British actor Hugh Dancy is set as one of the two leads in Hannibal, NBC’s 13-episode series from Gaumont International Television, written and executive produced by Bryan Fuller and executive produced by Martha DeLaurentiis. The project is described as a contemporary thriller featuring the classic characters from Thomas Harris’ novel Red Dragon – FBI agent Will Graham (Dancy) and his mentor Dr. Hannibal Lecter — who are re-introduced at the beginning of their budding relationship. The role of Will Graham was played by Ed Norton in the 2002 movie adaptation, in which Anthony Hopkins reprised his Oscar-winning role as twisted series killer Hannibal Lecter. Dancy, an Emmy nominee for HBO’s Elizabeth I, recently recurred on the Showtime comedy series The Big C.

William Peterson originated the role of Will Graham in Michael Mann’s Manhunter. He IS Will Graham.
Agreed…
“…series killer…”? Freudian slip?
Agreed. And let’s not forgot Brian Cox; I always preferred his subdued-yet-sinister take on Hannibal to Tony Hopkins’ more operatic performance.
the first thing i saw when i saw the title was that he was portraying hannibal, and i thought that was actually good casting, but then i read the article and saw that he is actually playing will graham and i thought that was a bland role for such a talented actor, nevertheless im sure he will bring some energy to it and im sure this series will be at the very least somewhat interesting
Bland? Are you serious? He was the best character in the book! Always thought Thomas Harris made a mistake not putting in Hannibal. I never thought that Lector was finshed torturing the guy that caught him and if there was one person who could track down Hannibal it’s Graham.
Agreed That Peterson is Will Graham. Edward Norton was a cardboard cutout of the character. Be interesting to see how this goes.
Yeah he even looks a bit like a young Anthony Hopkins! He should play Hannibal Lecter!
Love everything Bryan Fuller does. This is in good hands.
gela, you are so right. Bryan Fuller created two of some of my favorite shows: ” Wonderfalls ” & ” Pushing Daisies. “
Ugh! Hannibal Lector was not Will Graham’s mentor. Far from it. But that would make an interesting twist to this show as they could become buddies in a Two and a Half Men way.
Wow they’re already messing this one up–I wonder if Brett Ratner is available to direct?
UGH- why ? Can’t people write anything new anymore? I like Dancy , but will wait for him to do something worth watching. At this point Hannibal has been done to death.
I have always had a crush on Hugh Dancy ever since ” Ella Enchanted . ” What a Hottie !
Why is NBC doing a series about a cannibal serial killer when they KNOW they can’t show the kind of ultra-violence and grossness that the topic requires and the audience expects, going way beyond what you’d see on CSI or any of the gross-out forensics shows.
This is a replay of the mistake they made with The Playboy Club, where they couldn’t actually show sex. If the FCC is bound to spoil the party, then choose a premise that they can’t spoil.
