EXCLUSIVE: A Gifted Man co-star Rachelle Lefevre is staying at CBS as the lead in another drama series project. The Twilight alumna is set in the title role of CBS’ drama pilot Applebaum, produced by CBS TV Studios, which is also behind A Gifted Man. Based on Ayelet Waldman’s Mommy Track Mysteries series of books, Applebaum centers on Juliet Applebaum (Lefevre), a former public defender who becomes a private investigator to keep from being bored to death as a stay-at-home mom. Chris Columbus is directing the pilot from a script by Ayelet, Jennifer Levin and Sherri Cooper. The four are executive producing with Michael Barnathan and Jeff Rake who serves as showrunner. For Lefevre, the project is formally in second position to A Gifted Man, which ended its modestly rated freshman season last night. Given that Applebaum is at the same network and studio, this is considered a very safe second position. Still, there is no final decision on the fate of A Gifted Man yet as CBS is waiting to see its drama pilots. Lefevre, who chose Applebaum over a competing pilot offer from ABC, is the second A Gifted Man cast member to book a pilot in second position, along with Margo Martindale. She is with Gersh, Pearl Hanan Management and attorney Neil Meyer.

I understand what second postion means, but could someone please explain what a “very safe” second position means?
I guess it means that CBS should know whether A Gifted Man is doomed, so CBS wouldn’t cast someone from that show unless they knew she’d be at liberty.
A Gifted Man is dead. Just like Cougar Town is dead. That’s why all of the actors from both shows have been taking meetings as well as auditioning.

I think “A gifted man” is a great show. She plays a good part in it. I would hate to see it go off the air.
@Kale As the article states, she will still work for CBS in the same studio. They are used to working with her, which is considered safer than working at another network with unfamiliar people.
Sad to see that this probably means AGM is not coming back…unless it means that the character of Kate is being replaced.

I only watch A Gifted Man for Rhys Coiro & Pablo Schreiber, so I wouldn’t be the least bit upset to see the back of the Kate character on that show. I just hope AGM comes back — I NEED my weekly Rhys Coiro fix like I need to breathe.

I absolutely love the show A Gifted Man. It holds my attention very well and I look forward to it coming on every week. Great storylines and the actors are awesome. I hope it comes on for another season. I hate to see the actress go who plays Kate. She is fantastic and has really good chemistry with Michael. I hope they can find someone that does the part justice.

They should have tested AGM elsewhere on the schedule. Like Mondays at 10 or Tuesday’s @ 9. CBS needs to stop protecting H50 and NCIS:LA… They are squandering potential future hits by protecting those 2 buzzless series. CBS needs to take some risks.

I love her as Kate and I’m happy she has another actress gig, but il be sad if AGM is done.

I think CBS knows what they are going to do with AGM that is why they seem sure about casting her in the new series.
