UPDATE: Seacrest indeed made it to the show and is on-air hosting Idol.
PREVIOUS: Can anyone imagine American Idol without host Ryan Seacrest? Fox and the show’s producers faced that possibility today with Seacrest sidelined by illness. According to TMZ, the host had been throwing up and couldn’t attend the dress rehearsal, which was emceed by Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe. Idol producers have been scrambling today to find a backup for Seacrest. I hear they tried to get Cat Deeley, host of Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance, to sub for him, with Lythgoe also on standby. Meanwhile, there are strong indications that despite his illness, Seacrest, who just closed a new two-year deal for Idol, will still make it on stage as he has for every episode in the show’s 11 seasons to date.

I agree wholeheartedly with your reference to American Idol being American. I cannot and do not watch ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ simply because I cannot stand to watch or listen to Cat Deeley. I think she would be a very poor choice to fill-in for Ryan. I’m confident that Ryan will recover and return soon.

Ditto for me, No Skyler no Idol for my family. We did not watch last night. To many teeny bopers vote for looks not talent. Too bad there was not a way to weed them out. Like a questioneer to go along with voting, example, did you vote because he is cute and if they answer yes, don’t count. Only votes that choose option for talent….then that vote counts. just my opinion. LOL

I think Ryan Seacrest has been part of the magic of “American Idol.”
Some of comments have been legitimate submission of names, one was humerous (Hologram of D.C.), but a lot of you just shouldn’t tune in, if you don’t like the show. Do you ever think of yourselves as “unkind” when you state your sarcastic opinion regarding someone is sick. Everyone has to throw up once in awhile. When you did, try to think how YOU felt. It is a pretty terrible experience. I hope he just had a “24-hour bug” and is back Wednesday night.
Hey people have compassion, even for those who do better than you. That’s what is wrong with this entire world; we’re all jealous, greedy, all about me sorts. So, why judge anyone before you judge your own pitiful little lives. Just because your life isn’t as glamorous as alot of others doesn’t mean that the rich and famous aren’t people just like you! Personally, I have nothing in my bank account and that is quite enough for me, and I strive for nothing. True happiness is, “when you have nothing and know that it’s plenty!”

Yah I hear ya Stephen. You are exactly right. If people want to be truly happy, just be grateful. There is no shame in modesty despite what some people bark at you. Today you can say whatever you like and have it published in a blog because of the electronic anonymous fog. These kids on American Idol show a lot of maturity and a lot of courage. It’s not easy to pour your heart out and have your talent judged by a panel and then judged by the public with votes. Ryan Seacrest is a hard working professional human being and he provides a valuable service. Be grateful. Be happy.
I’m sorry to hear that Ryan was sick, I think he did a superb job of concealing it tonight, I too hope it is nothing really serious I love Ryan as the host of AI, and I’m shocked at the comments here from people that for some reason don’t like him, well all I can say to that is “If you are in control of your remote, turn the damn channel” my prayers goes out to you Ryan hope you make it thru this season and all the seasons to come.
