After Alcatraz on Monday, two more freshman shows on the bubble — comedies Whitney and Are You There, Chelsea – had their finales last night. Like Alcatraz, both NBC series finished their freshman runs on a low note: Whitney (1.5/5 in adults 18-49) was down a tenth (6%) from last week, while Chelsea (1.2/4) was down 14%. NBC didn’t do midseason comedy Bent any favors with its scheduling of back-to-back episodes in the low-trafficked Wednesday 9 PM slot. In its second week, the romantic comedy starring Amanda Peet and David Walton (0.9/3 at 9 PM, 0.8/2 at 9:30 PM) kept steady with its low premiere, down a tenth at 9 PM and even at 9:30 PM. Rock Center With Brian Williams (0.8/2) was up a tenth.
Fox dominated the night with American Idol (5.0/14, 17.2 million total viewers), up a tenth in the demo from last week’s fast national. CBS and ABC had only one original each, Survivor (2.8/9, flat) and Happy Endings (1.9/5, up 6%), respectively. The CW’s departing drama One Tree Hill (0.6/2 in 18-49) posted a puzzling 25% week-to-week drop for its penultimate episode, while America’s Next Top Model (0.7/2) rose a tenth.

Safe to assume this is the end of the road for Whitney and Are You There? NBC can’t possibly renew these awful and low rated shows, right?
Please cancel the abysmal Whitney. NBC, are you listening???

Rock Center is a ratings embarassment while Chelsea was a losing concept from the get go. The much maligned Whitney actually isn’t as bad as people think but since no one is watching there’s no real discussion to be had.
Bent…well…you never really had a chance.
Gut the line-up, develop better shows…oh wait…you’re developing a “comedy” with the woefully unfunny Dane Cook. Sigh. You just can’t do yourself any favors can you NBC?
Everything remotely associated with Chelsea Handler, including Whitney Cummings as a comic, is grating and difficult to figure out why people ever liked them to begin with.
I’m so glad that Chelsea’s ass kissing minions will finally take some blame for falsely making her think this show was funny. I’m talking to you Brunell and Wollack.
This entire Wednesday night schedule is a prime example of the ineptitude of the folks at NBC.
Two shows that were never any good but got picked up and hyped, resulted in poor reviews and few eyeballs. One show that is good, complete with positive reviews but nobody knew a thing about it and was dumped against Modern Family & Idol. And a news magazine that has been DOA since it’s premiere.
Must See TV? No. Must Be NBC.
There’s always next year. It’ll turn around at some point. Right?

Last year at this time, March 30, 2011, American Idol had ratings of +24 million total viewers and a whopping 7.7 demo rating. Just look at last night’s numbers against repeat programming on the other nets 17 million total viewers and a 5.0 demo. That’s a drop of 30% in total viewers and 35% of its demo ratings that are gone from last spring. Idol continues to crash hard even with no competition this week.
Bent is really good…far better than Whitney and Chelsea. NBC should give it a fair chance. Great cast and fun writing.

I would like to celebrate that these shows are over, however, I killed myself after watching the first few episodes, so the only thing that stunk worse than these shows was my rotting corpse. Sorry, corpse, you know it’s true.
Didn’t watch either girl show, but Bent is really really good. There is no connection between Who’s the Boss and Bent other than what people who haven’s seen the show assume. The show is smart and quirky and filled with original ideas. I hope it makes it.
Time to say good-bye to all these NBC Wednesday comedies, such as Whitney, Chelsea and bent. Just awful programs with bad scripts and terrible acting and the ratings reflect that for a desperate network such as NBC. Seriously, when is Greenbladt and his staffers going to understand that the Zuckerwad method of running a network will only land them in the CW’s position if they don’t cut out this nonsense. Start producing and green-lighting shows that people will actually care about and not drivel from the previous regime that smells of manure. Just unbelievable!
This network is in the toilet. There’s only one man who can bring it back from the dead… and that man is VINCE MANZE.
So do not want tobsat this i wanted to not like it, i avoided it….. But. (sigh). I like Whitney. I know!! She kindanone note he is a big goon but call me craz those two have chemistryband scripts be damned its fun to watch. Supoorting cast Yah. I think nbc should hang on to this one
Bent is the best new comedy of the year on network TV. It has the reviews. It has the cast. It has a great show creator. What is NBC doing? And when will they stand up and explain themselves?
It’s funny how people wasted their time watching low-rated Bent but want to bash Whitney and Chelsea who has higher ratings.
You single-cam lovers annoy the fuck out of me.
The writing development process at NBC is abysmal. Time to change the people running those writers programs and get new eyes, intellects, perspectives- so THEY could in turn select fresh writing voices and new writing talents. NBC is like a bad major league sports team, you need a good farm system and minor leagues to have the top echelon do well!

I really LOVE both shows and really that was the funniest thing on TV Wednesdays. I swear they can’t keep anything good and really SMASH stinks but that stays! I swear if it wasn’t for the voice I would not turn on that channel again!! I like to laugh and both those shows have me and my friends laughing our butts off!!!!
