Matt Weiner wrote and will make his feature directing debut on Gilbert Films’ You Are Here, a road-trip movie starring Owen Wilson and Zach Galifianakis that begins shooting in May in North Carolina. Amy Poehler is in negotiations to co-star. Weiner, who has directed several episodes of his Emmy-winning Mad Men, will fit this in between seasons of the AMC drama, which returned Sunday after a long absence to record ratings for its Season 5 premiere. “This movie has been my passion for eight years and to see it come together with Owen and Zach and Amy is a dream come true,” Weiner said in a release announcing the film. “I can’t wait to get started because the movie is about everything I care about and I’m tired of reading it out loud to my friends.” In You Are Here, a local weatherman and freewheeling bachelor (Wilson) and bi-polar man-child Ben (Galifianakis) are childhood best friends who embark on a road trip home after Ben discovers his estranged father has passed away. Once there, Ben learns his eccentric father had big plans for him and he’s inherited a whole lot more than his father’s money. As Ben struggles with his new responsibilities, his friendship with Steve is tested by the complications of his inheritance, his sister’s ambition, and Steve’s desire to be with his father’s beautiful young widow. Poehler will play the sister. Gary Gilbert, Scott Hornbacher, and Jordan Horowitz are producing. Lionsgate is handling international sales.

He’s a talented guy but that “logline” is brutal
Are there any American films that AREN’T about man-children?
Such a mediocre script
Galifianakis is playing a man-child? Quite a stretch for him *eye roll*
Oh, stop the snarking, this time he’s going to be a *beardless* man child. Dude has range.
Galifianakis isn’t being at all routed in the same direction at all. Nope.
You think that logline is bad, you should have seen the logline for Mad Men
What was the logline for Mad Men!? I’ve been trying to find it everywhere on the net and i can’t find anything.. If you know what it was roughly you’d be a big help!
Good luck to Lionsgate with those foreign sales. They’ll need it for this navel-gazing tripe.
From your commenter alias, I’m guessing you haven’t read it. Therefore, I’ll take your “navel-gazing tripe” critique for what it probably is: speculative bullpucky.
I wonder if this side project will affect the quality of Mad Men’s sixth season. Isn’t the bulk of the new writing and story development usually going on in the summer?
“quality of Mad Men’s sixth season” You have to be joking, what quality? They are already phoning it in.
As long as it’s better than wacky inheritance comedies like BREWSTER’S MILLIONS or LARGER THAN LIFE.
This sounds like the perfect movie for people who enjoyed “Rain Man”, but wanted the characters to be more annoying.
Hopefully it will be as hilarious as “Mad Men” is.
Zou bisou bisou.
Can you say: FLOP!!! Weiner should stay in his lane and stick to classy, engaging, thinking man’s material.
STAY IN YOUR LANE!!!
“classy, engaging, thinking man’s material.” LOL
He should be on the exit ramp.
Criminy. For all you kiddies out there, this is why you should not bother seeking work in Hollywood. Here’s someone who has hit it out the park in four brilliantly entertaining seasons of Mad Men, and now that he wants to do something different (gee, I can’t imagine why someone trapped in a studio for four years would want to shoot something fun and on the road) he gets skewered. Give the man the benefit of the doubt. If it stinks, fine, flame him, but he deserves at least a modicum of respect.
Preach.
Have you read the script?
LOL Rachel Mcadams was going to be in this movie, but she declined it, he putted instead Amy Poehler, who acted as the mother of Regina George(Rachel Mcadams)back in 2004 on Mean Girls xD
Deadline commenters must be the most miserable people on Earth. For people who follow the entertainment industry, you all sure hate everything it creates.
Due Date 2
Hey parts of the movie are being filmed in my back yard–its cool–everyone in the production unit is very nice-so many people doing their movie thing–just a neat think to watch–cant wait to see the movie– I want the job the lady has spraying sunscreen on everyone-lol
The crew we had was awesome, only a few bad apples. The lady spraying sunscreen on everyone was our set medic and took really good care of everyone making sure that everyone stayed cool and hydrated and well.
I’m excited to see the movie I’ve been watching them build the set on Murphy st. In Madison,Nc…I think they start filming tomorrow I sure Hope they let me stroll by and betta sneak peek LOL !!! Plus I can’t wait to see my hometown be part of this movie!!
First it was ‘Last of the Mohicans’, then ‘The Hunger Games’, plus a few documentaries and a variety of B movies, now this…
You Are Here.
The road trip scenes are being filming in North Carolina, Rockingham, Forsyth and Yadkin counties have been confirmed.
North Carolina = Hollywood EAST.
We have enjoyed watching Owen, Zach, and Amy this week in Madison, NC. The cast and crew have all been wonderful about letting us watch, take pictures and see how much work goes into making movies. Thanks to all who have been a part of this production. Can’t wait to see the entire movie.
The guy wrote episodes of Sopranos and Mad Men. I think if he wants to make a comedy, he earned the right to make it !
