EXCLUSIVE: Vinessa Shaw will join Rooney Mara, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Channing Tatum and Jude Law in Bitter Pill, the Steven Soderbergh-directed potboiler that Open Road will distribute in the U.S. Shaw (3:10 To Yuma), repped by ICM and Thruline, will play the wife of Law’s character. He plays a doctor who gets into a relationship with a troubled woman (Mara) who is taking serious amounts of prescription drugs. Her intake is ostensibly designed to help her deal with the anxiety surrounding the pending release of her husband (Tatum) from prison. Scott Z. Burns wrote the script, and he’s producing with Greg Jacobs and Lorenzo di Bonaventura. James Stern’s Endgame Entertainment is co-financing with Private Defense Contractors.

Great news. Vinessa’s a highly underrated actress and a pleasure to work with. For once I have nothing snarky to write on DHD, just offer my congratulations.
Thought he was retiring?
I agree. Vinessa is always good and I could not be happier for her.
Vinessa is incredibly talented and, more importantly, a wonderful person. Congratulations!
she starred in one of his Fallen Angels shows that he directed for Showtime years ago.
She’s great!
God, I loved her in HOCUS POCUS.
Hasn’t he retired yet? He’s worse than Dame Nelly Melba and her two dozen farewell concerts over 10yrs.
What in the hell is this?? I thought Soderbergh had announced he’s all finished with movies. Never going to direct another. Going into another filed entirely.
Hypocrisy never leaves Hollywood, does it?
Welcome back, Steven… now shutup and direct!
