BURBANK, CA, March 22, 2011 – Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures are reteaming with Todd Phillips for “The Hangover Part III,” the third installment in the record-breaking comedy franchise, which is slated for release on May 24, 2013. The announcement was made today by Jeff Robinov, President Warner Bros. Pictures Group.
“The Hangover Part III” will star Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis, who will reprise the roles of Phil, Stu and Alan, collectively known to moviegoers as “the Wolfpack.” In the previous two films, the three friends’ attempts to plan a celebration have resulted in disaster for them, but led to a combined billion-dollar success at the worldwide box office.
In making the announcement, Robinov stated, “We are extremely pleased to have Todd Phillips and the guys back together again for another ‘Hangover,’ and we look forward to collaborating with them on another great movie.”
Phillips said, “I’m so excited to embark on another ‘Hangover’ film with Bradley, Ed and Zach. We’re going to surprise a lot of people with the final chapter we have planned. It will be a fitting conclusion to our three-part opera of mayhem, despair and bad decisions.”
Phillips is writing the screenplay with Craig Mazin, who also collaborated with him on the screenplay for “The Hangover Part II.” Phillips is again producing the film under his Green Hat Films banner, together with Dan Goldberg. Thomas Tull and Scott Budnick will serve as executive producers.
Production on the film is projected to begin in September 2012.
CAA represents Phillips, Cooper, Helms and Galifianakis. Phillips’ attorney is Warren Dern from Sloane Offer Weber & Dern. Helms is managed by Principato-Young and attorney Ira Schreck from Schreck Rose & Dapello. Galifianakis is managed by Brillstein Entertainment Partners and attorney Jared Levine from Morris Barnes & Levine.
A presentation of Warner Bros. Pictures, in association with Legendary Pictures, “The Hangover Part III” will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

So I guess this confirms the end of The Office.
or at least ed helms on the show.
or the end of the world as we know it
“It happened again, again.”
Good one, among the worst films/franchises of all time in my opinion, sells simply because a large percentage of the population are idiots. Don’t blame the studios, they should market whatever they can successfully sell.
Rumor has it that it’s about Alan’s 40th birthday party set in Los Angeles.
Set this shit in space, yo.
they can’t. the fourth one is the one that’s in space.
but this pretty much proves my point why people download stuff. why should someone pay inflated ticket and concession prices to see a film that you pretty much know is going to be garbage going in?
Really? Your analysis is that piracy is caused by the release of garbage? Why do people also pirate great films then?
The masses continue to go see films in theaters because a)it’s still an easy and fun date night (or night out with friends) and b) the big screen experience still trumps even the best home systems on the films where it matters.
Phillips is already on the record as saying a third installment would radically break from the existing format. I thought the first was fantastic with incredibly specific and ridiculous characters. The second was redundant beyond belief, but those characters still have some life in them.
Guess they all got the massive payday they wanted, congrats.
A good rewrite for the producers going around in writer’s clothing.
I hope this time they sit and watch The Hangover — at least 10 times. Maybe they’ll remember why it was so brilliant. The 2nd one was such a massive disappointment.
sweet fancy moses- part II was unwatchable! That being said, the first one is one the best comedies of the last 10 years. Lets hope this resembles the first one. I’m guessing Part III will include the Zach Galifinabudickuakudis character getting married.
Open pitch to Todd Phillips: It’s Alan’s bachelor party and Doug intentionally roofies everyone to get revenge.
This is becoming the Police Academy franchise. Except without a dude making funny noises with his mouth.
Worst movie franchises in history??? Idiots??? I guess we idiots just know how to let our guard down and laugh a little. Lighten up Francis.
I wish Justin bartha is given a bigger role
This will indeed be the last installment…
until they come out with a reboot three years later with a younger cast and the same scenario.
Don’t you mean three months?
I don’t see anything in the story that indicates this is the finale. Though it should be, because the last one was putrid.
Won’t be a reboot or a re-quel. It will end its theatrical life with this 3rd one — then suddenly a year from now Warner Premiere will rear it’s ugly head and create direct-to-dvd sequels A La Universal’s American Pie and Bring It On series — and then in 10-15 years, a “Hangover Reunion” set during Jeffrey Tambor’s funeral will be a theatrical..

I find that comment about Mr. Tambor offensive
.
Hey Now!
Hahahaha. Best comment I’ve read today.
Awwww…he meant Alan’s dad, not Jeffrey Tambor! Jeffrey Tambor will still be around in 10-15 years!
Hangover in 3D!!!
COME ON!
I liked hangover 2 — and a lot of other people did too.
I actually liked it. It absolutely wasn’t as good as the first one, and was indeed repeated some gags. But it was/is enjoyable and funny to watch. As I watch it, I just imagine there wasn’t a first movie….that way I’m not constantly comparing it to the original and can just enjoy a few laughs.
I’m still waiting for the creators of this series to acknowledge their debt to…wait for it…DUDE, WHERE’S MY CAR. It stole its entire premise – hungover guys wake up and have to piece together what they did the night before. It’s ridiculous what a ripoff it is.
I know! It’s such an original premise! Nobody else has ever thought of the idea of people waking up with hangovers and not remembering shit. I forgot how revolutionary DWMC was!
/end sarcasm
Only, for some unknown reason, The Hangover left out the part about aliens and some giant chick. I can’t understand why they would have left that out. Oh yeah…BECAUSE THAT’S WHAT MADE DWMC TOTALLY SUCK.
I laughed at the first one and really liked it, but seriously the second was an awful and unwatchable dud. Made by a group of folks who KNEW they didn’t even have to try and make any sort of effort but could coast on the tail of the first one. Phillips is shoddy through and through.
I’ll skip the third til it’s well down the rental road. Even if then.
All fine and good. I just don’t understand one little phrase – “writing the screenplay.” This is the kind of mass production inefficiency that is problematic in industry in general.
Why do they need to waste time and money to have a screenplay for this?
Part II didn’t and made money.
Note to Warner Corp: just focus on “writing” the trailer. The rest won’t affect the B.O.
People, people, people. Isn’t it obvious? Given the formula for past “trilogies”, there are really only a few ways to go with this:
1. “Hangover 3: Origins” (a prequel)
2. “Hangover 3: Back In Time” (they go back in time to rescue Justin Bartha)
3. “Hangover 3: Still Hangin’!” (Black version)
I look forward to attending the free screening of whatever b******t they churn out.
No, Hangover 2 was the finale – it killed the franchise. Hangover 3 is just the death rattle.
I thought beating a dead horse was frowned upon after LUCK was canceled.
Why can’t anyone just admit the first Hangover’s ENDING CREDIT SEQUENCE was why the movie made $500mm worldwide? Yes, the film had a few laughs but it was mainly the uproarious end credits that gave the movie an outlaw “rock concert” vibe – dangerous since how dare a studio movie dare to actually show one, little, polaroid photo of a tiny “penis” being sucked on… if that penis wasn’t an asian penis they would surley have cut it, but since it was the funny asian guys’ stuff the world laughed… if you really think about it Ken Jeong’s partial penis shot made everyone $500mm!! oh, and a brief glimpse of Heather Graham’s boobs… that is the sad truth.. the 2nd movie was god=awful and embarrassing for all concerned. GREED
It wasn’t Ken Jeongs penis in the end credits of The Hangover. It was Alan’s (Zach Galifianakis). There goes your theory.
I think one logical direction for the third movie would be Stu trying to get back at Alan, but it backfires horribly. Plus, Doug should actually be one of the characters experiencing the hangover.
They should NOT bring back the Asian character. Not because he wasn’t funny, but because it would indeed be grasping at straws at that point. Heather Graham should come back, because she’s hot (not other reason needed).
