EXCLUSIVE: Hurt People, GK-tv’s drama project starring and executive produced by William Petersen, has landed at Cinemax. The HBO sister network has ordered a pilot from the project, which marks Petersen’s return to television after his nine-year starring turn on CSI. Written by Peter Macmanus, Hurt People centers on Hollis Brown (Petersen), a veteran hitman employed by the crime family that killed his wife. Brown has been enlisted to hunt down his estranged daughter who is intent on destroying those responsible for her mother’s death. Petersen is executive producing the pilot with his producing partner Cynthia Chvatal, Macmanus and GK-tv’s Graham King, Tim Headington and Craig Cegielski. Macmanus’ manager Beth Stine is attached as supervising producer. After they liked the original script by former AMC production executive-turned-writer Macmanus, Petersen and Chvatal teamed with GK-tv to develop it. The project was taken out a month ago, targeting mosty cable networks because of its darker tone.

Petersen is the biggest star so far to join Cinemax’s fast-growing slate of mainstream original programming, adding cache to the network that already has attracted A-list creative auspices like Alan Ball and Frank Spotnitz. Hurt People marks the first pilot order at Cinemax, whose recent originals Strike Back and the upcoming Hunted and Banshee went straight to series. With Petersen on board, Hurt People could also become a strong international seller like Strike Back and the Melissa George-starrer Hunted. During his tenure on CSI, the crime drama was the most watched series on American television and ranked several times as No. 1 in the world, making Petersen a global TV star. On the feature side, Petersen will next be seen opposite Steve Carell and Keira Knightley in Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World. Peterson rules. There haven’t been many good hitman projects lately. Here’s hoping someone does a bad/good hitman film sometime soon too. Sorry, The Mechanic remake doesn’t count.
Look ,I love this actor but the premise behind this show is really inconceivable. I’m looking forward to seeing how they pull it off though.
My heartfelt congratulations…
Always Proud,
Future Staff Writer.
I’m a big William Petersen fan, can’t wait.
Peterson exudes taste & cool. Gil Grissom is 1 of the most interesting characters in TV history.
I hope this has a similar flavor to “To Live & Die In LA”.
Thought he left CSI to return to Chicago and theater–that didn’t last long, did it! Still missed on CSI–hasn’t been the same since he left, but a paid killer going after his own daughter?? Even that’s a bit far-fetched for a tv series, isn’t it? Who else is he going hunt? I guess that’s the series?
Can’t wait. I know it’s going to
Be great!!!!!!
Peter Mac is the stone cold tits!
What WONDERFUL News!!!!! At Last—Something Original To Look Forward To With An EXCEPTIONAL Actor!!!!
Noooooooooooo !!
Grissom is a good and nice man, definitely
I love this actor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fátima.
I love Petersen!! He’s a great actor!! Can’t wait to see him in this!
Let me get this straight –he’s a hitman who works for the criminals who killed his wife?
He’s either the dumbest guy on the face of the planet or, this is some kind of stupid dramedy where he’s grateful to them for sparing him an ugly divorce.
But next he has to hunt down his own daughter too?
Sounds totally idiotic. I’ll pass.
Yes, that’s the premise, but we don’t know the particulars.Does he know they killed his wife?If he does, is there a reason he’s working for them.Do they even know she was his wife?Has he infiltrated them?
Do they know she’s his daughter?Maybe he’s hunting her down before someone else gets to her.
It does say she’s his estranged daughter, so there connection may not even be known to her or the family.
Huge get for Cinemax. I was sort of expecting this one to go to the Audience Network (Network that saved Damages & Friday Night Lights) or Starz (They’ve been adding quality programming slowly but effectively). I’ll watch this when it comes out. Love a good hitman drama.
Only thing that concerns me is that it got just a pilot order from a network that has been dolling out the series orders. Though, I can still see this coming out in the winter of 2013.
Still though, it’s going to be great to see Petersen back on TV.
Strikes me as a kind of follow up to the film “The Professional”. We all know that girl was destined to grow up to be an assassin herself. Of course her father was killed as well as her mother.
William Petersen is classy and makes any project better.
Is this project dead?
