BREAKING… Antoine Fuqua has been offered Olympus Has Fallen, the White House takeover script by Creighton Rothenberger & Katrin Benedikt that Gerry Butler will star in for Avi Lerner’s Millennium. Fuqua is thinking it over, but he’s mulling numerous other jobs too, including Chicagoland, a crime story for New Line with a script by Peter Morgan. He’ll also be in the mix for the 24 movie when that comes back around on Kiefer Sutherland’s next hiatus. Fuqua’s repped by CAA. There is a reason for Lerner to want to hurry, after Roland Emmerich signed to direct a similar project, White House Down at Sony. Both are Die Hard At 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and how many of those can you have?

I love Antoine Fuqua and think he’s very talented. I’d love to see what he could do with Olympus Has Fallen. Seems like it might be kind of a departure for him. I know he’d be good with the Chicago crime drama since he’s done films in that vein before.
The report states at the bottom Roland Emmerich signed to direect
White House down. Is that rumored or actual fact he signed.?
I’d bang either one of these films. And if either director got mouthy, I’d bang them too. There’s not a damn thing I won’t lay pipe to and that’s just the way it is.
Good for him. Hope it’s a hit. He’s overdue.
What the heck is happening to Gerard Butler’s career? The guy seems all over the place, from Oscar-baiting drama dreck (“Machine Gun Preacher”) to Romantic (but not really) Comedy (allegedly, because I did not laugh) fare such as “The Ugly Truth”. And yet the dude STILL gets A-list roles. I mean he hasn’t been good in anything since “300″. And his latest “big’ hit, “Machine Gun Preacher”, flopped so much that it has yet to be released on DVD, inexplicably late if you ask me. Yet I gotta tip my hat to Butler because he’s seemingly Teflon (either that, or he has a killer agent) and just keeps pulling in the big bucks even if he seemingly doesn’t deserve them, judging by his Box Office run, excluding “300″
I’m not the biggest Butler fan, but he can deliver — UGLY TRUTH & LAW ABIDING CITIZEN & yes, even BOUNTY HUNTER were all mid-budget programmers that over-performed. UGLY TRUTH did over 200M worldwide if I recall.
He got great reviews in CORIOLANUS, a bold movie that didn’t pander to anyone. MPG was kind of a dud, but it was not a lazy or particularly safe choice.
Yes, there are some duds in there as well (GAMER), but I give him credit for mixing things up. Actors of both sexes often get stuck in their own little ruts (Kate Hudson anyone?), Butler is at least trying different things.
p.s. this is an Avi Lerner movie — not quite an A-List project.
Training Day was a great film. But that was 11 years ago. Since then he’s made Tears of the Sun, King Arthur, Shooter, and Brooklyn’s Finest. With a record like that it’s astounding that he continues to attach himself to every project in town.
“King Arthur” is a terrific film. Fuqua made each knight a fighting machine. The broken ice scenes were amazing. The Vikings were believably cruel. I had never heard of Fuqua but I sensed that he had uncanny insight into how men think.
I will take a serviceable black director with a hit or miss box office track record receiving big budget job offers just like every serviceable white director with a hit or miss box office track record as a net gain by Hollywood standards.
