California Solo stars Robert Carlyle (Trainspotting) as a former Britpop rocker-turned-farm worker who is charged with DUI, leading to possible deportation after living in Los Angeles for two decades. Marshall Lewy wrote and directed the film, which played at Sundance this year. Alexia Rasmussen, Kathleen Wilhoite, A Martinez, Michael Des Barres, and Danny Masterson also star. Strand co-president Jon Gerrans negotiated the deal with Ryan Kampe of Visit Films. The Culver City-based distributor plans a fall theatrical release. Strand’s 2012 slate includes Athina Tsangari’s Attenberg, Braden King’s Here, Joachim Trier’s New Directors/New Films feature Oslo August 31st and Andre Techine’s Unforgivable.

story sounds interesting, though “former britpop rocker” seems like a little much to throw on top…
I saw the film a few months ago. Subtle, understated and moving. Carlyle is really good in it.
Saying Robert Carlyle was really good in something is like saying water is wet.
Interestingly enough, I recently saw the film a week ago and was impressed with the intelligence of the story and the performances by Carlyle and the supporting cast.
Congratulations to Marshall Lewy and the folks at Strand. It was a good get.
FINALLY! Can’t wait to see it. Robert Carlyle ROCKS (pun intended).
Thank God. He is such a good actor. Anything he is in and I mean anything is good. He could make a movie about the BMV and you would be moved. He has such talent. He is nice too. I was lucky enough to see “I know you know” and “Summer” while I was on vacation in London. His best work. You just ache for him. If you haven’t check him in Hamish MacBeth you can find it on Netflex. Also, “the 51st State”. The move is ok, but Robert make a mediocre move hilarious. His scenes alone are worth the time. He should have won an Oscar by now. He puts Pitt and Clooney to shame.
