UPDATED: Jennifer Beals and Paula Marshall are set to co-star opposite John Corbett in the CBS drama pilot Widow Detective, written by David Hubbard and produced by CSI maven Carol Mendelsohn. The CBS TV Studios project, directed by Davis Guggenheim, centers on Denny Brennan (Corbett), a decorated police detective who, after losing three partners in the line of duty, becomes surrogate husband, lover and father to their families. Beals and Marshall will play two of the widows. Beals will play Lainey, the sexy, wry-humored owner of a San Fernando valley hair salon whose LAPD detective husband was partnered with Denny and died on the job. Married again but about to be amicably divorced, Lainey knows Denny the best out of all the wives, and has the best shot at a real relationship with him. The L Word and The Chicago Code alumna Beals, repped by APA and Greenlight Management, recently did an arc on ABC’s Castle. Marshall will play Jill, a restaurateur and the mother of three daughters who has accepted Denny’s willing participation in her family with relief, gratitude and love (and occasionally annoyance). This marks Marshall’s return to CBS where she starred on the comedy Gary Unmarried.

Love her. Should have been nominated for an Emmy for her fantastic work during 2nd season of “The L Word”. Great get for CBS!
Jennifer Beals is one of my favorite actors and I love her in anything she does acting or ortherwise.
I love her so much…
She was freakin fantastic on castle
Is CBS capable of creating a drama that isn’t cop related?
Your question should be…
Is CBS actually ever going to produce higher quality crime procedural that’s smart and not formulaic?
I understand that why bigger name actors would go CBS for stability. Just a month ago I read interview with Jennifer Beals. That the next time she did TV it would have to have meaning and actually be fun. So I assume the Script must of been good.
Is CBS actually ever going to produce higher quality crime procedural that’s smart and not formulaic? Excellent question.
The article makes it sound as if the sex lives will be the main focus. That insults me. Truly angers me. The murder of a loved one, a law enforcement officer no less, should not be trivialized like that. It sounds as if the main character was one lousy partner. Three partners killed? Then he moves in on the wives? What the heck? With a partner like that who needs criminals, enemies? What about the children/families? They seem forgotten in this. Can’t the premise be about helping the family to cope, helping with the house, chores, kids, be someone they can talk to, share their thoughts, memories, deal with every day life?
As a partner, he should be making sure the killer is caught and not let it turn into a cold case. You have CSI and NCIS all rolled up into one. The sex part is not needed.
Do you have any idea what it is like to go through that kind of trial? That kind of nightare? It takes an eternity, sitting on that stand, in front of the killer, in front of the jury and audience, the press. I do know what it is like. I know the pain, I know the hate. I never really did know hate until my dad was shot and killed in the line of duty. I now know true pain and true hate. Thru and thru. So do my kids.
Focus on the capture, the trial, the heart of it. I really like these actresses and Mr. Corbett. Seeing Jennifer in a role like that? All of them? To me, it’s offensive. I won’t be the only offended and hurt by this. Dare to keep the sex out of it. Go for the heart!! My dad is gone, ripped away from his family, ripped away from his wife!! Happy Easter.. not for us… we were at the mortuary, dad was lying on a gurney draped by a sheet, cold, still, quiet, DEAD. Forever!!
PLEASE!!! Keep the storyline honest and keep it respectful. Respectful to all the fallen officers out there and the families who miss them terribly. Who hurt, who grieve, but still have to go on… Why have a show make doing just that even harder?
It shows far more creativity and guts to play it without the sex.
PLEASE.
Thank you CBS !
I love love love Jennifer Beals! She is soooo beautiful and soooo talented! Can’t wait to watch the series.
Love her so much she is a very good actress
A brainless crime procedural on CBS? How delightfully fresh and unexpected.
She deserved an Emmy for the LWord, stunning on the Book of Eli ,Lie to me and Castle, the Chicago Code..
Thank you CBS too,
are they playing sisters?
Every show or movie Paula Marshall has done has bombed so even if this gets picked up, it won’t be around for long which is a shame for Jennifer Beals who deserves a good show.
This is the best news I’ve gotten all day. It doesn’t make up for the Chicago Code getting axed by Fox, but at least it brings the very talented Jennifer Beals back to my tv screen. Can’t wait to watch!
I would just like to know when it is going to be aired.
Paula Marshall is one of the most underrated actresses out there
Can’t wait…She’s one of my favorite actresses..I love anything she’s starring in…
Good for Jennifer. I can’t wait.
Very excited to hear that Jennifer is coming back in another series but its a another cop series, why not a different approach for Jennifer.I think she would do very well in playing a Lawyer or a Judge. She is such a good actress and derseves the best.
jennifer beals is the hottest 50 year old girl on tv.
Looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove Paula personally and professionally!! a consummate pro who deserves a long run.. always delivers, whether comedy or drama.
Love Jennifer she is great in whatever she does.
I just hated when the axed The Chicago Code.
has paula marshall ever starred in a show that has lasted longer than one season?
For all the dumb haters out there. Why don’t you ask yourself, HOW DOES PAULA KEEP GETTING SHOW AFTER SHOW FOR 20+ YEARS IF SHE DIDN’T HAVE TALENT? Survey says, BECAUSE SHE HAS COMEDIC AND DRAMTIC TALENT, not to mention she looks as good now as she did in her 20′s.
Sounds like a variation on 1991 movie starring Michael Keaton called “One Good Cop.”
Yes Jennifer Beals my favorite actress looooove her so much.
I love me some Paula Marshall. Such a fantastic actress both comedically and dramatically! So Happy for her!!
