America’s Next Top Model is cleaning house heading into its 19th cycle next fall. Leaving the veteran CW reality series are longtime co-stars Nigel Barker, Jay Manuel and J. Alexander. Top Model executive producer/star Tyra Banks confirmed the exits on Twitter. “Fierce & love 2 my Nigel, Jay & Miss J,” she wrote. “ANTM turned us in2 a family. Excited for what the future holds for us.”
The departures come on the heels of historically low ratings for the current cycle of Top Model dubbed British Invasion. Its season premiere dived 45% in adults 18-49 from the previous cycle to log the franchise’s lowest-rated opener ever. According to the New York Post, the trio’s contracts are not being renewed. Photo shoot director Manuel and runaway coach Alexander have been with the show since the first season, photographer/judge Barker since the second. Manuel also has been Banks’ long-time personal make-up artist. Barker addressed his departure in a blog post Thursday night. “Many of you have come to know me over the past eight years on the show, during which we have shared numerous amazing adventures,” he wrote. “It has been an exciting chapter in my life.”

WTF?? I think it’s time for Miss Thing (Tyra) to move on herself!
I think the ratings are low because of the concept for this season; The British Invasion. I also think the show is losing its elegance. I also think that sometimes the models confidence is confused with arrogance. It was painful to watch this season. I will miss the original members. I do not think they are the problem. Will be interesting to see how next season unfolds.
So, the worst thing about the show (Ms Banks and her Bootie Tooche) is the only thing that will remain. It’s past time to end this train wreck. So far, it has produced no supermodels and only a handful of of working models. Nearly 200 model wannabees have appeared on the show…how many are earning a living as a model? Leon Andre Talley and Kelly Cutrone added nothing to the show. I think the only thing that could save it would be to bring back Janice Dickinson and Ty Ty won’t have any of that.
Lots of the girls are working successfully.
I agree – the Bootie Tooch is so cringe-worthy. Tyra brings such a cheese-factor – it’s her that needs replaced. They need a fresh, younger model who is more in touch and has been working more recently.
Its not those three….they r the bright spots…prob is they r picking girls that cuse and fight. The behavior of the girls toward each othervis horrible. Trya promotes self esteen and not bullying but this hole season has been a bad girls sho. Also many of these girls dont look like models. Fashion shoots need to get back to showcasing fashion and stop trying to see what outlandish obstacle they can make them go through. The eps w the rapping r so stupid.

I don’t really watch anymore, but, I think the two Jay’s are such staples now. They should have just overhauled the judging panel around Tyra.
She needs to get rid of the last people that she added to the judging panel. Kelly Cutrone did not get alone well with the girls and Andre Leon Talley was so boring. Then she would not have to clean house and get rid of the best people on the show. I love Jay Manuel and Ms. Jay and Nigel. With out them the show will not be worth watching. All the fun was taken out of judging when they took Ms. Jay of the panel. She think the rating are bad now just wait until these three are gone .

In other words, the ratings suck and renewal was dependent on cost cutting. So out with the old crew and in with a cheaper new crew.

Yes! I loved Make Me A Supermodel which had male and female models. The men brought great energy.
Personally I would keep Nigel and get rid of the rest, including Tyra. Models need mentoring from younger, working models who are more in touch with the industry.
And Kelly Cartrone has been making me cringe so much.
I agree with having a male-model cycle, but I think they tried Manhunt on Bravo and it wasn’t as successful. Tyra said a long time ago that the (gay) guys would probably just make out or whatever. I say, bring it on!

I love those guys! Don’t let them go, please! I do think it’s unfair that they got brit girls who’ve already done the uk version (not that it seems they have been able to use that experience much) so maybe that was the reason why the ratings are down. Those 3 guys add so much to the show-i look forward to seeing their part in the show as much as the ladies.
I Agree with dangit, it was unfair…besides…this is AMERICA’s Next Top Model, NOT British Top Model! The male model show is a good idea, I’d watch that in a heart beat! But remember, if your going to be having the women do a nude shoot then the men have to go all out nude as well! Bet your ratings will sky rocket the night that airs!!!!!!!!!!
I haven’t been enjoying the contrived feuding between the Americans and the Brits, and losing Nigel and Jay Manuel isn’t going to convince me to watch next season.
I am so shock to hear this myself… Been watchin from Adrián won, Eva , the shorts n now british invasión … I do think new is good but u need Ms Jay for Runway n mr Jay for artistic direction… Nigel is sexy n can b replaced but who can fill da others spot??? Really really sad to see them go. The real problem is that the show does not depict what really goes on in the modeling industry. Fact is that most of the girls are (unfortunately) skinnier in real modeling, they look more androgynous and have much better walks. Also the theme of the season sucks….who cares about Brits vs. USA. Just produce good working models! I’m sure to watch next season though. I love Tyra and her positive and real presence!

I’ll try not to bore you…I agree with most everyone’s opinions and will miss Nigel and Jay Manual (never cared for Miss Jay..sorry). I think the whole format needs some tweaking…it has gotten very stale. Used to watch all the time, but got totally bored with it. I like the idea that someone else posted about doing a season with male models…that would most definitely be interesting!!
The reason you got bored with the show is because there is no one to root for like EVERY OTHER contestant show. That is the basis of contestant shows. We as viewers get invested in one or two of the contestants and root for them. This show Tyra cast models that are not worth anything more than good for cheap catalogue work and thus we don’t care and tune out. The judges are fine it is Tyra who is the problem.
QUESTION – why in 19 cycles hasn’t there been hardly one TOP MODEL to come from the show and blow up? Is it just bad luck? I think not. Every time I watched the show I always commented that these models look real second rate.
Tyra’s ego has always gotten in the way of the show. Not to mention she takes the lead on the show and she is by far the least appealing.
This comes as a shock. I don’t think Ms. Banks is going to be “smizing” when it is realized that viewers watched because of Nigel and the Jays and in spite of Tyra Banks.
I think it was a good move, but she should have kept jay manuel and miss j. Nigel’s time was up long ago, he didn’t anything to the show except for being a “noted fashion photographer” ha! Does Tyra realize there are way more talented photographers out there who have been the industry longer. Bring in someone who has a shit load of credits. I can name the big ones right off the top of my head, Annie, Mario, Bruce, Steven (both) Meisle and Klein and David. But then again I highly doubt Klein and Meisle would ever do reality, I bet Annie would though. If I could create the panel it would look a lot like this. Tyra (she will never leave), Kelly (she knows her shit), a modeling agent maybe uh? you’d think maybe Sean Patteron of Wilhelmina of Ivan Bart of IMG ya know agents from 2 of the biggest agencies in the world , any of those photographers esp Annie or Mario or Bruce , maybe a model from this century we need some new talent of models hell maybe even a model model Tyson Beckford or Jason Shaw but if you gonna do females bring in Lara Stone or Agyness and a fashion designer this is a tough one just because they have to choose someone who is on one coast, and I’m sorry but it’s time to take shit back home, home home, Tyra bring it back to NYC the real fashion capital of the world, WTF are you doing in LA? so that way you could have some like Diane von Furstenburg. So there we have it, Tyra, Kelly, Ivan, Annie or one the ones I listed and Diane, Tyson or Agyness that would be one hell of a panel. Actually that would be the best panel.
Tyra, Tyra, Tyra – you just don’t get it – do you? What’s great about America’s Next Top Model? The show is BEST when it features campy, over the top & FUNNY participants: James St. James, the 2 Jays, and Andre Leon Tally. The show was at its zenith with Tally on the panel. Without him the show is DRECKITUDE.
Tyra – you are not funny. You are embarrassing – like the needy, geeky, overachiever trying to get people to like her. You need to surround yourself with personalities. Instead, you feel as if you have to outshine everyone and you place yourself next to the downbeat, sloth-like mien of Kelly Cutrone.
Let’s face it — there are no models on Top Model. The show was lovable for being so camp & fun – a true guilty pleasure. And, as other have pointed out, I was willing to endure Tyra and enjoy the rest the rest of the cast. America’s Next Top Model should have voted Tyra off the island.
THEY are the show…….without them …..there is NO SHOW!!
Sad to see all the talent go. I worked with tyra on her talk show and i know for a fact that she is a stiff, cue card reading, no talent model. Nice enough but nothing between her ears – couldn’t even formulate a question for a guest – had her producers standing to the side writing them for her. Why does the shit keep floating to the top? Now sure. But Jay, Ms Jay, and Nigel will move on to bigger and better!
It is the only contestant show where the key judge has to be better than the contestants. Tyra is the worst judge of raw talent I have ever seen. Every other contestant show produce contestants that become stars. 19 cycles and hardly a TOP MODEL how ironic!
I think Tyra is so ego driven she must choose talent that will not upstage her. Instead I think she would be proud to produce a superstar model that graces the cover of all the worlds leading magazines. Not Tyra – it is all about Tyra. Getting rid of these 3 judges is a major mistake and another excuse for Tyra’s ego. All are quite good and each fit a perfect lane for the show. I am sorry to see them go they each added nice color and insight to the show.
Tyra, it’s time to get a clue & use that Harvard education of yours. The Jays were the only good thing left of your craptacular show. You have ruined it beyond repair with your stupid “smize”/”booty touch” bs. Seriously, do you think your audience is a bunch of 11 year old girls? That seems to be the only people you are appealing to these days. This show used to be good, but bites the big one now.
I really think that they should do a show that has 38 and up. They show these young ladies but some of the older ones have spunk too.
The only problem with the show is Tyra herself! She should be the one leaving. The Australian version is WAY better, Tyra should take note.
