EXCLUSIVE: The River‘s Paul Blackthorne has been tapped for a co-starring role in the CW drama pilot Arrow, a modern retelling of the story of DC Comics character Green Arrow. It stars Stephen Amell as the vigilante superhero who fights crime using archery, martial arts and technology under his secret identity as Oliver Queen, a wealthy playboy and billionaire industrialist-turned-outspoken politician in Star City. Blackthorne, repped by SDB Partners, Seven Summits & Optimism Entertainment, will play Det. Quentin Lance, the father of Oliver’s love interest Laurel (Katie Cassidy), a gruff, determined city detective who believes true justice can only come from law and order. He’s charged with bringing the vigilante known as The Arrow to justice. Because of his casting being in second position to ABC’s The River, Blackthorne is formally billed as a guest star in the Arrow pilot.
Also tapped as a guest star (and probably recurring) in Arrow is Law & Order: Criminal Intent alum Jamey Sheridan, who will play Robert Queen, Oliver’s father. Susanna Thompson plays Oliver’s mother, Moira Queen. David Nutter is directing the pilot, written/executive produced by Andrew Kreisberg, Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim. Blackthorne is the first actor from ABC’s midseason drama The River to book a pilot. The horror drama, which premiered last month, has had rough sledding connecting with viewers and its odds for returning next season are slim. Sheridan has been recurring on Showtime’s Homeland.

Paul Blackthorne is amazing, very happy to see he’s getting more work. Loved him in “24″ and “The Dresden Files.”
Paul Blackthorne is talented & unbelievably sexy. Tom Hardy has the best pair of lips since Mr. Blackthorne.
Paul Blackthorne is the best, I am very happy he is getting more jobs. He is Gorgeous.
Too bad Stephen Amell is such a lousy actor…
Oh I liked Jamey Sheridan’s Deakins in ‘Law & Order: Criminal Intent’, good choice! Has anyone else heard the rumors of NBC renewing ‘Law & Order: CI’ an 11th season? At this rate NBC could use a hit, ‘Awake’ sadly didn’t wake up people on NBC like they thought.
Good to see Jamey back. Great actor, great guy.
Onto bigger, and thankfully better, projects.
Love Jamey Sheridan. Have for years. This is a happy thing.
How is it a modern retelling of the Green Arrow when the Green Arrow comic is (and has been, for the most part) set in modern times?
In regards to “THE RIVER” it was just terrible. And this was the project Paul Lee was so high on? I don’t think sadly he has a clue. He also loved “Charlie’s Angels”and “Pan Am”
He probably loved “Work It as well.
Hmmmm. This is a pretty drastic retelling, considering that in the comics, Dinah Laurel Lance’s father is long dead, as is Oliver Queen’s dad. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.
The River was a great pilot script… I’m just not sure what happened after that. New management is in order.
I’m glad Paul is working with Brian Espinosa of Optimism Entertainment. Great guy , who works very hard for you. Honest and trustworthy. Only has the best for his clients in mind. A++++++
Wow! Is it even possible. Seriously…my two fav actors in the same show. I’m as happy as a school girl on her first date. These two actors work is SO underrated. Happy to see them working (& together, EEEK!)
That is some great casting choices there, especially having Paul Blackthorne play Quentin. After seeing him as Harry Dresden, I think he’d be perfect in the detective-role. I was actually just re-watching The Dresden Files last week on dishonline(dot)com. It’s where I often go when I want to check out a show again, or catch a recently-aired episode I might’ve missed, being that it’s a convenient, free streaming site run by my employer, DISH. It has a ton of programming and the best part is, you don’t even need to be signed up with DISH to enjoy a lot of the programming on there. I hope everything goes as expected, because I’d rather see Paul Blackthorne in Green Arrow than The River.
