EXCLUSIVE: CBS‘ untitled Ralph Lamb drama pilot has added another prominent member to its all-star cast. Terra Nova star Jason O’Mara has been tapped to co-star in the project, joining Dennis Quaid, Michael Chiklis and Carrie-Anne Moss. For O’Mara, the pilot is in second position to prehistoric drama Terra Nova, which is still alive as talks between series producer 20th Century Fox TV and Netflix about a second season continue. O’Mara has fielded multiple pilot offers since Fox cancelled Terra Nova two weeks ago. Set in the 1960s, the untitled Ralph Lamb project, written by Goodfellas writer Nicholas Pileggi and Greg Walker and directed by James Mangold, chronicles the true story of Ralph Lamb (Quaid) – rodeo cowboy turned longtime Sheriff of Las Vegas – and Johnny Savino (Chiklis), a Chicago mob fixer whose entrepreneurial vision for transforming Las Vegas collides with the law-and-order mandate of Sheriff Lamb. O’Mara will play Ralph Lamb’s younger brother Frank, the diplomat in the family.
Also cast in the pilot in guest-starring roles are
Michael Reilly Burke, Michael O’Neill and James Russo. Burke will play A.D.A. Katherine O’Connel’s (Moss) boss, D.A. Reynolds, an alpha prosecutor with a burning ambition for power. O’Neill will play Vegas Mayor Bennett, a man with a vision. He has been bucking the state’s Governor, who wants to move Vegas’s power and money up north to Reno. Russo will play Big Tuna, an old-world gangster who runs Vegas for his Chicago bosses. The first two roles were originally listed as regular but have been scaled back as guest-starring/recurring partly because of the big names the pilot was able to land for the four main leads. It is likely that at least some of the three roles will be upgraded to regular if the pilot goes to series. Pileggi, Mangold, Walker, Cathy Konrad and Arthur Sarkissian are executive producing the CBS TV Studios-produced Ralph Lamb, with Quaid and Chiklis co-executive producing. O’Mara is with UTA and the JTWAMM law firm. Burke, who recurs on ABC’s Revenge, is with Domain and Levine/Okwu/Erickson. Ralph Lamb is the second high-profile pilot to sign an actor from Terra Nova in second position, along with NBC’s Matthew Perry-starring comedy Go On, which cast Allison Miller. For O’Mara, this would mark the third consecutive series project set in the past, following the ABC 1970s drama Life On Mars and Fox’s Terra Nova.

This is the first job Jason O’Mara does after Terra Nova ? Why wouldn’t he try for a film career now? This is a great Pilot but to play third fiddle to Dennis Quaid and Michael Chiklis?
agreed he is a great actor to playing a supporter
How many turds is this guy going to make before they give up on him?
Nobody knows O’Mara… I’d say stick to TV.
Smart of him to attach himself to bigger names. He played a huge part in the downfall of both life on mars and terra nova. He’s a blank and horribly appealing lead but at least he won’t be given a responsibility in this that he can’t handle.
I’d watch this guy in anything. Sounds like a great show with a great cast of actors. I’m in.
He is a great actor. I’m excited for this. Jason deserves a hit, he’s been great in everything he’s done.
I think you answered your own question. The opportunity to act in a great ensemble like this comes along rarely for actors. Chikliss is a genius, Quaid is a big get for television, and omara just needs the right vehicle. This is the best cast of any pilot this year, no question.
I love Jason O’Mara. This is a pilot he’s signed up with. Doesn’t mean he won’t act in other things. Anyway, he’d be in good company in this one.
Such a great news! Jason deserves it and I’m sure that it would be a great show. And his work would be amazing like always. He’s talented, smart, funny and an incredible actor. Can’t wait to see it!
P.S. And it would be so awesome too see Dennis Quaid. I’m a fan of him since The Parent trap.
I’m still routing for Terra Nova but Jason O’Mara would be great in anything he does. It was not necessarily his fault that the other series he did got cancelled. He also got great reviews in “one for the Money” he did recently. Movies, TV he can do both. Would watch him in anything.
I like Jason as an actor and from what I hear he is a great guy. He’s been on some shows that didn’t work out, but he was not the problem. This sounds interesting. I will tune in.
I think it’s only fair to mention that the casting director for this project is, Sheila Jaffe, who I think is really one of the best in the business (Soprono’s, Entourage, The Fighter) It’s one thing to put this kind of cast together for an HBO or Showtime series, but for network TV and CBS?
The setup reminds me of Crime Story from the 80s with Dennis Farina. The first season was in Chicago, but then moved to Las Vegas, but the show was set in the 60s.
All great actors, hopefully the writing works.
Excited to hear about this show and what an awesome cast! Jason has been great in several TV shows that were cancelled way before their time. Putting Jason in a more ‘main stream’ is sure to win him many more fans than he already has!
Sheila Jaffe and Gail Goldberg cast this pilot. They did an incredible job. Both should be commended for putting together such a great cast for a non-cable show this is an outstanding cast
Terrible choice! O’Mara is a bad actor. He will ruin this show.

He did great in terra nova so sad to see it go but him playing a supporting role he is too good for that no matter what others think he is a great actor!!!!!!
If his problem is “blandness” (personally I think he’s okay), then CBS is the right place for him.
I have always loved Dennis Quaid, love Jason O’Mara, they both will be great in this and I will watch both in everything. Been watching Dennis Quaid from way back. I Love Terra Nova and am sad it got cancelled.
