BREAKING: As Deadline revealed earlier today, F. Gary Gray is in final talks to helm Straight Outta Compton.
That’s the New Line project that traces the formation of seminal hip hop group NWA, which launched careers including Eazy E, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, MC Ren and DJ Yella. The group branded itself with volatile songs like Fuck tha Police and politically charges songs that reflected the growing ire of urban youth in the 1980s and set the tone for gangsta Los Angeles rap culture. The film was set up at New Line by Cube’s Cube Vision. Gray last directed Law Abiding Citizen, Be Cool and The Italian Job. He has also directed music videos for Ice Cube. Gray is repped by UTA and Principato-Young.

Bill Straus and David Engel have been working on this forever. Glad to see that this is finally taking shape. Very cool.
New era uprising – F*ck the Parking Cops on Sunset!
Which word will be spoken more – the F word or the N word?
He would have been my choice to helm the new Die Hard.
The perfect director needed to bring back the natural feel and theme of the franchise.
That guy directed cult classic “black” flick as “Friday” and “Set it off” and the amazing “The Negotiator”.
Can’t wait to see that
Sounds like a movie of the week. The script is terrible. Page one rewrite. F Gary Gray is a terrible Director. This will be lucky to be released n Fuse or BET.
JC you’re clearly an idiot…terrible director ?! Italian Job remake, Negotiator , Set it Off & Law Abiding Citizen are all solid films
Very cool news all around.
