EXCLUSIVE: After an extensive search, the last pilot lead this season has been cast. Zachary Abel (Make It Or Brake It) has landed the lead role in the CW’s Mark Schwahn/J.J. Abrams drama pilot Shelter. Also cast in the Warner Bros TV-produced pilot is Malese Jow (The Vampire Diaries). Shelter is set at historic New England summer resort Shelter Bay where the new and returning staff attend to the practical, emotional and often comical needs of the guests while navigating 
friendships, rivalries and romances of their own. Abel, repped by APA and Caliber Media, will play the hopelessly romantic Mitchell Taylor, a 23-year-old former local baseball hero who now works the concierge desk at the Shelter Bay Inn. Jow, repped by Sweeney Entertainment and Todd Rubenstein, will play Morgan, Shelter Bay’s resident party girl.

Aw, I’m so happy for Malese. She was awesome on the Vampire Diaries. That’s the third (?!) TVD actor with a CW show lead. The CW does love to recycle.
The “extensive search” part is a bit of reach. Very few actors were brought in to audition for this project.
excellent castings for both leads. Zach was great on Make It or Break It and Malese was wonderful on the Vampire Diaries. Here’s hoping it’s picked up.
Abel had a great guest run on Awkward too. Will be really interesting to see this show. Should be an entertaining show.

Ehhhh… Abel is too Backstreet Boys for my taste, looks like a creepy Nick Carter. Malese Jow is stunning though. Best of luck to them both.

Would it hurt these productions to cast locally? I understand the productions are coming from the major markets and providing tons of work to crew, extras, smaller roles, and even agents. For once, I would love to see a local get a major role. I have seen a handful, but there are plenty of talented indiviuals. They will cast all the way down to a recurring role and give the one liners to the locals. Even Tyler Perry, does it. He needs to remember who got him in the position he’s in now..his fellow Atliens.
There sure better be some “twisty” thing to this plot, because, as a poster above mentioned, this sounds pretty dull right now, especially from two great minds. It needs more “Lost” and FINAL season of “One Tree Hill”….not season 6, 7 or 8 of OTH. “Revenge” has set the bar very, very high for primetime soaps, and anything less than non-stop shocking action is gonna be turned off by most viewers. Take heed, and don’t be boring.
