EXCLUSIVE: Peter Berg & Sarah Aubrey’s production company Film 44 has inked a new overall deal with Universal Television. Under the two-year pact, the two will develop and produce new projects for the studio, which has been transformed by the new NBC regime from an NBC production arm into a supplier to all broadcast and cable networks. Universal TV EVP Bela Bajaria noted that keeping Film 44 in the studio family was an easy decision. “Pete Berg and Sarah Aubrey have exquisite taste and are amazing producers,” she said. “They are well-respected within the community and we look forward to a very productive relationship under the new Universal TV banner.”
Under its previous overall deal with the studio, Film 44 produced NBC/Universal TV’s Prime Suspect. Berg directed the pilot, which was picked up to series, with him and Aubrey executive producing the drama starring Maria Bello. Berg and Aubrey’s previous two series were also for NBC, the acclaimed Friday Night Lights, based on Berg’s 2004 movie, and medical drama Trauma. (FNL, which won 2 major Emmy awards for its final season, finished its run on DirecTV.) On TV, WME-repped Film 44 recently produced the HBO unscripted series On Freddie Roach, a cinéma-vérité look at the famous boxing trainer. In features, it’s behind the upcoming tentpole Universal movie Battleship, directed by Berg.

More Freddie Roach!!!
It wuz a film. First.
The show heralds a new brand and potentially a major feature title for next year. Not without its marketing challenges, but if that series trailer is anything to go by, it can be truly epic.
The half dozen people who watched the show will be sure to turn out for the movie reboot.
Battleship will become a sitcom for NBC we’re very excited about it.
Where is Vegas Baby? It’s my favorite script all pilot season. Where are they setting it up?
odd that nbc would re-up this deal
After NBC Studios took such lousy care of them this pilot season and Greenblatt and his henchman Salke decimated their show and pilots I’m truly surprised WME would advise this move. It appeared Greenblatt and Salke were out for blood from Film 44. What’s the real story?
Better the devil you know than the devil you don’t?
Sarah is gorgeous!
Why does she stay with this guy?
Is that Sarah Aubrey? And she’s a producer? If so, she’s like the sexiest producer I’ve ever seen.
Holy Crap! Sarah is smoking hot! Hope my GF doesn’t see this.
Aubrey needs to get NBC to pay attention to her. She’s the brains of this company and a total class act. She was blown off by NBC network this year with their dumping of Prime Suspect. They didn’t take Film 44′s development seriously. Why would Film 44 resign with NBC/Universal. They were of no help.
With friends like NBC you don’t need enemies.
Really. She is the heart and only brains of this outfit. A decent person in a twisted partnership. Why she doesn’t move on is a mystery.
Pete is honest, loyal, fun, terrific with actors and a fantastic director. He and Sarah are a great partnership and if you’re ever lucky enough to work with them you’ll see that for yourself.
I loved both Heldens pilot and Nagle pilot developed by Aubrey and Film 44 this year. Two of the best scripts out there. Why did they resign with NBC/Universal when they did such a bad job for them?
Aubrey needs to be tougher and not let Pete do all the screamin.
but that’s all he’s actually good at
Pete needs therapy because he’s stone cold crazy and has uncontrollable rages. Sarah needs therapy because she’s too smart to be partnered with a guy as misogynistic and infantile as him.
Ms. Aubrey has great taste in writers and material. She’s a blast to do business with.
Mr. Berg not so much.
