EXCLUSIVE: Romy Rosemont and Mary Birdsong have been cast in Roseanne Barr’s NBC comedy pilot Downwardly Mobile. Co-created by Barr, her boyfriend John Argent and showrunner Eric Gilliland, the multicamera Downwardly Mobile stars Barr as Rose, the proprietor of a mobile home park and surrogate mother to the unique people who live there in a challenging economy. Birdsong, repped by UTA and manager Stacy Abrams, will play Kathie Lee, quintessential 
“trailer trash” who runs the pizza/beer joint in the park. Rosemont, repped by Domain and Main Title, will play Sheila, a resident of the mobile park who works as a nurse on the “death floor” at a nursing home. The pilot expands Rosemont’s relationship with 20th TV; she also recurs on the studio’s Fox musical dramedy Glee as Finn’s mother.

The pilot script is actually top notch and hilarious. Or does that matter because you seem to just want this to fail…

What a great piece of casting news. Rosemont is so talented. Can’t wait. I’ve loved her in everything I’ve ever seen her in.
Are you high? Or do you work for Roseanne? She’s a horrible actress and about as talentless as they come. She was the Seinfeld of her old sitcom (obviously the least talented of the principle characters)
and her voice is that of a drowning parrot. She has no range, can only laugh or squawk on cue, and as a human being, she leaves a lot to be desired. I TOTALLY hope this show is a monumental failure.

Oh I can’t wait for it to start. Two of my favorite actresses in Mary Birdsong (Reno 911 and more) of course Rosanne, the icon.
Regardless of what you think of Roseanne, hit sitcom was terrific until the last season. No way would NBC take her on unless they felt the show was a quality product. And Mary Birdsong improves anything and everything she’s in – witness her recent “Raising Hope” role, and her part in “The Descendents”. I’ll be looking for this show and hoping it’s a keeper.
I want the world to grasp Mary Birdsong’s virtually boundless brilliance, so I hope it’s a massive hit — and that they give her plenty of opportunities to sing.
Roseanne is one of the worlds most amazing women
Say what you will re. Roseanne; I’ve defended her for years on the basis that she Isn’t “phony”, & that goes a long way in a world where many pretend to be ultra-nice when they’re Not. She’s herself, she’s truly gifted @ making us laff, & she’s got great taste B/C she hired my also-gifted daughter, Mary Birdsong. ( ;] Y’all Go, Gals!
I don’t know why the show is not getting picked up.
I don’t know why they wouldn’t pick it up because I loved the Roseanne show and I still watch the reruns on TV. I am sure this show will be a hit. I also believe that Mary Birdsong would be great part for this show.
I recently have REWATCHED most of the Rosanne series. Brilliant TV. I looked her up hoping she was up to something new. I agree that NBC would not have taken this on if they didn’t believe in the project. Wonderful casting. Can’t wait.
