Bravo’s Shahs Of Sunset, which wrapped its first season on Sunday, has been picked up for a second season. The renewal for the Ryan Seacrest-produced reality series comes after it hit a series high in the Sunday season finale, which drew 1.5 million viewers, 1 million of them in the adults 18-49. That was up 15% and 20%, respectively, from the previous week. Shahs Of Sunset, which got off to a modest start but has built up ratings momentum throughout its freshman run, was boosted on Sunday by The Real Housewives of Atlanta reunion Part 1, which delivered 3.1 million viewers, the largest audience ever for a reunion episode. Following Shahs‘ season finale, Watch What Happens Live, which featured cast members from the reality series about well-to-do young Iranian Americans, averaged 1.4 million total viewers and 942,000 adults 18-49, up 31% and 44%, respectively, from last Sunday’s episode.

This is bad news for every “persian” person in the US. People who watch these assholes on TV will automatically hate middle eastern people. I know that seems narrow minded, but thems the facts
Really? I’m sure people who will pass judgement on a whole ethnic group based on a reality show are not much better than “these assholes on TV” like you said.
Anyway, there are plenty of trashy reality shows with white people, black people, latino people,…I think persians have nothing to worry about.
The cast of Jersey Shore are assholes too but watching the show hasn’t caused people to hate all Italians.
Says you!
Plus I’m Persian and i already hated Persians before the show. Still do, if anything the show is fun to watch.
It’s a good show and it help people relate more to different cultures .
Bravo has tried to balance the scale with housewives that in some cases NEED the show to make a real living, and counter that with the Shahs of Sunset, which showcases hard working successful individuals, whose fighting seems to be explosive but easily diffused with the right drink. Reza and MJ are more genuine than any housewife friendship could ever hope to be, and the balance between the housewives and a more well rounded “Lilly Ghalichi” group of really exciting people is in check, Ryan Seacrest wouldn’t waste his time putting together garbage, Why is every post on here, the equivalent of someone’s face looking like a cat’s ass? Be happy for succes in the lives of others, and maybe you will be successful too. I would hope that from season one, all the family on the show would learn to love each other a hundred times more. If Someone throws a special party for their parents anniversary, they should see that MAYBE, not everyone is as lucky to have parents still happily married, and it may be difficult for some, to embrace that for others. Nothing should be taken as an insult, unless you are looking for one. enlightenment should foster these people so easily, and yet Asa, is the only true student of the natural world, wrapped in a plastic city. Anyway, bad publicity is good publicity, they sometimes say.
I have bad news for you, gretchen—this show is insulting to Americans, TV watchers, you name it. Bravo should be ashamed of themselves for even developing this awful, awful show.
Ryan developed it. Blame him.
Not to blame Ryan. He’s the one who exposed truth. Thank him.
Seacrest strikes again. First the Kartrashians now this.
Is this show any more offensive and trashy than any other reality show on Bravo? It seems like the thing that sets this one apart is that it’s the only show that plays up the ethnicity of its “characters”. A lot of folks are appalled by the Kardashians, but they don’t think of them as being Armenians because the show doesn’t really push that angle, right?
Good point. And yet the Kardashians are the same idiots who are still afraid to go to Turkey because of the Armenian genocide at the beginning of the last century. Sigh…
Have any of you commenters actually *watched* the show, more than just a couple minutes? I’ve enjoyed the escapist, fluffier aspects of the show as much as any regular Bravo viewer, but the most compelling moments explore the family dynamics between the generations in these Persian families (modern vs. traditional), the tension within families between Persian Jews and Persian Muslims, Reza’s family’s reactions to his lifestyle as an openly gay man within the Persian culture, and so forth.
My point is, watch the show before you write it off as stereotypical garbage. It has hidden depths that might surprise you.
The show actually does do a nice job of balancing the stereotypical garbage with hidden depths, but the perpetuation of stereotypes is truly unfortunate.
I agree with u 100%
Yeah right. I bet you read Playboy for the insightful articles.
This show has done more to Americanize Iranians than any other show aimed at the same goal. It’s a sad commentary on our nation that watching the nouveau riche callously and unscrupulously spend money and fawn over themselves in narcissistic fashion is how we identify our fellow Americans. Whoa is the nation.
Who is this we? Speak for yourself buddy.
and it took this show for you to realize that? Where have you been?
This is what TV has come down to right now…trashy, disgusting reality shows such as this and the ones put out by seacrest and a slew of others which many Americans are watching right now, allowing these networks to re-up them for future seasons. Best thing to do is stop watrching them, ratings go down and then they’re forced to cancel them. These shows are just awful!
Memo to Seacrest and Bravo for Season 2 of Shahs of Sunset:
MORE scenes of Mike w/ his shirt off and/or in a towel.
It’s all about Mike – he’s a hella hot Persian Jew!
Sexy times
Gross.
I agree that you have to watch the show before passing judgment. I really like several of the people. We might know one or two Persian people but not know much about their culture, for example, that some are Jewish. As the other poster mentioned, it does show family dynamics, modern versus traditional, etc. Plus it is fun to see that no matter which culture they came from, people are more alike than different, getting jealous and so on.
I remember a time when Bravo was a good cable network (same for A&E). Oh well, times change.
Love, love love the show, love all of you guys, happy for season 2
I’m not Persian, but I’m Indian-American. I have to say I identify much more with these folks than many of the other reality shows. If you weren’t moved by Reza’s reunion with his father after over a decade or MJ’s battles with her mom, then you’re made of stone.
I agree
I’m a Persian person living in the US and i am full Persian. Its not just Persians who act like that, it’s basically any young person with money. Sure yeah there are some cultural aspects of the show that make it more Persian but if a person judges Persians just based on this show then that shows how narrow minded and judgemental Americans are.
I got hooked on Shahs of Sunset and glad to see they
are on for another season. My two favorite people; Asa
and Mike, he’s hot and Asa has substance. I thought her
Tehrangeles song was nice.
Do not compare this show with the Kardashians can’t stand
the stupid mom Kris Jenner!
ryan c crap is a racist midget and so is this show. It just wants to exploit a community.
I do think that these Persians do not reflect what real American persian’s life’s are like but every rich American on tv is an asshole too. I also think that this television show wont ever be able to capture what our lives are like because they are always different. I don’t think people will start to hate all middle eastern people because of them, I think they will just change their point of view a tiny bit. I live totally different than “the shahs” but I don’t hate them. I enjoy the show not because it’s Persian but because it is exactly like any other reality tv show with wealthy assholes.
I love this show especialy Raza
Reality tv is entertainment tv, this show received ridiculous ratings. Apparently it’s entertaining. You can never make everyone happy, some will always be offended. I was thoroughly entertained. You have to give it to Ryan he knows how to get ratings. I love Shahs:-)
This show is AWESOME and I am a proud Persian.
I love this show!! I bet I know who’s complaining about the show….those who envy their money and lifestyle. Go Persian’s!!
Why is it whenever you switch on the tv, all you get is trash to watch. I am from England and at one time we only had 3-4 channels, but a good choice of much higher quality and educational programs. Unfortunately, English television has been deteriorating for a long time also, succumbing to a similar host of no-brainer trashy programs (trying to copy the American angle i might add). Its bad news for the country – why can’t we start a movement here to stop this filth from perpetuating – Ryan seacrest is laughing all the way to the bank – you think he gives a damn about the impact his shows have by dumbing down the nation even more. Americans should rise above this trash, stop watching and go back to some old fashioned values for the sake of the children, if nothing else.
Only in America can a bunch of rich and spoiled iranians become more rich and spoiled by making a spectacle of themselves. I don’t think there are a lot of programs in Iran glamorizing the lives of young Americans. We would get beheaded and burned, not given our own TV program and big fat check. Does anyone remember 9/11? I think it’s in poor taste to air something like this with the tension between countries. This doesn’t Americanize persians, it makes them look like they all live lives of riches. It’s tacky from many views, I wish it would be pulled of the air.
That not true m.j is my girl
