Marvel Studios’ and Disney’s summer tentpole The Avengers has been tapped to be the closing-night film at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 28 — a week before the film opens wide May 4. Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård and Samuel L. Jackson star in the superhero movie directed by Joss Whedon. The movie wrapped production in New York.

Indie folks will probably be up in arms about this.
But as long as no “real” festival film gets bumped for The Avengers, it can only bring attention to Tribecca. The question is whether it’s the type of attention the indie filmmakers want.
I’m really hyped for this movie. Joss is a really great writer.
Thank you. I needed a laugh to start the day.
There’s something about the way Avengers is shot that makes it look like a McDonald’s commercial–even moreso than the other Marvel Studios films. On a purely technical
level, it looks pretty shabby. As for Joss’ writing? If this script was truly great, it would have leaked by now…I’m
bracing for Dollhouse-level writing.
It’s like no one remembers what Whedon did to the Aliens franchise. Or Serenity.
The new measure of success in Hollywood:
Frustrated wannabees and never-have-beens trash you in Deadline Hollywood talkbacks. Gotta love it!
