MARCH 15TH UPDATE: New info reaching me is that this visit took place on Wednesday, March 7th, and not on Friday, March 9th, as I’d previously reported. EXCLUSIVE: Feds Formally Investigating Allegations Of SAG Pension & Health Plan’s Pair Of Embezzlements And Cover-Ups
EXCLUSIVE: SAG sources tell me that federal government agencies “raided” the SAG Pension & Health Plan offices last Wednesday Friday. Unmarked cars arrived around 5 PM, stayed for five hours and left with several dozen boxes. Insiders believe the feds were either FBI or Department of Justice. All, including the Department of Labor and the Securities and Exchange Commission, had been contacted regarding the alleged embezelment claims surrounding SAG’s P&H Plan and the Craig Simmons filings. It now looks like this entire matter is being investigated by federal officials. I’ve asked SAG for confirmation, but on matters of the P&H Plan the guild normally points out that it’s separate from the union. I’m out of town but will have more on this Wednesday.

This should not have happened in the first place. Who is minding the`shop? Half of the board members are trustees. The fact that they need a conviction to recoup the stolen funds via the employment dishonesty bond does not change this.

serious question – how does this embezzlement actually happen? literally? it’s not like these guys work at a candy store and can pocket cash when some kid comes up with a fiver to pay for some swedish fish. no cash, our green currency, actually is sent over to the P&H. so does someone get a check written to himself from the P&H checkbook and walk down the block to his or her bank to deposit or do whatever. there must be a third party entity laundering the money and the check writer must be in on it too.
but regardless of however this is getting done, we should be glad this is getting the exposure it needs. flush out the scum and move forward.

How in God’s name can SAG and AFTRA continue this merger charade when so much is unanswered. The staff of both unions should come clean if they are really acting in the members interest or is it the AFL-CIO and the interests of the corporate structure they really care about?

It will put the breaks on instantly and force SAG to do due diligence. One question though, were the letters on their jackets, FBI or DOJ

Having worked for the DOJ, Dept of Justice, I can tell you that they don’t need to “RAID” anyplace. They would have arrived before the end of the day,with proper papers (subpoenas)etc. The anti-merger group appears once again desperate to use inflammatory language, when it’s not just misrepresenting the truth, using innuendo, and scare tactics
along with harassing some members to push their agenda.
At the very least we can see our tax dollars at work…to find where my union dollars ran off? Is there a chase scene forthcoming? That would actually MAKE L.A. news.

Wake up people! This IS about merger and our Pension and Health benefits! As a 35 year union member, who is vested, this extremely concerns me. LET’S CLEAN HOUSE and get rid of the Board and the staff. I hope the Feds bring charges to those responsible and that they end up in jail. This is MY MONEY, YOUR MONEY, OUR MONIES, that they have an obligation to protect and that they’ve been messing with.
