He couldn’t use the “Sorry, this has actually never happened to me” excuse this time. Eight months after Anderson Cooper’s giggling fit triggered by a poo-poo joke in a RidicuList segment about French actor Gerard Depardieu’s alleged public urination on a plane, he did it again last night, once again during his tongue-in-cheek RidicuList. This time the trigger phrase was “pussy willow” in a segment about an obscure Polish American post-lent holiday called Dyngus Day. While struggling to regain composure amidst giggles, Cooper uttered “This is so stupid,” a phrase that appeared directed at the holiday. But after facing criticism from Polish organizations, Cooper today insisted that was not the case. “I am concerned to hear that some people believe that I called Dyngus Day celebrations ‘stupid’ or in any way criticized this holiday. I did not,” Cooper said. “While in the midst of a silly giggle fit I said ‘this is so stupid’ in reference to my inability to stop laughing… I am genuinely sorry if I offended anyone by the lighthearted tone of the RidicuList.” Video below, Cooper breaks down around the 1:30 minute mark.

Does anyone still watch his show or CNN for that matter?
Pathetic. Another example of why I am watching less and less CNN. I don’t want my news to try to be funny. I realize The Daily Show has become both news and comedy, but CNN should start a new channel if it wants to be cute so badly.
It’s “become” news and comedy?
There’s a long tradition of including some light material and laughs in the news, especially at the end of a news show. This isn’t something new or some new thing CNN is pulling. 60 Minutes had humorist Andy Rooney, local news traditionally has the anchors making light hearted chat, newspapers have funny pages, etc.
He’s so hot
When I think of Pussy Willows I think of Serial Mom.
Brilliant movie, brilliant reference.
Funny how he made it through the Dyngus talk, but the mention of Pussy Willow sent him over the edge.
Would not know one if he saw one.
((Shaking Head)) I must say I am pleasantly surprised his syndicated show is doing so well. Don’t catch it daily but when I do… not a total train wreck. Bottom line, aside from the above (ahem, pull it together man) he’s likeable. But damn keep that studio at Warner Center it really looks amazing on television, I think half the time I’m scrolling through that show w/ the sound off to look at the background. Don’t move! No more giggling Cooper unless you’re prepared to ummm… reveal more… persona? No? Okay then… newsman/talk show person time less Andy Cohen.
What a goofball. Is this dude really getting paid millions of dollars? Yes, this “news” is hard to take seriously, but other CNN anchors at least attempt to deliver it with a mockingly respectful jab. Though Jon Stewart just pointed this all out, CNN started running this silly stuff a long while ago, and this is why it’s hard to take them or any cable news network seriously any more…Cooper just makes it easier.
What is wrong with the occasional silly story, it’s different than fake news.
Also, the groups that are offended, lighten up, I’m part polish too. Your holiday is called Dyngus, for gosh sakes, you cannot claim the “seriousness high ground”! And whatever you do, keep the Dynguses and the Pussy Willows apart, or you’ll have to get an involuntary Willow ultrasound at the OB/GYN!
That was funny altogether. Just funny. It was a good laugh. Awesome. So awesome he had to break away from a live set.
I’m from Poland and I’m not offended at all. Some people really need to relax and not take everything so seriously. Especially something as silly as freackin Dyngus Day.
And in regards to Cooper himself… he really giggles like a litte girl, doesn’t he?
Anderson has become humiliating to watch. Here’s someone who was given a chance to become the next Peter Jennings and instead opted to become the next Andy Cohen.
Notice how the segment is called Ridiculist. This ISN’T about serious news. If he were reporting about George Zimmerman for example, he would not be bursting out laughing.
Clearly everyone takes things too seriously… He is allowed to break down… It happens to all journalists at some point.. The whole point of that segment as well is to be humorous. Lighten up. News is already so depressing. They all start with “Good Evening” then they precend to tell you why it is not one..
Agreed.
Besides the guy does have the cutest infectious laugh.
It proves it’s a lot harder to be a comedian that most people think. Rule one is you can’t laugh at your own jokes. Not sure why they are trying to turn their newscasters into comics.
I thought this was hysterical. I dont know what all the fuss is about. It’s Andersons inner 6 year old girl coming out and its fantastic. hahaha
He’s doing much better work on daytime TV following in Maury’s greasy footsteps. That’s journalism, right? “You are not the father!”
worst news ever. cnn used to be respectable but now it’s just as bad as fox, or worse because at least fox is blatant about it. cnn hides behind anderson’s hoodie reporting… btw i’m a homosexual and think the term ‘giggle fits’ is too gay for cable news.
Why so serious? It’s laughter. Lighten up, already! You gotta be able to laugh, man.
The very fact that the fool has a “Ridiculist” on his show is plain ridiculous. Isn’t there enough infotainment on the air as it is? Sad.
He’s quite right, it is so stupid. And, please, he’s not talking about his giggling. Why would he apologize to the Polish community if he’s already featuring the segment on a show called “Ridiculist”? It would seem to me the cultural slander has already been done.
So you’re suggesting he’s dishonest and perhaps a liar? If so, then, if possible, he should have “manned up” and taken responsibility for his views,if, given his orientation, this would not be asking too much.
Why on earth is this a big deal. It was a funny segment and he laughed. Do people really want their news anchors to be robots? Is that’s what it has come to? Show any outward emotion and it’s bad? And people wonder why so many new anchors are simply good looking puppets without real journalistic chops.
I think this is absolutely hilarious. I would watch news everyday if this happened constantly.
Your observation is SO-O on target, it’s downright pretty!
I’m a hetero and I RESPECT YOU for your honesty. It is people like Cooper that perpetuate the caricature and stereotype of the “gay” person – frivolous, non-serious, childish; quite analogous to the “Black” stereotype of yesteryear, clowning, minstrel etc. Gay equality is no laughing matter anymore than Black equality was. Can you imagine the reaction if Rush Limbaugh or others of his ilk were to burst out laughing at some gay reference?
