While Once Upon A Time is yet to get officially renewed, the producers and cast members of the freshman ABC hit already have their sights set on next season. That is understandable given that the fairytale series is the top-rated new broadcast drama series this season and its renewal is considered a formality. “We have some ideas for Season 2,” Once Upon A Time co-creator/ co-showrunner Edward Kitsis admitted during a PaleyFest 2012 panel discussion today moderated by TVLine’s Matt Mitovich. One element of a second season will be the addition of the Little Mermaid character of Ariel, who was alluded to on the show a few weeks ago. “It’s been challenging to pull off (this show) every week because we’re trying to balance two worlds and thematically link them,” said Kitsis, who co-created the show with Adam Horowitz. “We were never interested in just retelling the old (fairy) tales. Kitsis also revealed that all Once Upon A Time cast members were the producers’ first choice for the roles. “Everyone that we asked (to be on the show) said yes.”
Beyond ratings, Once Upon A Time also has had an impact on pop culture. During the Q&A portion of the session, an older woman stood up and addressed co-star Josh Dallas, who plays Prince Charming on the show. “I want to personally thank you for moving my almost-12-year-old granddaughter on from Justin Bieber,” she said, drawing a laugh.

This is my very favorite show, I love the idea of going from the fairy tale world back into the real world is so much fun and well written with great imagination. In our world today with so much violence and corruption and wars, it it refreshing to just relax and let Once Upon A Time take you elsewhere, and just enjoy this wonderful show that is so different from all the other shows on TV now. Love it!!!!!!!
This show is pure magic and keeps me anxious for sunday night to arrive.Beautifully done and well acted.Always intriguing storylines.Waiting desperately for a second season announcement.Have watched the Belle and Mr. Gold episode numerous times.
This show is just amazing!! So looking forward to more seasons
I love this show keep it coming…just got catch up oj all episodes
First, I’m shocked by any bad comments, its become my favorite new obsession. I grew up loving fairytales, wasn’t sure at first how it would play out as a show vs the movies and books, however they’ve been very clever and I love the twists, come on Little Red Riding Hood was the Wolf, HELLO? I love how Henry knows everything and who is who… I love that they go between the two worlds and how they’ve intertwined them in an hr.. Two Big Thumbs up!!! I’m just waiting for once, that the Mayor aka Evil Queen get it stuck to her just once before season end!!! I actually can’t wait til the next episode every week and that hasn’t happened in along time!!!
Im hoping for season 2 but i hope i dont have to wait too long. i want to see emma become fierce and i hope the two worlds start turning back to storyland and emma fights there.
I agree with the person who said Grimm is better, but I do like the show. I am worried that it will become too soap opera like with the Snow/Prince aspect. hubby and I almost gave up on it for that. We totally adore Carlyle as Rumple/Gold, and we’d love to see more about him. (We’re still curious about the Belle situation.) At least he has more than one side and an interesting backstory. The Queen is getting a bit tired. I’d love to see them pull off a second season, but I think they need to dig deeper and go beyond the Snow/Prince romance angle.
I love this show! I actually just recently learned about and I have to say… my hats off the producers … It is indeed amazing to see this transformation of all our childhood stories into real life and relating situations to our world. Please dont stop! I LOVE IT!
my favorite show, LOVE IT!
I agree with you. This show ia awesome
My friends and I love this show. It’s fun and a nice change from everything else on television. I agree that sometimes the writing gets a little predictable, but there are still surprise moments. It’s been really interesting to see classic fairy tales with a twist, and some of the actors do a really great job. I’d really like to see a season two, so that they have enough time to at least tie everything up well and have a really great ending. As much as I love the show, I can’t imagine them going beyond two seasons. I think at that point the show would start to become stale and could lose some of the charm that makes it fun to watch.
I am a loyal fan to this show. I can honestly say that I look forward to it every week. I don’t find the acting terrible. Honestly, it’s that sense of imperfection that makes it believable for me. I’m tired of Always seeing the same actors on multiple series. I love that this show isn’t one of them. I can lose myself in the story for an hour every week and I love it! Keep it up once upon a time! As for the rest of the world, let this show be! If you ain’t got nothin nice to say, please keep it to yourself and let the rest of us enjoy our show!
Every good thing has got a hater. I’m all the way in Kenya and I make sure I get every episode of OUAT the next day after its aired. Everyone’s favorite fairytale in technicolor and in a way you never imagined it. I hope they renew it
I love this show I look for it every sunday I don’t have cable nor antenna so I watch it online and its the best show I’ve ever seen I say wanting more to the point I rewatch the episodes I tell everyone about this show and now we discuss it over the phone this is the best show by far keep it up thanks…
I absolutley love this show! Not only is it different from every other show on TV these days, it has me looking forward to what is going to happen next. I love the way the writer’s have twisted the stories of each fairy tale to fit the progression of the show’s story line. I also love how all the character’s fit into the story without taking away from the main idea. The actors chosen to portray these characters fit their parts well, almost as if they are actually the character. The only thing I hate about this show is that I have to wait an entire week to see what happens next.
I absolutely love this show! There is no better way to end the week, than by watching Once Upon A Time. I will truly be dissapointed if there is no Season 2…….
I absolutely love the show! I love disney & fairy tales. I was very excited about the show starting & have watched every episode faithfully, dvring them & even watching them over again! I love that theres a twist on the tales as well as a back story and continuance of the “happily ever after.” True some episodes werent as interesting, but ive never watched a season that every episode was phenominal. I do agree that there needs to be more “villains” though. maleficient was killed by regina?! I think the villains should band together & good should band together. Im still waiting for our Aladdin, Ariel, Repunzel, and others to show up! Also, have someone else try to steal mary margarets heart so theres rival between him & charming.. If its going to be a success, it has to have more twists than just “one true love” and I think if theres rival between the villains, there should be rivals with the others too, it would make it more interesting, for me at least. I mean, we’re already somewhat “changing” the tales, so go ahead and add some drama in there & make people NEED to see what happens next, just like the discovery of katherine being alive! I need to see what happens next, how its going to play out, and how shes still alive if her heart was found in the box! We need more suspense to keep the show alive! I am planning on buying the season when it hits the shelves & interested in seeing what happens next, as well as seeing whats going to happen in season 2, and millions of people are in agreement with me!
now that smallville is over i’ve been looking for a new show. not that smallville will ever leave me but once upon a time is by far my new favorite show. it has mystery, excitment and drama. Its great and is just the show i needed. once upon a time is show i can find myself being very attached to for a long time.
I just want Graham back
Great show. Second season please!!! Some of the episodes were just great.
It´s good when somebody believes Henry for a change. The sheriff, the mad-hatter… awesome
LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SHOW ! With that said in regards to the negative comments – if its so BORING and STUPID then why even bother commenting on it? Your obviously watching it so whats your point? On the other hand you dont watch it in which case you have no basis in your critique.
Anyway back to the fans my prediction on how it will end this season and season 2 begins – Emma defeats the Queen and successfully reverses the curse sending everyone including Henry and Emma back to fairytale land. Season 2 picks up with everyone in fairytale land and the Queen and her mother Cora (as well as other villians)hatching their next plan to ruin everyones lives. To me they cant continue with everyone being in the dark and with the comments Jane Epson made about it being hard to go back and forth between our world and theirs means that they will keep everything and everyone going but on the fairytale side. Would love to see Emma bonding with her family and trying to come to grips with not being in this world anymore.
I love this show! It is one of the best on television. I can’t wait for a second season. This is the only show I look forward to with anticipation each week. Very well done and getting better every week. I hope it never ends.
I absolutely love this show. I really hope it gets renewed.
Omg I LOVE this show! And it keeps getting better and better! The suspense is killing me. I’m watching it right now, with hopes for a second season. Emma refuses to believe she’s snow white’s daughter booo! Excited to see what’s next and hopefully the ppl in storybrook do not get screwed! Lol
This is hands down my favorite program…I’ve always had a close relationship with my inner child, & this show is a true testament that she is alive & well. That says a lot for me at 60 years of age. I hope they keep the series running…can’t wait ’til Season 2!
