Hawaii’s Five-0 task force will be without its leader for a little while. Hawaii Five-0 star Alex O’Loughlin will miss at least one episode of the CBS crime drama for a stint in rehab. “Alex is taking a short break from Hawaii Five-0 to receive supervised treatment for prescription pain medication due to a recent shoulder injury,” a rep for the actor said in a statement.
The series, which is ahead of schedule, is now shooting episode 20, which coincidentally focuses heavily on Masi Oka’s character, and O’Loughlin didn’t have many scenes. After the episode wraps, the show will take a short break, after which production will proceed as planned, with Hawaii completing its 23-episode Season 2 order. “We respect and support Alex’s decision,” said CBS Studios, which produces the series. “Everyone at CBS Television Studios and Hawaii Five-0 wishes him well and we look forward to his return.”

Bravo to CBS for nipping this in the bud! looks like the Charlie ( winning ) debacle mainlined some
sence into them.
This isn’t TV CBS.
It will take longer than “one episode” to fix an addiction problem.
Ask Charlie Sheen.
“The series, which is ahead of schedule…”
Need that in bold?
Whoa there. Charlie had a long history of drug abuse and problems. There’s no comparison.
so this means he wont be in the final four episodes or what? or am I Just stupid and read that wrong?
Okay I somewhat read that wrong they say at least 1 episode and that they are on there episode 20 of 24 but it will take longer than one episode to kick an addiction wont it?
nooooooooo! ANOTHER ONE? he’s so good on the show
and looks so together- we wish him the best- go get well dude
then get back to us- we’ll miss the view of you
in and out of the water!
That would explain the “wooden” acting.
lol
Actually, it doesn’t. And I doubt sober living will do anything to improve it.
Oh, right. The old “prescription pain meds” for an “injury”. Probably no booze or narcotics involved. Just dry out for 30 days and he’ll be fine. Sure he will.
Alex is one of the best human beings ever made. He cares for people with his whole heart and I wish him a safe and swift recovery.
I know Alex personally
He is a great guy with and unbelivable work ethic
he hurt himself and tried to work through it but the pain was too much
He will get through this a be better and stronger then ever
McGarrett is a tough MF !!!!
Thanks for that
I suffer from chronic pain every day and am too scared to take my meds for this very reason. But I don’t do really long hours and strenuous filming almost every day cos then I wouldn’t have the choice. I really hope he has the support he needs to help him through this. His fans are behind him 100%!
too bad..glad he is smart enough to get help..dont ever take them, i had surgery and didnt fill the prescription …everyone is so afraid of a little pain… and i stopped watching this show right after it started…did not care for caan at all he ruined the show for me and it was too funny/haha instead of a good cop show..has it improved??
This is not surprise at all.
Anyone could see how this guy had changed in just 2 years.
Sad .
This proves money doesn’t buy happiness.
Happiness? Can you read? He INJURED himself probably on the show. He does most of his own stunts. His appearance has only shown a change in the last few weeks. What are you even watching? *eye roll*
He injured himself doing a stunt months ago. If people don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all. If there’s someone in Hollywood who doesn’t deserve to be bashed like this is Alex.
Not the least bit surprised, I’ve been saying for months now that he’s looked terrible. His face is sunken in and his skin even looks bad. I was starting to worry it was a meth addiction, though still don’t necessarily believe it’s pain killers.
I wish him the best of luck in his recovery. Many of his fans knew something was wrong…he has lost a tremendous amount of weight and looked very unhealthy. At least he’s making the right decision to get the help he needs! Love you Alex!
Great guy. Swift recovery.
Don’t be ignorant and know what you are talking about: http://www.drug-rehabs.com/chronic_pain_drug_dependency.htm
Alex has mentioned his shoulder issue months ago in interviews and the ones who follow his career know he is very concerned about his health. Comparing his problem with Charlie Sheen’s addictions is totally ridiculous.
He has been so skinny and drawn looking, not like his usual muscular healthy looking self, glad it’s being addressed. He’s a favorite since Moonlight.
I really like Alex O’Loughlin. I hope he gets it right and takes care of the problem. We all know how destructive this addiction can be and has been to so many. Be well, Alex.
I knew something was wrong, he’s just looked very thin and drawn the past weeks. I’m thankful that it’s not something like cancer and wish him a healthy recover through this. Hope to see him back on the show soon, once he’s healthy, because it’s one of my favorites.
I thought he looked different too. That explains it. Hope he gets better soon.
I hope whatever facility he’s in is a half rehab/half acting school.
You are a very sad person.
Wow…”uncalled for” doesn’t even cover this comment.
I hope you feel better after making that comment! Talk about mean-spirited!! Fortunately Alex has a ton of fans who love him and wish him well!!!
Kieran – check onlne….there may be a 12 step program for you. you know, how not to be a douche bag. Why bother reading or posting if you don’t like the guy? Move on, go find some fly’s and pull their wings off.
That’s mean… But that’s also so funny.
He’s acting a Navy Seal…jar head whatever…have you ever seen him in anything else? He is a fine actor!
Agreed. This has been going on for a while, it can’t be due to just a ‘recent’ injury. Hawaii doesn’t seem to have agreed with him for as much as he bitched about Hollywood and hightailed it out of here. I do hope he focuses on getting better regardless if it means skipping out on one or all of the remaining episodes in the season and, most importantly, that he has the right people around him to support his recovery since that is usually not the case.
What do you mean “Hawaii doesn’t seem to have agreed with him” ? He was injured on set. Shoulder injury. He does too many of his own stunts. He was tortured. TORTURED in North Korea where he was chained and shackled by his wrists which tore at his shoulders. Notice his appearance went downhill after ep 2.10. If he was already medicating for the old shoulder injury, I’m sure that filming that particular scene must have really upped his daily dose. Why does everyone have to always be so damn dramatic about things? He admits to over medicating and suddenly he’s a meth head…have you ever seen a meth head? He’s no meth head, nor is he doing heroin…do you even know the side effects of abusing these things? the tell tale signs of addiction to meth, coke, or heroin?….people just make crap up to stir the pot.
he’s human, he got hurt, he took painkillers, he took too many, and now depends on them, addiction can happen to ANYONE.
Tortured in North Korea? Wha?
There are some horrible comments on here from stupid people I agree but seriously? Tortured. No that was the character not Alex. Alex is an actor and he wasn’t tortured.
Of course, you are right. Same as Charlie S. He was going to go back to 2.5 man too ASAP. eye roll
But , the best luck to him.
too often:
“sex addiction” = alcoholism
“alcoholism” = prescription drug addiction
“prescription drug addiction” = cocaine/meth/heroin
You have no clue what you’re talking about!! If you knew anything about Alex and his career you would know that he has NEVER had any issues with drugs or alcohol. He’s hurt…he got hooked on painkillers…it happens to a lot of people…he’s doing the right thing in getting help.
Right… because it’s impossible for someone to hide an addiction from the people around them.
I hadn’t seen Hawaii Five-O since earlier this season so I tuned in a couple of weeks ago and within seconds was beyond shocked at Mr. O’Laughlin’s gaunt and sickly appearance, I pressed pause and told my roommate that Alex looked as if he had cancer or something. Relieved to hear it is a treatable issue, but I agree with others opinion that it’s a long haul to kick addiction and get healthy, so let him miss as many episodes as necessary. Reminds me of Matthew Perry’s serious Vicodin addiction and his worrisome gaunt appearance during Friends.
Like always, people will read something once about someone they don’t really care and talk like they know what’s going on.
This actor works really hard, does most of his stunts and never complains. The ones who have followed his career and read/seen his interviews know this. Obviously the shoulder injury he mentioned MONTHS ago (nice try cbs) got pretty serious and he just tried to deal with it because he is a professional. Chronic pain is serious business and while working for so many hours and with tight schedules like they do on TV it’s not a surprise that this could happen.
Wow, am I impressed. So many “doctors” acting like they know everything about everything. I hope the man is feeling better soon–and blows off the moronic comments from the judgmental crowd, who actually know nothing.
Not funny and not appropriate when someone is clearly suffering and trying to recover. He may not be the best actor out there but there’s only so much you can do with the awful writing on this show. Even Scott is limited with what he can do with what they give him and he’s incredibly talented. Most actors in Hollywood are mediocre to decent, some are good, very few are great. Who you shit on largely depends on mostly irrelevant factors.
Daniel Kim should go back to speaking broken Korean because he is a stiff. A real lox . Dude get an acting coach.
Scott is a scenery chewer who plays the same character in everything. Alex can become a different character if you watch him in Criminal Minds or The Shield he is totally different to his character in HFO.
I’m wishing for a speedy recovery for you Alex. Your fans love you very much !!!
