With the tween-focused The Hunger Games opening imminently, Open Road is hoping to whet the appetite of that audience for another film in that vein, with the first teaser trailer from the adaptation of Twilight writer Stephenie Meyer‘s sci-fi novel. The Host stars Saoirse Ronan, Max Irons, Jake Abel, Diane Kruger, William Hurt and Frances Fisher. It is currently in production, being directed by Andrew Niccol. Ronan stars as Melanie Stryder, one of the last humans putting up a fight against an alien species called Souls, parasites that invade human bodies, fuse to each person’s consciousness and systematically erase their personalities. The Host was Meyer’s follow-up to her hit Twililght book series. Open Road is releasing the film March 29, 2013.

looks amateurish.
looks like a cannon camera ad
Worst Trailer EVER
hmm.. Kind of sounds like “The Invasion”
That’s because it is, except in this one the body snatchers have already won.
Let’s face it, the source material isn’t that good. It’s not as if the author can write a decent story.
she can to write a decent story
It really does look like they made it in a rush…. specially the part with the still pictures…it looks…like a project for a class (a good project, but still)
I guess this is attached to Hunger Games? Feels really rushed.
wtf is going on w. Andrew Niccol?
In Time was the biggest piece garbage of the last year excluding Sandler movies. Now a recycled Body Snatchers. Anyone see the Daniel Craig / Kidman version?
This is a major dud if the Twilight audience doesn’t show. Saoirse isn’t exactly bankable.
Resistance is futile?
Trailer? That was a glorified PowerPoint presentation… this actually is a worse marketing campaign then John Carter. It will be interesting to see if Stephanie Meyer will be able to draw back the twilight crowd for this one.
I didn’t see In Time, but I really like Andrew Niccol, so I am feeling kind of torn about this one. Well, plenty of time to see if he can make a turd shine I guess.
Somebody please tell Meyer to take her zillions and do something else. What utter crap.
Guys, it’s a teaser trailer. Of course it was rushed to latch onto the Hunger Games opening. It’s in no way indicative of the final film.
In Time wasn’t too bad. Not great. But not S1m0ne bad.
I’m sure the book isn’t that great, and it doesn’t exactly look original, but, well, at least it’s not vampires and werewolves.
I think the basic premise of the book was intriguing: INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS told from the perspective of a body snatcher. The Souls were interesting — a race of creatures which is both highly enlightened (when it comes to treating those of their own kind) and ruthlessly genocidal (when it comes to other intelligent species).
The main problem in translating this to film is that the main character’s conflict is almost completely internal. Two intelligences duking it out in one mind. It was funny when Steve Martin did it in ALL OF ME, but this ain’t no comedy.
Niccol is capable of very fine work (GATTACA, script for TRUMAN SHOW), but I’m not sure if he can pull something like this off.
Not bad for a first trailer. Nice eyes. However, not sure about “The Host” title. I like the “The Marriage” better since more accurate and closer to reality. The host can usually tell any guests to leave. Not so easy when tangled up.
Spit up my morning coffee when they showed the first still image. Hahahahaha.
“what should we do to market diversity around the world for this movie?”
“just go to google images and grab some still pictures, no one will notice”
Yeah… we noticed.
What are people snarking about?
Trailer was OK. Not sure about the film, these concepts rarely translate great in practice, but trailer OK.
Every one should sit back and not be so judgemental. Really, wait for more trailers to come out. Go see the movie with a open mind. I think that the actors that have been chosen for this movie have been chosen well and I believe they will perform well too. After all. Just have to use your imagination.
Its a TEASER trailer…
Ok it is a teaser trailer and maybe it was made in a rush because there were so many people wanting to see it… I was one and I loved it, its not a full trailer its a TEASER trailer, and it was made within a few months I know for a fact and what do you people get paid for being critics??? The host teaser is awesome I can’t wait for the full trailer to come out!!! Linda B. Cali. I have a soul inside me, did you all see my eyes???
