Mel Karmazin, the satellite radio company’s colorful CEO, is on a victory lap of sorts with his stock up more than 29% so far in 2012. He told CNBC’s Jim Cramer last night that he’s glad to see shock jock Howard Stern become a judge on NBC’s talent show America’s Got Talent: Calling Stern the “greatest radio performer of all time”, he adds that “the bigger Howard gets … the better it is for us.” (Cramer didn’t ask about Stern’s suit claiming Sirius XM owes him money for helping to boost subs.) Karmazin adds that he feels “very good about subscriber growth” despite the 11.9% price hike in January to $14.49 a month.

Mel seems adamant on pushing Howard into a “hold out”. Barring an out-of-court settlement, we’ re predicting Stern does NOT return from his traditional summer break.
I just called and cancelled my subscription to Sirius XM. Ever since Stern got the America’s Got Talent gig, he blathers on endlessly about it. Meanwhile, he’s taking more days off to focus on his new job, while the subscription rate has gone up. He’s off three days a week and spends the remaining two days to self-promote a crappy network show.
Not for this sucker.
Actually, he’s working the same amount of days as last year. The days off are spread out differently, that’s all. The contract with Sirius (determining the amount of days he’d work) was finalized at the end of ’10, far before the America’s Got Talent deal.
Sorry then, if you want to leave then fine. Me, i love Stern and his show and will be sticking to it.
The bigger Howard Stern gets, the less he needs SiriusXM.
If they truly loved Stern, SiriusXM would settle this lawsuit.
As Stern says, SiriusXM is one company in all its literature but becomes two companies when they explain why they don’t owe him money for stock options.
Three days a week is bettern than seven days a week of commercial radio or downloading podcasts.
If you love him Mel then pay him what he’s owed. Once Howard leaves sirius so do I.
Howard Stern isn’t worth what they’re paying him. His show is nowhere near as fun as it once was and it’s never on live in the first place.
I’ve been listening to Howard since he first came to WNBC in 1982. When he started on Siruis he was on about 25 hours a week for 2/3 of the year and 20 hours the remaining part (that’s not including his 12 weeks of vacation time. Now he averages 10 hours a week and takes more vacation weeks. I never watch any of those karaoke/lack of talent shows and endure his endless chatter about them. This week he complained that Sal and Richard hardly worked for the show. With so little air time the same could be said for Howard. The show has now become “The Best of Howard Stern” most of the time.
Can’t wait for Howard to be done with Sirius. I would love it if he just started his own internet delivered show.
I’m shocked that Mel is allowing this dispute to go on with Howard. They’ve been friends for years and Mel, I believe, has been a benefactor of Howard’s. However, despite their dispute Howard nevers mentions Mel or bad mouths him on the show. Obviously he maintains some respect for him.
I don’t get it…why fight with what you clearly agreed to? Sirius would have gone under if not for Stern…XM merged because of him, nothing else. I can’t wait till the contract expires and they lose 80% of their subscribers…better get rid of the stock while he’s there boys, it’ll be a worthless company when he leaves….I’m certainly not alone in stating that when he goes so do I……
