I’ve learned that Brothers & Sisters alum Matthew Rhys has landed the male lead opposite Keri Russell in FX‘s period drama pilot The Americans. Created/executive by Joe Weisberg, executive produced by Graham Yost and directed by Gavin O’Connor, the project centers on two KGB spies posing as Americans in suburban Washington, DC in the early 1980s. The arranged marriage of Phillip Jennings (Rhys) and Elizabeth Jennings (Russell) grows more passionate and genuine by the day but is constantly tested by the escalation of the Cold War and the intimate, dangerous and darkly funny relationships they must maintain with a network of spies and informants under their control. The Americans is produced by Fox TV Studios and FX Prods. DreamWorks TV’s Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey are also executive producing. Reps for FX could not be reached for comment Friday night. Brit Rhys is with WME, Management 360 and UK’s United Agents.

Such a wonderful actor. Really happy for him … can’t wait to see it. Great guy!
Finally a legit actor.
Great actor. And the way he effortlessly disguises his thick great Irish accent with a american one is impressive. Can handle comedy and drama. Needs to do movies as well.
Ahem, he’s welsh.
This sounds like it could go interesting places. If it’s done well.
I wanted to beat “Kevin” with a 2×4 every time he was on the screen on B&S – what an insufferable, whiny character. Let’s hope Matthew can rise above the material this go-round.
He’s Welsh, not Irish.
I guess his accent isn’t very “great” if you can’t even tell where it’s from lol.
It’s America. They even don’t know there’s a difference.
Just don’t ever call someone from Wales (especially Cardiff) an Irishman, and vice versa. Like night and day.
Matthew is NOT IRISH!!!! He’s Welsh and a Welsh speaker too like myself. I really hate it when Americans assume any british person who doesnt sound English is Irish. Grrrrrrrrrrrr
I’m so glad to see Matthew Rhys land another show. I loved him on B&S. He’s a great actor in comedy and drama. I have seen him in a couple other movies from the UK and he handled the roles very well. He is also very handsome and those blue eyes are great.
He’s Welsh, not Irish. Although he can do an excellent Irish accent aswell, lol.
