The WonderCon crowd down in Anaheim today saw an exclusive extended trailer for Ridley Scott’s sci-fi epic Prometheus that was introduced by Scott, co-writer Damon Lindelof and stars Charlize Theron and Michael Fassbender. Fox is among the majors on the convention schedule looking to drum up support for its tentpoles — for the studio, that means Prometheus and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. (Lindelof tweeted in the lead-up: “Abraham Lincoln can hunt vampires, but Ridley Scott can hunt Abraham Lincoln.”) Here’s the trailer, which has more than a few echoes of Scott’s Alien — certain to make fans of that iconic pic happy:

WOW!
i hope the movie is as good as that trailer
kudos to michael fassbender for trying to be in every other movie released in the past couple of years
1.) ridley scott makes 1 good film a decade. and this is not it.
2.) the music at the beginning of the trailer was stolen from the inception trailer.
3.) michael fassbender is not remotely attractive. i don’t know why casting agents love him.
4.) no wonder noomi rapace left uta last week.
1.Were we watching the same trailer? This looks incredible.
2. No it wasn’t.
3. Watch “Shame” Michael Fassbender deserved the Oscar this year.
4. You are an idiot.
While I also don’t agree with the guy you replied to, you really need to come up with better arguments to turn down his points. Simply saying, “No it wasn’t” and “You are an idiot” as your bullet points kind of just makes the previous guy look a lot smarter.
Why does it matter that they used the inception music for the trailer? Its a common practice for movie trailers to use music from past movies. I think it looks great. Pull the sick out of your ass.
repeat all 4 points every night before you go to sleep, it might help with your insomnia
Simply said you’re an idiot.
Fassbender is an excellent actor and this trailer is the best so far. TDKR is not this good, just repetitive from TDK.
Stick to superheroes and Twilight.
Just watched X men fist class last night. He is hot.
You are why the internet can suck. Any idiot with a keyboard can post his stupid ignorant shit to the detriment to the rest of us. The “music” from this trailer is from the original Alien trailer, from 1979, which Ridley directed.
Yes !!!! its from Alien… thank you for pointing it out.. most people don’t draw that connection
Correction. Ridley Scott ALWAYS makes good films and more than a few times he’s made great ones and twice he’s made science fiction and both are classics to this day. This will be epic and I will be there.
You forgot about Legend. It’s also Tom Cruise’s worst movie…ever.
Because you have seen this movie, right?
No wonder Noomi left UTA? What? What actor wouldn’t have killed to be in this film?
Oh. My. God.
Mind blown.
relax, amigo. you’ll be all right.
One day, I will write a screenplay for Ridley Scott. I hope…pray….wish..
They keep releasing trailers they have even released “trailers for the trailers” previews for the next trailer, did they announce this is the final trailer or is it just another teaser trailer?
I’m starting to think there is no real movie just a bunch of trailers and on opening day audiences will see 120 minutes worth of trailers they will get to see 60 different versions of various two minute trailers.
Spoiler Alert: Ridley only filmed five minutes of actual movie scenes and these five minutes will be edited into as many possible combinations of trailers as is humanly or alienly possible.
you’re an idiot!
in this trailer alone are more anticipation moments than anything I’ve seen in the past 5 years!
Do you seriously doubt the man that made so many great movies that he will deliver the goods!
Well, the same guy also made ROBIN HOOD. And LEGEND. And 1492. And, y’know, that Russell Crowe wine movie (yeah, I didn’t see it either).
Scott has made good movies and bad movies and everything in between, so there’s no telling how PROMETHEUS will turn out.
Hey… There’s nothing really wrong with Legend.
That Tim Curry make-up is still brilliant.
LEGEND was fucking amazing… who would hate a film where Tom Cruise cries over a unicorn?
Beyond the impressive visuals, I thought LEGEND was a bit of a snooze when I was a kid. I haven’t tried it since.
Those horns still freak me out.
*snort* The only things worthwhile in LEGEND were its gorgeous look, Tim Curry–and the sinister enchanted dress.
Tim curry rocks !!! Strange to think the same person starred in rocky horror. Every wolf sufferers fleas tis easy enough to scratch! Darkness !!!!!!
Very nice!!
Watching the trailer I think Noomi Rapace will be amazing, so much better than in Sherlock Holmes: a game of shadows. Charlize and Fassbender will be good but Logan Marshall Green and Idris Elba will surprise too.
Now THAT is how you cut a trailer!
DAMN! Looks amazing and what a cast! Between this and Snow White and Hunstmen, Charlize is going to have one hell of a Summer.
I’m in.
It looks to me as though Scott found that vibe that made ‘Event Horizon’ look so good — and IMPROVED it.
Kudos to Ridley — he STILL knows how to drive it home!
Event Horizon is a frustrating film because it is so close to good, but Anderson undermines his film over and over with his poor decisions. The first act is relatively atmospheric and intriguing, but it just devolves into a slasher film. Not that there is anything wrong with a slasher film. However – when a filmmaker hints at big ideas and inter-dimensional concepts – it’s cheating to throw in a serial killer-conceit at the end, something that Danny Boyle also did with Sunshine.
Burnett–totally agreed. And it’s a shame because EH had a nifty premise, atmosphere to burn, and creepy, good-looking visuals. But the minute its makers opt for the old “smart characters suddenly get stupid” ploy to start killing everyone off, it was all downhill from there.
You mean “the vibe” that EVENT HORIZON stole from ALIEN?
I can’t believe the ignorance of some of the people on here…it’s unbelievable.
Doc Michaels, Present-day corporate Hollyweird counts on people who were literally born yesterday, and have no sense of film history as recently as the late ’90s, when Event Horizon was first released.
Kinda like the music industry that doesn’t count on you recognizing samples from superior older music.
I’m just excited to see an actual SPACE MOVIE again, with ships and spacesuits and stuff. I just wish it was ORIGINAL, and not based on Alien (a franchise/concept that has been run into the ground over the years).
What was the last ORIGINAL deep space movie not based on anything that came before? Supernova (2000)?
Well there was Pitch Black which was the same year. But much more recently, “Pandorum”. Came and went, but as far as the genre goes it wasn’t half bad.
Oh, also “Sunshine”, which is terrific even though everybody always craps on act 3.
Note to John Carter marketing team: THAT’S how you make a trailer.
This just surpassed The Dark Knight Rises for being the most anticipated film of the year for me. This is why I love cinema.
Ditto. Dark Knight was in my number two behind The Hobbit and this was number three. But Prometheus has definitely jumped over Dark Knight for me. And its very very close between this and the Hobbit. I loved the first two Aliens (rest of them are ok…) so seeing some of the things in that trailer got me really excited.
Looks incredible.
Ridley to the rescue (of the franchise)!
Great trailer but how absurd that David Giler and Walter Hill had to be given producer credit on this with Ridley. They had nothing to do with this movie but somehow their old Alien contracts allowed them to muscle their names onto this film. They are like Melniker & Uslan who have to be given credits on every single Batman movie for as long as they get made including the animated Batman movies you always have to see Melniker & Uslan as executive producers. Moral of the story: always have a smart tough lawyer do your first contract because you never know how many sequels and spinoffs will happen over the next 30 years and you will always get paid and see your name on the final product.
that’s right, mr. rothman. you learned the moral of the story.
It is absurd that they got credit for the third one, as Giler called director David Fincher the “shoesalesman” and left Fincher to entirely deal with the production fiascoes.
in mr. giler’s defense, mr. fincher has sold quite a few nikes in his time.
To Ridley Scott’s credit, he made the original ALIEN and for that alone he deserves to be in the pantheon. The same goes for Giler and Hill. They all deserve any riches and fame that come from that.
Excellent trailer. Remember, they can’t hear you in Space. HELP ME!!!
Note to Andrew Stanton: this is how you make a SciFi movie.
And yes WallE also was crap in a can.
Yay! A summer movie not based on a shitty DC/Marvel/Tv show!!!!!
Yes, it’s so refreshing to see a summer movie that is so completely made-from-scratch original.
“it’s not an alien prequel, it’s not an alien prequel, it’s not an alien prequel…”
Exactly! How absurd is it that they keep claiming that. What is their game in actively denying something that is so obvious from the trailer? If this doesn’t turn out to have continuity with the Alien universe than it is a ridiculous rip-off, in which case why would Scott bother to do a new alien-life sci-fi movie that rips-off his own previous one? I mean from the trailer alone it has the same ship (that is later found destroyed in the first movie), the same huge alien pilot, the same face-hugging aliens pod (in their first form). Etc.
I can understand being coy and evasive about the connection. But to outright lie seems like all it will do is add confusion and annoyance when people see it.
exactly
Consider the source; Damon Lindelof honed bobbing, weaving, obsfucation and evasion to a fine art during his time on LOST.
Finally, some true science fiction awesomeness. Where have you been all these years? We missed you.
scary, thrilling, epic – and those are the lesser points. Home run with three on bases for the trailer/music edit. I’m hoping this is ‘Alien’, ‘Bladerunner’ Scott and not ‘Hannibal’, ‘Russell Crowe Pinot Nior’ Scott. The designs alone are staunch class. This could be the one to beat for summer oh-12.
Not really screaming adult entertainment is it? Space marines, explosions, jumping – looks a bit token to me
wow- first trailer I’ve seen in years that makes me think I have to see that. Great looking trailer
Soooo, from the looks of the trailer I take it that everyone dies??
Lol. Good trailer nonetheless.
Best Trailer in ages!
Sci/fi, done the way it should be for contemporary audiences.
who cares if it is a prequel or not, looks like it stands on its own with probably sequels.
you are right, huge summer for Charlize.
Such a bitter actor… Love it! I want my eggs over hard and wheat toast. Stat!
