MTV has picked up four new unscripted series and a special. Docu-drama The Heights appears to be a take on MTV’s staples Real World and The Hills. It is a primetime docu-drama about a group of best friends living, working and playing in the New York neighborhood of Washington Heights. Epic Fail is a half-hour primetime panel show that recreates viewers’ most cringe-worthy moments with re-enactments, text messages, status updates and photos. Totally Clueless is a hidden camera game show where people win cash for figuring out they are on TV. It’s targeted for weekday afternoons. MTV’s This Is How I Made It, which will air Saturday mornings, features celebrities dishing out their recipes for success. Primetime special Dev follows the Like a G6 singer as she pursues her career and the demands of young motherhood.

epic fail should be the name of that list of new shows and not simply one of them!
Couldn’t have said it better…this is pathetic?…. Fortunately, these executives will be forced to look for another job and someone with talent will hopefully come in. They should be embarrassed.
I don’t understand…what do you guys think would be a successful pick-up, that isn’t an “epic fail”. I’m sure you would have said the same thing about Jersey Shore. At least “This is How I Made It” sounds like a positive show to inspire kids.
How about paying teens to actually do something, anything good. Hell, put a camera in the grocery store aisle and pay them for helping the old lady actor reach the top shelf.
Since sex, fame, & money seem to be the only things that really drive young people, maybe you should pay them to change their ways(?)
It’s a ‘fail’ because MTV has been banking on scripted series. Networks air disposable entertainment (“Jersey Shore”) because it makes money, but they always prefer to air quality programs that make money. MTV has been trying to raise the IQ of its audience with no success, so they appear to be lowering their own bar with this new slate of reality shows. It’s also a vote of no confidence in David Janollari.
I love the idea that you think that any network is going to wake up one day and realize that they employ untalented executives. Then fire them and then go out and hire ‘someone with talent’. What planet do you live on?
I got a chance to watch the epic fail pilot and it’s actually pretty funny. I wasn’t expecting to like it, but it’s got a lot of surprising laughs. ‘the heights’ looks like it’ll be awful though, and it’ll probably be a hit. rip music videos.
Clearly you guys are old. Mtv is for younger people and that’s what’s funny. Mtv knows its demo. Chill.
LOL, no they don’t. They are constantly taken by surprise by their hits because they throw a bunch of cheap shit out there and some of it is successful and the vast majority bombs. It’s a fine business model given the ROI but let’s not pretend they know what young people want. YOUNG PEOPLE don’t know what they want, how could execs?
You sound like just a JOY to be around.
