Feature writing duo Emily Halpern and Sarah Haskins have signed a two-year overall deal with ABC Studios to develop series projects. The two wrote the feature script Book Smart, which was optioned by Fox, as well as the Universal script Lunch Lady and New Line’s Work Wife. WME-repped Halpern started in TV, writing for ABC’s Private Practice and CBS’ The Unit. UTA-repped Haskins wrote and starred in Current TV’s SuperNews and Infomania. Both are managed by Circle of Confusion.

Good things happening for good folks!
Good for them! Hope they don’t have to deal with crazy Amy H too much.
We’re female and we’re writers. Let’s not make an issue out of it.
If you have not read BOOK SMART – you must – Blacklist 2009. These ladies are very smart and very funny. Congrats to them both!
Eat that, Lee Aronsohn!
I LOVED Sarah’s Work on Current TV–very talented! Congrats!
Lunch Lady should be made with Rachel Dratch she’s so perfect to star in it.
Lee Aronsohn is looking for another screenwriting conference + a reporter in which to make a statement…
Congrats. But I find it odd that the studio is giving a deal to two writers, who together, haven’t run a series in the past.
Fantastic writers. Fox 2000 should have greenlit their draft of FRANK.
a lot of show runners don’t have any ideas by the time they are developing. Pairing them with someone who does is the best marriage.
Is Emily Halpern related to Justin Halpern of S— My Dad Says fame? If so I can see a worthy comparison to brother/sister humor team Amy & David Sedaris.
Emily & Sarah along with Chelsea Handler and Zooey Deschanel (just as a few recent names) are proof positive that women can indeed be funny and secure their right alongside the old boys’ club of the comedy world. Break a funnybone, girls!
