The upcoming Charlie Sheen comedy series Anger Management was understandably a focal point at FX’s upfront event in New York today. Despite some of Sheen’s X-Rated off-screen antics and the racy content on most of FX’s other comedy series, including Louie and Wilfred, Anger Management will carry the family-friendly TV-14 rating, same as Sheen’s previous series, Two And A Half Men (as well as another hit series, The Big Bang Theory). That is understandable as the series is done under Debmar-Mercury’s 10-90 model whose success is tied to selling the show in broadcast syndication, something hard to do with the restrictive TV-MA rating.
FX didn’t show footage from Anger Management, which is a week into production (Sheen offered first-glimpse images on Today this morning), but showed a video with Sheen who told advertisers, “I’m rested, fit and hungry.” During the presentation, FX President Jon Landgraf also touted the network’s Cold War drama pilot The Americans starring Keri Russell. He noted that FX finished 2011 up in adults 18-49 while its main competitors USA, TNT and TBS were down. He projected one of the strongest upfront in years, up 11-12%.

Good luck, Charlie. Just stick to weed. Friday and Saturday nights. Namaste.
Anyone else find this a shame, i thought we were going to get a properly adult racy comedy with a good dramatic side, in the vein of the big c, wilfred, many other of tvs strong adult comedies. But i guess as with many ideas in tv its about the money.
Dosent mean it cant be very good just appears to be that little bit less likely now.
I agree Seb, Charlie come on you can do better than ‘family friendly’..come on !
Seb, clearly you have no idea about Debmar’s business model. They don’t do edgy or adult or mature.
Why did Charlie cut such a bad deal for actors on his show? His company is producing the show, right?
The show is under one of AFTRA’s low ball FX deals, that gives away actor’s residuals. The SAG-AFTRA merger will probably happen tomorrow. This would’ve made the crummy AFTRA FX deal obsolete, right?
SAG and AFTRA together were going to be one tough badass union. Isn’t that what the merger zombies were telling actors? Was AFTRA hedging its bet and still undercutting SAG and actors until the very end?
The merged union, SAG-AFTRA, will be a joke that will lower all boats. Watch out IATSE and Teamsters.
This aftra deal has to be better than the secret Sag TV Land deal that Ken Howard chaired in august and us members just found out about it now. No residuals at all for the first 12 runs. Poor struggling Danny Devito on Tvland. so nice ken could helP him out! Isn’t it grand our Sag Pres finally got a show? interesting…..they acted like we merged before a single vote was cast. shameful!!!!
Sheen did not look rested on the Today Show. He looked stressed. But I wish him luck on his new show.
Totally agree, the critics were really fast to label him as a ‘mess, druggie’ whatever eyeroll..whereas he was above all stressed and really nervous..these people really don’t know real moments when a person is high…
Who cares what it’s rating is because it’s Nielsen rating will be low. Charlie Sheen is not a comedic actor. He’s not funny. He never was. He was on a paint by numbers standard comedy that was easy for viewers to get find a sophomoric laugh. Replace him on that show and people STILL watch because it wasn’t a hit because of Sheen. The show made him and he’s not enough to make this show or any show a hit. Remember, Spin City was cancelled after Sheen joined.
This is a one season show. Then it’s cancelled.
wow Spin city had the ratings dropped BEFORE Sheen went on it and he did some comedies movies as the lead who were hit at the box-office..so maybe you don’t like Sheen but no need to tell lies..it is pathetic ‘JJ’
Please…TV14 leaves plenty of room for him to make a mess of himself and everything around him. I expect a train wreck… People will tune in for train wrecks at least once. Are Fiat sales up since he became their pitchman? I’ve not bothered to check…hmm…not bothered…that could be a problem…
yeah yeah whatever if Poppy thinks it is not worth it it means it is not worth it…lmaoooooooooooooooooooooo, Poppy one advice : go hide yourself behind a big rock, thanks.
This shit is gonna be great! Charlie will definetly kill it! I wish him the best of luck! Let’s see this get as popular as 2.5 Men!
