Three months after her BFF Gayle King started on CBS This Morning, Oprah Winfrey will make an appearance on the revamped morning program. She will sit down with King and her co-hosts Charlie Rose and Erica Hill on Monday. Topics listed by CBS include the latest developments at OWN and life after her daytime talk show. Because of the close ties between Winfrey and King, speculation about a Winfrey visit to CBS This Morning started at the very launch of the show. At the show’s TCA session in January, executive producer Chris Licht confirmed that the plan was to get the former talk-show queen as a guest. Added King, “Yes, “We’re not stoopid with two o’s. We will have Oprah on when it makes sense to have her on.”

Guess she decided that visiting a network that has actual viewers was a good idea.
Gayle King will interview (Ill bet) and, man, will they soft pedal this one.
Yes, they could choose to soft pedal the interview, but it would do both Winfrey and King a disservice to approach it that way. This is a perfect opportunity for Winfrey to answer the tough questions without being blindsided by the tough questions. The time for spin is over.
I read that Gayle and Charlie will speak to Oprah. Both will lose credibility if Oprah isn’t asked tough questions about OWN since it’s doubtful Oprah will grant a lot of interviews.
I was a regular Today Show viewer but have since switched to CBS This Morning and it’s a very good program. Gayle, Charlie and Erica make a great team and I like the show’s correspondents too. Too bad it’s a distant 3rd in the ratings. If Oprah’s appearance doesn’t significantly boost the show’s audience that day, I really don’t know what will make more people watch.
The Early show must be in trouble to need O this early. The public has forgot about O, she’s old news and old hash. CBS will hand Erica Hill’s hour to Gayle in fall. Why Erica tries to hypnotize the audience with her eyes.
How is anyone with enough clout to launch their own network ever old news and old hash? Some of you people (and yes, I said “you people”) have a lot of nerve — on a largely anonymous comment threat.
Let’s see what you say should to Oprah’s FACE should you ever actually meet her.
I agree with you, JS. The new format is great and the co-anchors have settled into a comfortable rhythm. I was concerned after the first week, because the personalities didn’t seem to be meshing, and the transition between segments seemed sluggish, but that is no longer the case. They’ve worked the kinks out, and have a quality show now.
Glad to hear Rose will be a part of the Winfrey interview. When promoting the segment, it will help convey the premise that the interview isn’t going to be just a chat between old friends, Gayle and Oprah.
Concerning the ratings, this was always going to be a marathon and not a sprint, but now that the new format is in place, they’ve got to market it across multiple platforms. Both CBS and Winfrey need a great interview on Monday…the kind of news segment that becomes the news the next day, and talking about the launch of the Tony Robbins show ain’t it.
CBS needs the press for their new morning show and Winfrey needs to get people saying something about her other than, “OWN is failing.” I hope they pull it off. I know I’ll be watching.
