EXCLUSIVE: Radha Mitchell is set to play the lead in the ABC drama pilot Penoza, written and executive produced by Twilight scribe Melissa Rosenberg. Based on the Dutch format, it centers on Martha (Mitchell), the widow of an assassinated criminal who is forced to adopt her husband’s role in a crime syndicate in order to protect her family. Mitchell, repped by ICM and manager Rick Ax, will next be seen in Silent Hill: Revelation 3D.

whats going on with Vanessa williams and Jesse Martin who have deals with the network. Why arent they in any pilots?
Radha Mitchell is one of the last people I would have imagined when I read the pilot. She’s a solid actress but just doesn’t fit with the profile of that character.
From what I hear, casting hasn’t been the smoothest sailing at ABC this pilot season…
Yeah… but what is smooth sailing about anything at ABC or Disney?
Because she was the last person you’d think of is exactly why she’s an interesting choice.
Interesting… and probably pretty cool when all is said and done. Nice job on coloring outside the lines – which is, imnsho, a welcome tact in the Hwd Tv biz of late.
This script is amazing and a million times better than AKA Jessica Jones the Marvel thing MR wrote–great 10pm show for abc. Perfect casting.

Next season looks like it’s going to be a tough one for ABC. Not one single concept is screaming out WINNER to me. And they’re going to need a couple hit dramas because besides Grey’s and Once, the rest are pretty mediocre performers.
