EXCLUSIVE: The CW‘s Grey’s Anatomy-esque medical drama pilot First Cut got its McDreamy in former Smallville co-star and CW heartthrob Justin Hartley. Written by Jennie Snyder Urman and produced by CBS TV Studios, First Cut revolves around a newly minted female doctor working at a hospital. Hartley will play Will, a handsome and flirty surgical intern, a golden boy that all girls want to date and all guys want to hang out with. Hartley has a strong following from his role as the Green Arrow on Smallville, and he was a fans’ choice to reprise his role in the CW’s pilot Arrow, a modern retelling of the story of DC Comics character Green Arrow. The part ultimately went to Stephen Amell, and now Hartley is getting a CW pilot lead of his own.

Thrilled for Justin, who was the best thing about Smallville’s later seasons. But that’s the third medical drama I’m going to have to watch (assuming its picked up) just because I like the actors being cast. Couldn’t he, Jason Ritter and Jamie Bamber all have joined the same one and saved me the trouble?
Yeah, but will his character get beat up often on this new show? Cause Hartley always got beat up on Smallville. It was kind of hilarious actually.
You’ve got to stop calling Arrow “a modern retelling of the story of DC Comics character Green Arrow”.Green Arrow itself is a modern story, so how can this be a modern retelling?Just call it an adaptation.
Thank you. Green Arrow is a long established but constantly updated contemporary story, as are Batman or Superman, for example. Sherlock now that’s a good example of a modern retelling of the orginal.
The guy was good on Smallville and had what it takes to carry a show. Good for him.

Nice! I did enjoy him on Smallville, and I think he helped add something to those later seasons. Minus the “Batman voice” but that wasn’t his fault
I really liked him on Smallville. This does not sound like the kind of show I’d normally watch, but I might have to give it a chance for him.

I loved Justin as Green Arrow. I am so glad he’s got another role, I will definitely watch it just to see him. Hopefully, CW is smart enough to pick it up for a full season. I am actually kind of glad Justin will be in a role where he won’t be getting beat up and kidnapped! I didn’t like seeing him get hurt! If he’s playing a “ladies man” maybe us fans will still get to see some great shirtless scenes again:-)Those were great.
