EXCLUSIVE: Novelist Kristin Hannah has made screen deals for two of her novels. 1492 Films has acquired Home Front, with Chris Columbus attached to direct, and produce with his 1492 cohorts Michael Barnathan and Mark Radcliffe. The book, a bestseller for the sixth consecutive week, is a dramatic exploration of the toll war takes on an ordinary American family. This story is told from the vantage point of a woman who, in addition to being a wife and mother, is a Blackhawk pilot in the National Guard who is called to serve a tour of duty in Iraq. 1492 most recently produced the Oscar-nominated The Help, after acquiring the Kathryn Stockett novel long before it became a publishing phenomenon among female readers. The book was published by St. Martin’s Press.
“I was blown away by this book, I simply could not put it down,” Columbus said. “It told the story about the cost of war from a completely unique perspective: what happens when a wife and mother is called into action and how her family adjusts to life without her…and to a changed life upon her return. Home Front not only portrays the great sacrifices our military makes for us, but depicts so powerfully the hidden sacrifices their families make as well.”
At the same time, Hannah’s novel The Things We Do For Love is being developed by SPB Productions as a possible starring vehicle for Abigail Breslin. Novel is about a destitute and pregnant seventeen year old must make an impossible choice between love and honor. Both of the deals were made by CAA, in conjunction with Andrea Cirillo of the Jane Rotrosen Agency.

Abigail Breslin is already extraordinarily skilled in her craft at such a young age.
She is an actress who gets my attention whenever I see her associated with a project.
Abigail Breslin is going to be around for as long as she wants to be, and as long as she chooses well.
Can’t wait…loved Home Front. Also loved The Help. Hope you do justice to the book it was great.
Absolutely LOVE Kristin Hannah!! Can’t wait for the movie, plus hopefully more to come!! I could not put down Home Front & I am actually reading The Things We Do For Love right now!
This is awesome news!!!!
Why do the covers of these books look like stills from a “Summer’s Eve” commercial?
So utterly elated that Home Front and TTWDFL are going to be seen on the big screen! HF is so relevant and current; & brings to light a (delicate) topic so incredibly significant to our soldiers & military families. The movie BETTER bring justice to my favorite author’s equisite talent for writing. I CANNOT WAIT! Also, TTWDFL was a story so touching at every turn of the page. Abigal Breslin would be perfect in this role! Can’t wait to see all the actors/actresses in both films! I’m so very impressed by Kristin Hannah…her work, her gift…her. I feel extremely proud to call myself a fan! Congrats KH! xoxo Leela
So looking forward to both of these films!
This is such great news. Kristin Hannah is amazingly talented, and my wife and I cannot wait to see these films and hopefully many more to come.
This is the best news! I have been a very proud fan of Kristin from her very first book. As a reader you think (can she get any better) and the next book comes out and it blows you away! I hope they do her books justice for that is what they deserve! Her WINTER GARDEN book would also make a great movie.
Thanks Chris Columbs and SPB Production for making this one of the best days for Kristin and her devoted fans.
An amazing book about a woman’s struggle. So current and honest and real. Hollywood needs to make a movie like this, with major stars. We need intimate films with universal and timely struggles about women and for everyone. Hannah’s books are made for the big screen. I’ve read and adored every one of them.
Great news!!! I loved “Home Front” . Hope they so justice to the book like they did “The Help”. I agree that ” Winter Garden” would also make a great movie. Congrats to all!
