HBO premieres its controversial political movie Game Change tonight about the 2008 U.S. presidential campaign based on the book by journalists John Heilemann and Mark Halperin and directed by Jay Roach and starring Julianne Moore and Ed Harris. On Friday, Palin sent this email to ABC News:
“I believe my family has the right priorities and knows what really matters. For instance, our son called from Afghanistan yesterday and he sounded good and that’s what matters. Being in the good graces of Hollywood’s ‘Team Obama’ isn’t top of my list.” Palin also Palin also told Fox News: “I’m not going to go see the movie, neither is the good Sen. John McCain. We’ve discussed this and realized that Hollywood lies are Hollywood lies. They’re going to do what they can to drum up their money and their machine, and their machine happens to be a very pro-leftist, pro-Barack Obama machine there at HBO that created this movie. And those campaign staffers who essentially threw John McCain under the bus, I think that they should feel some shame, and they should feel some embarrassment, because the movie is based on a false narrative, as you can see in the trailer.”
McCain said “it’ll be a cold day in Gila Bend, Arizona” when he views the film.
Palin’s former aide Jason Recher called the movie a “false narrative cobbled together by a group of people who simply weren’t there.” Randy Scheunemann, who advised Palin during the campaign, said that “to call this movie fiction gives fiction a bad name.” And the Sarah PAC website posted this reaction:
Despite HBO’s best efforts, we have all seen the movie Game Change. We stand by everything we previously said on the record. The movie is at best ‘historical fiction’ – historical only in that Sarah Palin was nominated and campaigned for the office of Vice President. The movie is a series of scenes where the dialogue, locations and participants are invented or rendered unrecognizable for dramatic effect. HBO and its surrogates continue to argue that they spoke to 25 sources. None of them are on the record nor is their level of involvement in the campaign disclosed. Not one source is on the record in either the book or in the movie and it is clear why. The authors of the book never even traveled on the campaign with Governor Palin. We call on HBO to add the fiction disclaimer.

“It is all lies, and I have not seen it yet!”
They actually said they DID see the movie. Learn how to read.
I think he was talking about Palin — who hasn’t seen it. He reads fine.
Quoted DIRECTLY from the article:
“Palin also told Fox News: “I’m not going to go see the movie, neither is the good Sen. John McCain.”
Perhaps it you that needs to learn to read… after all, it IS fundamental.
“Despite HBO’s best efforts, we have all seen the movie Game Change.”
Wait, I’m sorry, was HBO trying to get people to NOT see the movie? Wouldn’t more people seeing the movie be exactly what HBO wanted?
Honestly, the only difference between fiction and reality here is that even dressed up as that halloween costume of a person, Julianne Moore is way hotter than Sarah Palin.
“Despite HBO’s best efforts, we have all seen the movie Game Change.”
I think the Sarah PAC people were trying to see it early and imagined some sort of conspiracy from HBO to try to stop them from doing that.
First of all what adult says ‘Team Obama’ as though they are a 13-year old Twihard? Second if it’s all made up lies why even address it? It just gives the show more publicity. I had no idea it was coming on tonight but you just told me AND made me curious as to what these juicy lies are. See how that works Ms. Palin?
“Pro Leftist, pro Obama”?
No honey, they are pro murder, pro drugs, pro megalomaniac behavior, pro porn, pro prostitution and pro vile language at every turn.
And then you should see their programming.
Zing.
What is incredible is that No one is addressing the MOVIE, it was terrific, Julianne Moore is one of the best actresses, not to mention Woody Harrelson, No one has one comment about the movie just the usual political crap!
LOL when GOPers use the phrase “false narrative.”
That’s the beauty of HBO: you don’t have to “go see the movie” since it comes right into your living room. Or do they not have HBO in Alaska, since it would be too easy for the Russians you can see from the shore to intercept the signal?
You do know that Tina Fey said that about seeing Russia from her house and not Sarah Palin right? Or are you so stupid that you can’t tell one woman from the next? Or do all women look the same to you? You probably feel the same way about black people too, right? What an idiot.
Can you read? OC said “..you can see from the shore” which was essentially what Palin had originally said, Fey being a humorist tried to make it more absurd by saying “from my house”, but it’s pretty hard to make Palin seem even more absurd and ridiculous then she already is.
Actually, Palin said “you can actually see Russia, from land, here in Alaska.” That makes the original comment valid, since it says nothing about seeing Russia from Palin’s house. I find comments like yours quite sad. Calling someone stupid and an idiot for a simple joke? Really?
“Calling someone stupid and an idiot for a simple joke? Really?”
Are you talking about Dorothy or people who attack Palin?
You do realize that the comment was made in reference to a question posed to her about her foreign policy qualifications, Tim W.
Palin said the following: “They’re our next-door neighbors, and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska.” You might be able to see the Siberian mountains from an uninhabited place in Russia, but you most certainly can’t see civilized Russia and Moscow is further from Alaska than New York is. So, before you harp on someone for saying that all women look the same to them, maybe you should do a bit of research before you find a talking point.
I think the above replies get to the heart of the matter, particularly about clarifying that Palin did, in fact, make the comment and also pointing out the semi-joking nature of my post. All I have to add is that I don’t think all women look/act/are the same; I can articulate exactly why I think you, in particular, are a pot-stirring drama-seeker of low intelligence, why this has nothing to do with you being a woman and furthermore why this should in no way reflect on the accomplishments or character of other women.
By the way Dorothy, when you made that comment how did you know I wasn’t a woman? Or black, for that matter?
Dorothy, Dorothy, Dorothy… she DID point out that she could see Russia from Alaska. It’s on the record. She was tragically unprepared for the role she was asked to play. You’re not in Kansas anymore, Dorothy. Learn the facts before you shoot yer mouth.
The overall point being that Palin was attempting to establish foreign policy experience by suggesting her state’s mere geographical proximity to Russia made her qualified to conduct foreign policy matters as a VP. That would be why she was roundly criticized.
I always felt sorry for Sarah Palin during here time with McCain – a woman completely unprepared for a National campaign thrust into the spotlight.
It’s been her life since the election that’s shown me what a clown she is. I can’t imagine if Obama had lost the election his first instinct would be to whore out his family on some embarrasing reality show, then become an MSNBC talking head nimrod.
After the election she had 2 choices – learn from her mistakes and become a true political force in the Republican party – or instead, get famous. She chose fame at any cost. She’s a political Kardashian with half the ass.
Excellent comment; I laughed out loud!
In the book GAME CHANGE, authors Heilemann and Halperin depict all women very harshly. It’s as if these two men have no use for women in leadership.
In Heilemann and Halperin’s universe, you’re either a shrill, arrogant b*itch or a dumb c*nt. I would suggest to anyone crowing about Palin to look at the book and realize Hilary Clinton- for all her intellect, experience and education – is depicted even worse.
Women run for a powerful national office and they are slapped, beaten and shamed. Nice one, guys.
Yes. You are quite right. Not only is the book badly sourced with no first hand sources that would have given it credibility to what they say about Palin and the Palin family but there is a real difference between the way the men are viewed and the way the women are viewed and how they are described. There was something very 1950s about it. The thing is – i do not even think that the writers are aware of it. If you asked them they would think they were very even handed.
Right, because you conservatives care so much about women and their rights. That was a good attempt at trying to use Liberal arguments about Women’s rights against Liberals but no one is buying it, since everyone knows y’all don’t give a s**t about Women or their rights.
Brilliant comment!
You, sir, are amazing.
SPOT ON.
I always thought of her as a complete a**, just like the Kardahians…
Oh, you mean the booty-thing.
One of the best comments posted here!
Bravo!! She talks about hating Hollywood while taking money from them…having a reality show, with her daughter getting a reality show and Palin trying to get another one. She got rich and famous from the failure and I will always blame McCain thrusting this woman on the American public.
Plus, I heard the film makes her look rather sympathetic, so, maybe she should tune in.
You are hilarious. Well said!
History has no problem pulling the The Kennedys, but when it has to do with a Republican, HBO sticks with it. Democratic Hollywood is damn right.
Says the person who doesn’t remember what happened to The Reagans… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Reagans
Difference being… the Reagan movie was still released. The Kennedy’s was never released.
It helps to get your facts right when whining about “lefitst Hollywood”.
HBO had nothing to do “The Kennedys”. It was produced by an independent company for The History Channel. When The History Channel declined to run it, it aired on Reelz.
And The Kennedys was bad, too. If that series was quality, other channels would have jumped to air it. But the show was completely overblown and shrill, with hammy performances by actors who should know better.
I’m still waiting for the Bill Clinton Movie. Primary Colors was good, but Bill and Monica would be awesome on HBO (or Skinemax.)
Nothing is more truthful than a bunch of liberals portraying Republicans!
Based on a bunch of Republicans talking about their experience with those Republicans! Right, yeah, just “liberal” propaganda – even though the McCain CAMPAIGN manager is one of the main sources. lol Keep living in your little right wing bubble, sparky.
Every statement that comes from the failed Palin “team” confirms what egomaniacal freaks they are.
This was a good film about a truly unsettled and strange woman who thinks everything is about her.
Wait! Have we had a world leader that WASN’T an egomaniac? It’s in the job description.
HBO and Hollywood, pro-liberal? Uh DUH! Is she just realizing this now?
Funny that Sarah Palin is doing exactly what she does best – pontificating about something she knows nothing about. She should sit down and watch the movie. I saw it and felt a great deal of empathy for her.
Empathy? Do you even know what that means dum-ass?
It means you identify with her, duh…
Did you really call someone a “dumb-ass” for using empathy instead of sympathy? I’m sorry, but these kind of comments are why I usually can’t read comments on websites. People think that a little anonymity means that common courtesy goes out the window. It’s depressing that people think it’s okay to behave this way.
This was a movie about the extreme insanity of Sarah Palin. That is all one takes away from it. Palin is an extremely insane woman who is dangerous
How?
Back up your accusations with examples. But you can’t can you? In that vain, I’m going to accuse you of being a child molester, money launder and rapist.
Now deny it.
How is Palin dangerous?
When stupid people think they are smart, and they wield power and influence, it sure smells like danger to me.
Have you met our current VP?
“Launderer.
Anyone who believed this liberal trash is moronic.
But liberals are salivating to destroy anyone who threatens them.
Shame on Tom Hanks for producing such a piece of crap.
NO ONE has bashed this insecure, self-obsessed B****, least of all Ms. Moore – who is just doing HER JOB and accurately portraying the woman she was hired to portray – Meryl Streep just won an Oscar for doing this, for an equally controversial, divisive woman, Ms. Palin. Lest we forget, Acting is an art form – and Ms. Moore is at the top of her game – but I’m preaching to the converted, we all know Sarah, The Imbecilic is deaf as a stone….
Are you fucking kidding me? Julianne Moore has been bashing Palin for months, admitting she still doesn’t have an ounce of respect for her (yeah, that’s really going to result in a subtle performance). Whose ass has your head been up?
Just finished “Game Change”. It portrays Sarah Palin as an uneducated, deluded small town politician in over her head.
The movie was kind to her. Even sympathetic.
I agree. Sarah Palin should be grateful they were as sympathetic as they were. Both Steve Schmidt and Nicole Wallace were there and agree this is the way she was. The rest we saw ourselves in 2008.
When are conservatives gonna wake up and realize this is war? When are we gonna crash their parties, social events and awards ceremonies? It’s high time we tore a page from their playbook and got in their faces in a major way.
If conservatives had any art or world view, they already would. Hollywood wasn’t magically highjacked by liberals. Talented people just tend to have their priorities in order.
Hear, hear!
I know. I laughed at that nonsense too. “Priorities in order,” that’s so stupid it’s funny as hell. Showing semi-porn geared to young teens and trying to persuade the world that homosexuality is natural, having to have three people to make a kid, yep, that’s natural. Hollywood is about as sick a place as there is in the entire world. Priorities? Surely you jest.
“jersey Shore?” “ABC FAMILY?” “MTV,” a show created by a blatant homosexual with a chip on his shoulder titled “The NEW Normal?” What a friggin’ joke. Priorities? Unbelievable.
All politics aside, Hollywood… talented?? Oh, but clearly — what would we do without the Apatow comedies and comic book franchise sequels….
Let me get this straight – you’re STILL following a woman who doesn’t know that North and South Korea are different countries – and thinks the QUEEN is in charge of England – but WE’RE “Followers”?
ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!
Liberals call themselves artists. No, they are just storytellers living in their own little fantasy worlds. And they portray conservatives as the evil antagonist. But the real creativity is in the fact that THEY are the evil ones, deflecting it onto others.
Thats fuckin ignorant. Talented people have their priorities?? Schwarzenegger, Michael Bay, Jon Voight, Charlton Heston, Trace Adkins, Ted Nugent, Tom Selleck, James Woods, Gary Sinise, Mel Gibson, John Wayne, Chuck Norris and many other talented people are or were conservative as well. Just because you think stupid uneducated celebs such as Madonna, Sean Penn, Britney Spears, and Alec Baldwin are the cream of the crop for Liberals… I feel sorry for you. You can have your idiotic celebs, Ill take our classy and more talented celebs all day long.
The good news is that in four years the Republican party – and Republican extremism – will be a political relic, marginalized as the ranting fringe no longer capable of expressing a valid or realistic vision for the country. They’re a sinking ship.
The smart money has been migrating out of it since Obama in 2008. In fact, intelligent conservatives are already trying to figure out how to co-opt the Democratic party, and based on what I’ve seen Obama do since he took office, they’re doing an excellent job.
@Aaron — so that means you’ll start writing books instead of burning them?
War? Are you a wingnut who really believes you’re under attack by the “teh liberal medias?” Enjoy holding you’re “I hate Hollywood” sign outside of the Emmys this summer when Moore wins for her performance.
>>>>>Randy Scheunemann, who advised Palin during the campaign, said that “to call this movie fiction gives fiction a bad name.”
So it’s fact?
When you say that calling something fiction gives fiction a bad name, it means it’s not fiction, right? and if it’s not fiction, then it’s fact?
Do these people not know how to use the English language?
No. You don’t.
Movie was good, Julianne was fantastic, but never told much about the Obama campaign. Seems like is was thrown together fast without the proper research done. Just like Sarah.
7 out of 10.
If you did any research, you would know that the movie is based on the book Game Change which includes President Obama, the film makers decided to focus on McCain/Palin saga.
The is probably because it wasn’t about the Obama campaign
Actually it was about all the campaigns. John Edwards comes off very badly too, but you won’t see them blow those chapters up into a whole movie.
Actually the book was about Obama but you just proved you don’t read. Nice one, hipster wannabe.
Lady, what is your problem!?
If you hate everyone on this board, GET OFF THIS BOARD!
Otherwise, have some friggin’ civility! I mean, I don’t tread on your haven (FOXNEWS), don’t tread on mine!
Taking a firm stand against something one hasn’t seen or read seems to be a uniquely Republican move.
Someone tell this empty-headed gidget that her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ was a long-haired anti-war leftist who fed the hungry with manna from heaven, healed the sick for free, and called for the repudiation of material wealth and money-changers, or what we now know as bankers. If he were to return to Earth and do that today, she and her Bible-thumping Republican friends would call him a commie.
We have a BINGO!
I’m too busy laughing to comment. Thanks.
Right on and spot on.
Please turn this comment into a script. Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant
This is the best comment I’ve ever read on here.
spot on. Excellent post
And have you given your wealth away? No? Oh. Hypocrite.
oh please, Dororthy. You have no idea what he/she does or doesn’t do with the wealth he/she may or may not have. I think we’ve all heard enough from you for one day and it’s time for you to move along.
Even your summation, a page from the liberation theology ilk, is reductive. If you really want a full portrait of the Christ, try reflecting on the entire scope of the Gospels. He’s far more radical than even your summary; hence the ire that he drew. People of the day either hated him and wanted him executed, dismissed him as a loony of the first order, or followed him with their entire being.
LOVE THIS! It goes with something I always say in the face of a Right-Wing Khristian Krusader (I can’t call them Christians, because that defiles everything He stood for):
If Jesus were alive today, he’d protest war, speak out against corrupt governments, fight for universal healthcare, oppose the unfettered amassing of obscene wealth, and renounce the pleasures of his worldly possessions to go live among the poorest of the poor to try to heal, feed and lift them up.
Who does all of that today? SEAN PENN! A man they revile.
Which means if these zealots were alive 2,012 years ago, they wouldn’t be the devoted followers, they’d be the bloodthirsty hoard on Calvary Hill throwing rocks at the insurgent nailed to the cross.
Funny!
Sean was married to Madonna.
I’m pretty sure Jesus wasn’t a dickhead like Sean is.
Umm, Jesus did not feed people with manna from heaven. That happened as the Israelites were fleeing Egypt about 1,000 years before Jesus was born. But these are good descriptions of Jesus in my opinion and I mean no offense. Just want the record straight about manna. Jesus is my hero, and I’m not joking in any way.
Don’t forget, Jesus also said to “render unto Ceasar what is Ceasar’s”…meaning rich people pay your damn taxes!
Typical GOP whining. They all use the words “Hollywood” and “Obama” and “liberal” and “left” as if those are slurs, and they shriek “Lies! All lies!” But for all their blustering, none of these people manage to cite A SINGLE EXAMPLE of what the movie got wrong. Because, of course, they can’t.
Are you kidding? Go to Breitbart.com and they have a full thread on what is wrong. What gives you the liberty of telling all of us what we do or don’t know what we know. You should be ashamed of yourself.
Breibart’s site site being fair and balanced, I’m sure.
Breitbart? The guy who purposely edited news stories to fit his own views? As in removing sections You’re just as delusional as he was.
And the writer did his homework before writing the movie. He consulted with former Palin advisors to the 2008 campaign… he and director Jay Roach actually reached out to Palin herself to consult the script — but she turned them down. And Julianne Moore based her performance on what was documented, not speculated
Drudge followers, the folks at HBO did their homework. But no, it’s so much easier to attack them… show some restraint for once.
Breibart?
A man who built a career on lies and defamation. A boiling canker sore of hate.
Yeah, he is a stellar example of the BEST the extreme right has to offer.
Don’t like Hollywood? Make your own movies then. Oh wait…Atlas Shrugged…never mind.
Hahahaha. Win.
I actually watched the fill. They make Palin look like a uneducated idiot who could only “act” her way through debates. Always fumbling facts, degrading staff members, having a nervous breakdown, and selfish to no end.
This film was a complete waste of time. If this what you consider a balanced portrayal, forget it, I’m not watching this junk anymore. Tom Hanks has produced great work in the past, but this was awful.
Anyone who was paying attention during the 2008 election will easily point the countless characterizations. As if a memorized list of answers would somehow answer every question in a televised debate — and flawlessly at that. What kind of stupid world were these filmmakers living in? The 2008 Economic Crisis (which harmed McCain quite a bit) is hardly even mentioned.
For anyone watching this film, do not mistake it for factual. It’s a work that refuses to even acknowledge any important events that happened and simply focus on making Palin look stupid.
I think being called liberal is pretty offensive. It’s no different than being accused of being stupid or arrogant.
That’s funny. Stupid and arrogant are what some might call conversavities like Rush and Palin. The right has been allowed to make “Liberal” a slur, much in the same way they’ve demonized anything that doesn’t fit into their narrow world view.
Steve Schmidt is the hero and McCain comes across as the happy warrior. Surprisingly, Palin was portrayed as a pretty sympathetic character for most of it. I found myself actually rooting for her until the ending when her worst traits come out: petty, vindictive, dumb, immature. The films seems to be totally accurate.
I love how people are bashing Rush for calling a woman a slut and calling for his firing/death but the names people are using against Palin in these comments are so beyond that and yet they actually think there’s nothing wrong with spouting such misogyny. Pathetic.
Rush was using language intended to attack someone based on their gender. A man can be petty, immature, dumb, and vindictive. Calling a woman any of these things is gender neutral.
You’re welcome.
Men can be sluts as much as any woman…. to say calling someone a slut is only demeaning to women is pretty sexist in itself.
Another Liberal lacking in education and logic.
No, you’re just trying a little TOO hard to make a point. Nobody calls men sluts. Yes, it’s sexist. But THAT’S THE POINT. Hence why Rush was given hell for being sexist.
Just saw the film also… “Sympathetic?” They make her look like a uneducated idiot who could only “act” her way through debates.

Caught “Game Change” at a sneak (thanks EW!) and thought it was very “fair and balanced.” After all, it was HISTORY that played out on the news of the day, which the producers and editors wisely incorporated into the narrative. LOL @ Cons who think this is some kind of hatchet job.
AaronSch, you’re cool.
I am pretty damned old, so I’ve seen/known a lot of people in my time, and she is in my top 5 list of the Most Stupid Ppl I Have Known/Seen. What a moron.
It’s fairly innocuous and, quite frankly, no one cares.
Reality being you dont know her or seen her… only what other people are tellling you.
This crap film wouldnt be admissable in a court of law, and yet you take it as reality.
People like you are what get OJ Simpson and Anthony off murder charges.
So by your own logic, you personally know O.J. Simpson and Casey Anthony. Or else how could you possibly know them enough to judge them and call them murderers? Idiot.
Burn Hollywood burn!!!
Just saw the movie, very impressed with Julianne Moore playing Sarah Palin and how sympathetic I feel about Sarah Palin herself now. You have to believe she was way way way over her head in this story. Even if it was overly dramatized (which I really really really doubt), it does spell out what happens behind the scenes in politics, how some people’s behavior changes with becoming famous and in the limelight. Ed Harris does an admiral job playing McCain who sticks to his roots and beliefs no matter what (even realizing his mistakes in judgement along the way), and how someone as weak as Sarah Palin can absolutely believe she is the second coming and is as delusional now, as she probably was during the campaign. There was just too much written during the campaign to confirm what a dysfunctional campaign this really was to discount any of the plot lines here, and to say this movie was a fabrication is an out and out lie. A+. Thumbs Up!
