CSI maven Carol Mendelsohn, executive producer of the TNT drama pilot Scent Of The Missing, which revolves around search and rescue dogs, is behind another dog-centric project, this time on the unscripted side. CBS has picked up for summer Dogs In The City, a reality series starring New York City dog guru Justin Silver, which will premiere on May 30. In the vein of veteran Dog Whisperer, Silver, a dog trainer, behaviorist and owner of a pet care company, helps owners with any dog behavior-related problems. “Dogs are at the center of the story here, but this is a show that reveals as much about human nature as man’s best friend,” Mendelsohn said. In addition to his day job, Silver is also a comedian and founder of Funny for Fido, a nonprofit that raises money for homeless animals by producing a yearly stand-up comedy event. Dogs In The City is produced by CBS’s reality division Raquel Prods. in association with Shed Media US Inc. and Carol Mendelsohn Prods. Mendelsohn, her executive Julie Weitz, as well as Jen O’Connell and Nick Emmerson executive produce. CBS has a soft spot for reality shows about dogs. In the summer of 2008 it aired “talent” competition series Greatest American Dog, which lasted a season.

Pass.
I’m serious, this is a series that dips to the level of a cable reality series.
You do realize she said unscripted reality series. Plus there are a lot of dog lovers out there that will tune in to see this.
Yes I do realize that Nellie said unscripted reality series. But you should know that there three reasons why this show will fail.
1. As I said on top, this is the level of a cable reality series.
2. This series rips off Dog Whisperer which means that A&E will not be happy to see this series premiere. If CBS is looking for somebody to “buy them out,” they are doing a good job.
3. You can get good “dogs in the city” videos on You Tube, or any video featuring dogs for that matter.
Two and out?
“Dogs In The City.” Dog of an idea. Carol… how low can you go. Absolutely STUPID!
Has CBS learned nothing from “Greatest American Dog”? At least that show had a competition element that would appeal to more people. This will fall in line with other CBS docudramas (“Tuesday Night Book Club” anyone?). Jen Bresnan and Chris Castallo are repeating past mistakes.
Sounds horrible. and BORING.
Belongs on Animal Planet.
CBS reality was one-time great. Now it totally sucks. No vision – horrible people too.
It’s official. CBS has gone to the dogs! Based on some of their recent programs-I suspected as much.
You gotta be kidding me. This has flop written all over it.
Wow, lots of armchair critics here. I think it sounds sweet. If it’s not your style then there are 14475844489 shows about priceless antiques in your attic you can watch. To each his own.
I love reality shows and this one sounds like a dog. Epic fail. Two and out.
Just another poorly-concepted reality show on broadcast TV that won’t last a season…enough of this reality crap already!
Why not? We watched the dog whisperer, totally bizarre, and heaven knows NYC seems an alien habitat for canines, it’s bound to be hysterical with an excellent dose of freaky people watching. give it a shot, and if you don’t like it, don’t watch it. talk about censorship, you critics need a bit more experience before passing judgement!
I don’t get your comment. Your telling them to chill and give him a chance, but then you are coming down on NY. Why is it so odd to have a dog in NY? let me guess. You’re a tourist, if that.
I applaud anyone who can sell anything these days but this sounds f – ing awful!
This guy is going to get exposed so quick. As a real insider in the dog world in NYC for over a decade, no one evens knows the guy. Every pet professional here is saying, “justin, who?” He’s a dog walker with maybe five clients. Give us a break CBS. He’s an out of work comedian – not a dog guru. His misuse of the title “behaviorist” proves that (he has no formal education to back that up). His leash skills in the ONE video i can find of him actually trying to train a dog are laughable. Guy wont make it out of the gates before he is chewed up and spit out.
A little hater-ism going on here? Chill out. Good grief.
I personally cannot wait for this show. And I love that he has two Pit Bull looking dogs with him – bravo! BRING IT. All of you, go watch the Reality Housewives if you want to learn something. (FACETIOUS button here)
I’m looking forward to the show and finding out how to deal with different dog problems. It kind of reminds me of the nanny show for dogs.
Do you know if he will answer questions from viewers?
It sounds like a wonderful relief from the same old comedies and csi type shows. I am ready for mans best friend instead of enemies and insults.
I hope the show doesn’t suck. As long as it will be as informative as the Dog Whisperer, then I won’t have a problem with it. I’ve got 5
dogs in this city and use every bit of info to help me w my pack, but I’m a dog lover so I am for anything that is pro-dog!
I really enjoy the show Dogs in the City. I find his New Yawk Drawl alot easier to understand then Ceasar Milan at times. I agree with Justin’s Principles that it’s not always just the dog ..but Human’s at issue Enjoyed the issue with the Mama showing her love and the little dog was weighing like a big dog. Or the Princess with the new baby and Princess BullDog, Or the young lady that pushed her dog around in a stroller. Hilarius show. and Informative.
I doubt he could do any good in my neighborhood. I have a neighbor that has way too many dogs that bark all the time.
I just love this show. It is a show the whole family can watch. It teaches children and adults how to treat dogs. If they cancel this show, I will be very disappointed. Please don’t cancel.
I absolutely love everything about this show, and am hoping to see many more years of it! I also hope that the people who need this show will find it and learn from it.
I really liked this show and hope to see many more!
