All-American Muslim, the TLC reality series depicting the everyday lives of five Arab-American families in Michigan, was canceled due to low ratings, according to a report in the Detroit Free Press. The network confirmed the decision. The freshman series lost retail advertisers like big box store Lowe’s back in December after some customers complained that the show did not portray Muslim-Americans as extremists. Lowe’s caught some backlash but did not relent after the controversy went wide: California State Sen. Ted Lieu sent a letter to Lowe’s CEO Robert A. Niblock, calling the company’s decision “un-American” and “naked religious bigotry,” and threatened legislative action if Lowe’s didn’t apologize to Muslims and reinstate its ads. The series was set in Dearborn, Michigan. “Having the opportunity to be a part of such a groundbreaking series with TLC has been extraordinary,” castmember Suehaila Amen told the Free Press. ”Our show helped to pave the way for the moderate Muslim voice to be heard in this nation.”

All that fuss over a show that was destined to be canceled anyway. Good riddance!
“… the moderate Muslim voice…” As opposed to a G-d fearing, U.S. loving voice?
Yes, exactly.
Last I checked, Muslims were a fairly “god fearing” bunch if ever there were some.
This is America. Founded on Christianity no matter what the atheists and GLADD insist.
Actually, it was founded on the pursuit of religious freedom.
Actually you’re both wrong. Most of our founding fathers all opposed religion because they were predominantly Freemasons. Our very first president was apposed to religion.
Yes the freedom breeds religious diversity. It made America unique in this regard.
Another product of selective reading, not reading at all or all around ignorance. America was not founded on Christianity, but rather the freedom of religion.
like like like like
the cojones on ted lieu.. i’m glad he’s not my rep and that i dont live in cali anymore.. now i know why i moved besides , anti white & anti christian bigotry there..good for lowes because this is still the USA and we still have the right to voice our opinions..to the chegrin of the socialist left..at one time it was the most beautiful state in the world , now with diversity and dumbing down of the educational system and the onslaught of anti business , illegal aliens and the invironmental machugas on the left thats why they are in such a fiscal mess..
Anti White? That’s all you see on Network TV.
“chegrin” + “invironmental machugas” + “dumbing down of the educational system” = You’re an idiot.
Has nothing to do with religious bigotry.
This show was doomed the moment she bullied her husband into abandoning his aged dog.
Cue the bleeding hearts.
Jesus, how PC can you get? Caving in to whining morons with a stick up their butts. You can’t say anything in this country without some group of malcontents starting a war over it.
Say bye-bye media, when racists and bigots can get a show run off the air simply because.
I’m sure the show would still be on if it had viewers. I don’t think “bigots” and “racists” ran it off the air. Lack of viewers ran it off the air, drama-queen.
Hmmm, using the Lord’s name in vain, mentioning “whining” and a “stick up the butt” using the catchword “bigot” – I get it. You are clearly gay.
Using the Lord’s name in vain automatically makes someone gay? That’s funny, I thought only loving the same gender made you gay. And clearly you have no idea what “using the Lord’s name in vain” actually means. Hint: mentioning Jesus isn’t it.
Hopefully The 700 Club will be cancelled next.
Good luck with that. Disney is contractually obligated to keep running “The 700 Club” on ABC Family until the end of time.
Is the tentative date 12/21/12?
a bit ROFL on this comment…lol but question. does anybody know what the “700″ in 700 club stands for? and umm why is it a club?
The show took place in Dearborn. It was canceled because there was no extreme or exploitive drama ala real housewives or jersey shore. They’re just normal decent people which unfortunately viewers aren’t interested in watching.
To be honest, I tried to watch it in solidarity as a bleeding heart, and it was incredibly boring, because it was just ordinary people. You can make ordinary life interesting without sensationalizing it, but it takes a lot of production talent and effort. This kinda didn’t have it, instead it was just cliches of ordinary (American) life.
Muslims have the right to be just as boring as the rest of us.
Their ratings blew up!
“California State Sen. Ted Lieu sent a letter to Lowe’s CEO…. and threatened legislative action if Lowe’s didn’t apologize to Muslims and reinstate its ads.”
I find this the most disturbing part of the article. A U.S. Senator throwing his weight around trying to bully others to his personal point of view. I notice this same Senator has never once uttered a word about the atrocities committed in the name of Islam. I don’t question his right to his opinion on the matter or his saying it. I do object to using the office as a threat. Reminiscent of Bobby Kennedy threatening to sic the IRS on the steel company CEOs unless they settled the strike ASAP.
I think I’ll write a letter to him threatening to vote for his opponent unless he stops wasting his time with this kind of grandstanding and starts paying attention to the serious problems we are facing. Or even better……..put him on the next Celebrity Apprentice and let the Donald tell him “Senator, you’re fired”.
And I notice you never once uttered a word about the atrocities committed by so-called Christians in the name of the Prince of Peace. Did you give up telling the truth for Lent?
In fairness, the Crusades were about 700 years ago.
The World Trade Center was destroyed by airplanes about 10 years ago.
So if you want to compare atrocities committed in the name of religion, the Muslims scored last.
Those involved in the atrocities of 9/11 were not representative of Muslims. They were misguided men, encouraged by hate, full of ignorance. Those factors remain all throughout the world. History is History. Bad things have been done in the name of many different religions. Those who claim to be Muslims, Christians, Jews, Hindus who involved themselves in crimes agains others are guilty and are wrong.
Or the many atrocities committed on a daily basis by atheists and GLADD.
Are you referring to GLAAD? Confused…
i think a couple of you are missing the point regarding Sen. Ted. He’s not trying to force his religious beliefs or opinions on anyone, he’s trying to stop racism. Puling ads from a show because it doesn’t depict a certain religion in a bad light is racist. Just because some are islamic and extremists does not mean that all islamic people ARE extremists. It would be like pulling advertising from def jam comedy because it doesn’t depict black people as criminals, just because thats how a few misinformed narrow minded people think.
Im all for Politicians putting an end to racism, especially when it comes Islam where the backlash can be so devastating
He’s a state senator, not a U.S. Senator. And there’s no law that says someone must first list every bad thing every Muslim ever did before standing up to defend another Muslim.
Ted Lieu isn’t a United States Senator! He wishes! He is a California State Senator, who after solving all the state’s pressing needs, inserted himself into this situation between North Carolina-based Lowe’s Home Improvement and a reality series filmed in Michigan.
Good riddance. Ginned-up controversy for a failed TV show. Why the concerted media effort to get me to view Muslims sympathetically? Why should I be concerned that Lowe’s pulled their ads?
No ratings meant no advertising dollars and just a bad concept for a show and yes, wishing 700 Club would also go away once and for all.
Why the hate for the 700 Club? Is it because it doesn’t have violence, curse words or the token flamboyant gay character?
700 Club has lots of flamboyant gays. They just don’t admit it.
I have no problem boycotting Lowe’s. I’ll be shopping at Home Depot from now on. I hope they release the series on DVD so I can judge for myself what the fuss was all about.
I’m sure Lowe’s will survive without your 23 bucks a year.
Who was gonna watch? I didn’t give give uh…..about this show.
I really enjoyed the show sad to see it go
Very sad hear people saying this Christian country it isn’t we have the freedom as legal Americans to believe in anything we want and it’s none anyone’s dam business what these people believe in iam a Muslim and sick tired of these so called Christian always passing judgment on Muslims in Christianity says never pass hatered on anyone if your true Christian stop passing judgment and hate.
