Attention, fanboys! Once again the earth is about to spin off its axis when comic worlds collide. I’ve confirmed that Warner Bros/DC Comics’ The Dark Knight Rises will debut its 3rd trailer when Marvel’s The Avengers opens on May 4th. “Yes, our 3rd trailer will be out with The Avengers,” a Warner Bros exec just told me. “We see this placement as a good strategic decision. We always want our trailers to be seen with films that people want to see — and a lot of people will be going to The Avengers!” The pairing was first teased by the Warner Bros Exhibitor website, and spotted by NolanFans.com. Both 2D and 3D conventional showings of The Avengers (as well as 2D and 3D IMAX showings) will be playing the TDKR trailer.
This isn’t the first time Warner Bros has placed a big DC Comics trailer in front of a Marvel movie. Back in 2008, the third trailer for The Dark Knight played before showings of Iron Man. (In 2010, interestingly, the final trailer for Christopher Nolan’s Inception played in front of Iron Man 2.) When I suggested that newly intensified DC vs Marvel rivalry might preclude this kind of trailer pairing, the studio exec explained, “It will provide the best potential exposure for TDKR. It’s a big positive for everyone!” And certainly a boon for Joss Whedon’s pic. After all, when TDKR‘s first major glimpse paired with Paramount’s Mission Impossible 4‘s release in late 2011, it goosed MI4‘s opening numbers. The only question now will be which movie makes more moolah: Batman 3 or The Avengers. I’m confident that
both could set new 3-day weekend numbers. So far The Dark Knight Rises, which opens July 20th, has released two official trailers — a teaser that focused on Commissioner Gordon (Gary Oldman), and a trailer that spotlighted the villainous Bane (Tom Hardy).

Smart decision and a win win for both studios because it will encourage people to go see The Avengers which has already had applause at several screenings.
The Avengers is going to be a massive hit with or without the trailer. It just makes the appetizer before the main course that much better.
The Avengers is going to be a huge hit at the box office.
Joss Whedon is a really great writer. This will open the door for him to do more projects for major studios. Whedon is about to become really famous.
Or even more famous. He’s already very famous in the world of TV and comics. Now he’s about to conquer the film world.
Whedon has been involved in film for YEARS! The original Buffy movie was TWO DECADES AGO! And let’s not forget he also wrote Toy Story.
I’m a fan of the Avengers but one of the reason that I’m watching the movie is because it’s a Joss Whedon film.
Warner Bros does it again, looking to repeat 2008, 2010.
You fandorks better be right or I’m suing!
There’s not much of a DC vs. Marvel rivalry when it comes to movies…. if anything, there’s more of a fanboy vs. snarkies when it comes to comic book movies.
What this person said…
The DC / Marvel rivalry is actually a pretty friendly one for th most part, built on mutual respect. Fans of either set are the ones who tend to make the most fuss.
As for breaking records, they both will, but I have a feeling that Avengers will have the “record breaking” edge internationally and TDKR the “domestic” edge. 2 good films earning over $1b each, if they ‘deserve’ it will do me.
In terms of comic book companies Marvel and DC have a fairly steady migration of talent back and forth between the two companies over the years.
Also you can’t love Jack Kirby without being well read in both Marvel and DC. The man built the best of both houses.
Most fanboys who have a strong affinity to one company still buy comics from the other.
NolanFans.com are a bunch of losers. I’m starting FinkeFans.com
Psssh. Both can co-exist together in harmony!
will it be with the avengers in the uk? because we get it april 26
I sure hope the third trailer is something special because the first two were totally underwhelming. If trailer no.3 is another damp squib, it’s going to hurt TDKR’s opening numbers. No doubt about it.
Nope. The first trailer was just a quick teaser trailer, and the second trailer was quite good. Nice try, though.
The second trailer for TDKR was boring, unexciting and didn’t even showcase the film’s hero who said nary a word. It also featured one of the worst CGI sequences I’ve ever seen in the implosion of the football field. While I’m sure the FX will be tweaked before the film is released, it was a mistake to release such shoddy work.
The Nolan films seem to be more about the villains than the Bat.
I have to laugh at all of the fanboys who take shots at Chris Nolan and his films. These small minded morons know nothing. Success is the name of the game and these little men should try to find a job at McD’s and begin their careers.
Nolan copied matrix for inception. Batman is nothing but slow paced drama. Just because he wrote drama films, it doesn’t mean his films are better. Every Nolan film got orchestra. Music, slow paced, psychopath. Nothing special. He borrowed lots of cinematography from martin scorescee. Inception dream scene with wife is almost similar to dream scene from shutter island
Voicing an opinion is a “try?”
FSM save us from hipster docuhebags.
This is actually very smart. It allows both properties to get their due. The more successful Comic Book films are, the more they make. Which is the ultimate goal of DC and Marvel. And, with good cooperation they may even consider a Marvel VS DC movie. Talk about a geekasm.
Iy’s a good idea, though truth be told I am pretty confident that you could put the “My Little Pony, The Movie” trailer before “The Avengers” and it would not only not effect Joss Whedon’s juggernaut, but it would give ‘Pony’ a much-desired bounce.
“A boon for Joss Whedon’s film”.
Because after all, “The Avengers” isn’t going to pull anyone in on its own.
C’mon now. If you said maybe Men In Black III or Battleship, I could understand. But this film? Riiight.
Is Avengers really as good as the critics are saying? When I read all these positive reviews and they get into the specifics of the film it sounds like a corny, bloated, tacky mess. And I have read a ton of reviews that say the “only flaw” of the movie is that the villain lacks motivation. That sounds like a really big flaw to me!
Go see the movie and find out for yourself , and stop trying to diss it before then . You must be one of those fanboys everyone is talking about .
Best thing Warners has done for Joss W. since NOT making his Wonder Woman theatrical script. That was a disaster that would have kept him off of any super hero movie project.
Joss can now go back to Warners and they will roll out the red carpet for him and beg him to make Wonder Woman exactly how he wants to. They will let him do whatever he wants to do with me.
Any idea if this is a US only announcement or if the trailer will bow with the European Avengers opening?
The trailer will probably debut in the U.S.
Well To tell u Guys the truth ! THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Will Be The one to Take The CROWN at the Box Office ,You’ll all see !!!!!!!
THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Is going to Be SO HUGE at the Box Office That The Avengers Are Going to Be Afraid To Make Another Sequel!!! Hahaha… the Movie Is Most Likely Passing TITANIC & Harry Potter For Sure!!
THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Is The Only SUPER HERO FILM To Ever Reach The BILLION DOLLAR MARK!!! NOT Even Iron Man The Movie Could Beat That or Thor Or Captain America or Even The Incredible Hulk!!! And All Those Super hero’s Are Joining Together For The Avengers ?? Not Even all Those Super Hero’s Together Are Going to Be Able To Beat BATMAN, I Tell You Guys That Much. They Might ,MIGHT beat The DARK KNIGHT But Not THE DARK KNIGHT RISES !!!! NOT EVEN CLOSE …… YES You’ll All SEE……………………………….
Christopher Nolan Is Going To Be The Next BIGGEST Director In History !!!! Not That Guy Joss…………. Chis Nolan Know How To Make A F**king Movie !! He’s The Best Of It !
Hope – seriously, what’s up with the overuse of capitals? Take a chill pill.
All of the Nolanites are scared to death of The Avengers. Personally, I hope both movies make a shit load of cash.
Why would they be scared? The movies come out two and a half months apart, it’s not like they’ll be affecting each others’ box office.
The Avengers has a chance to go over 1 billion because:
Ticket prices are higher. It has 3D. There are a tons of Joss Whedon fans. Early buzz is growing. It’s a positive movie. TDK had the perfect storm of good marketing and the buzz on the performance of the Joker. Everyone knows the joker. Not that many people know Bane.
The Avengers was four years in the making too, with the intro in Iron Man.
It has a chance to really make the dough for a couple of months until Spiderman comes out.
Both films should make a billion dollars, if one of them doesn’t do it I would be really surprised.
This is just like last year when we had 3 films gross a Billion bucks worldwide, this year should be Avengers, TDKR and the Hobbit should all have huge domestic and international boxoffice.
Honestly, I actually see Hobbit winning the foreign boxoffice battle if the film is good, LOTR is really huge around the world.
No one is asking the most curious question here: Doesn’t Warner Bros. “Dark Shadows” open up against Marvel’s “The Avengers”? Didn’t Warner Bros. invest $100+ into Tim Burton’s new pic? You’d think any major trailer like “The Dark Knight Rises” would only *help* “Dark Shadows” publicity at this point, considering WB really doesn’t seem to know what to do with it…it’s kind of funny and a bit tragic for Burton that they seem to be throwing this one out the side window…
