Rush Limbaugh Sandra Fluke ControversyThe Internet content company said on its Facebook page that “one of our core values is that we act with integrity” – and acted to protest Limbaugh’s characterization last week of Georgetown University law student Sandra Fluke as a “slut” and a “prostitute.” The influential radio host attacked Fluke after she told a congressional hearing that the government should require employer health care plans, including Georgetown’s, to pay for contraception. AOL said it decided to ”suspend advertising” on Limbaugh’s show because his “comments are not in line with our values.” Other companies that have backed away from the broadcast include Carbonite, Citrix, LegalZoom, ProFlowers, Quicken Loans, and mattress companies Sleep Train and Sleep Number. Limbaugh has apologized for his comments. He said on today’s broadcast that his comments about Fluke were “inappropriate” and “uncalled for,” adding, “I do not think she is either of those two words.” With his attacks, he said, ”I acted too much like the leftists who despise me.” Clear Channel’s Premiere Networks syndicates Limbaugh’s show.
