The studio today gave two of its biggest titles in the pipeline 2013 release dates, and moved its Guillermo del Toro-directed Pacific Rim from May to July 12 of that year. Warner Bros will release The Hangover 3 on May 24, 2013, where it will face Universal’s Fast & Furious 6 and Fox’s Leafmen. The 300 sequel will open August 2, 2013 where Summit’s RED sequel and Sony’s The Smurfs 2 now reside. Meanwhile, this the second shift in dates for Pacific Rim, which Warner Bros originally set for July 17 but was moved to May 10 at the head of the summer pack. Now it’s back in July, where it will face off against Sony’s sequel Grown Ups 2. It stars Idris Elba and Charlie Hunnam and is set in a future where malevolent creatures threaten to destroy the earth, and the planet must band together to eradicate the growing threat.

There’s going to be a Grown Ups 2? God help us all.
This must be an early April fools joke, because there is no way anyone wants to see The Hangover 3 and I refuse to believe the actors would agree to do it.
@nerd: are you 12 years old? the actors are turning down millions in salary? why?
When the actors are offered a shitload of cash, I can believe that they would agree to it. With the Hangover Part II, Helms, Cooper, and Galifanakis were guaranteed over $5 million each (as opposed to the first movie where they made less than $1 million collectively). Considering that they are in even higher demand now and the Hangover Part II was more successful than the first one, they’ll likely get paid even more.
You’re right. It MUST be a joke. I mean, the first two BARELY cracked a billion worldwide, and the three leads are only getting $15M against gross for a third. Why would Ed Helms waste his Office hiatus for THAT chicken feed?
Are u really this clueless in how the business works? This is THE cash cow for the actors, the filmmakers and the studio. The actors make $20 mil each… this is THE one and only time in their career this will happen. This is the juggernaut for the director- and he’s not even good. H1 was fine, but gets worse with every viewing. H2 was the exact same but people realized they had over-estimated the first one… but take a look at the economics and never ask why they would do another.
This is beach-home in Malibu money. For actors that you can get for 500g in any other movie, this is their bankroll.
Cooper said that they have new plans for 3- right after 2 so at least 1 actor wanted this. I want to see 300 2 dont care about butler, hes never looked as good as he did in 300. Reds wad a nice movie but I dont like willis anymore.
PACIFIC RIM is “set in a future where malevolent creatures threaten to destroy the earth, and the planet must band together to eradicate the growing threat.” They’re up against GROWN UPS 2 that weekend, oh sweet, sweet irony…
July’s better for PACIFIC RIM. It’s so filled with visual effects they could use the extra two months.
Obviously, the same story set in another environment will be fine for the millions who loved Hangover 2.
I just cannot see that little ‘dick’ again when it is not encompassed with some witty and original humor.
“300″ sequel? Didn’t everyone die?
Going up against Fast Six? They’re aiming for the same demos so someone is going to have to move and I can guarantee Fast Six will end up on top especially with it’s international pull.
Man, Gerry Butler and his business team need to have their heads examined for not figuring out how to get a nice big piece of 300 pt2 (the studio would have happily made a prequel). It’s one of the few parts that really allowed him to show off his star chops–fairly similar to Russell Crowe’s failure to follow up Gladiator with a cash-in sequel. It’s gonna be sad to see Butler in sometging like Expendables 3 next.
The way these studios keep trumping over each other by doing all these constant release date Changes is not looking good. Warner Bros could have put off hangover 3 until 2014. WB already Had enough tentpoles for summer 2013 and pacific rim was fine where it was and now Memorial day weekend 2013 is two crowded. Universal also has too many movies squashed together that summer and it would also make sense for them to switch Despicable Me 2 for a Christmas release Dec.20 2013. That date is still open and is perfect. And I think there other summer release RIPD isn’t really that big of a release. I wish Hollywood would stop trying to force us to make Ryan Reynolds a big star. when will the Hollywood elite accept the act that good abs doesn’t translate into a constant box office draw.
Hey, Warner Bros. marketing geniuses. Haven’t you learned the lesson of Universal’s botched handling of the brilliant Scott Pilgrim?
Namely, you don’t release a comics-derived tentpole movie *after* Comic-Con.
