BREAKING: Disney has paid mid-six figures for Ground Control To Major Tom, a romantic comedy by Butter scribe Jason Micallef that has Seth Gordon attached to direct. Butter producer Michael De Luca will produce this with Underground’s Josh McGuire and Trevor Engelson. Gordon will be exec producer. They are keeping the plot line under wraps, so it’s unclear how David Bowie will be referenced, since the title is a line from his classic song Space Oddity. Several studios chased the comedy. Gordon will next direct Identity Theft with Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman, with production starting Monday on the Universal comedy. WME and Underground brokered the deal.

I read this script this week. SOOOOO good. Jason Micallef is such a great writer, really smart new way into a rom com. Underground is on a roll
@biz – are you a manager over at Underground, or just an assistant?
script is good! give it a read Devdude.
I read this and it isnt funny. Terrible purchase. I guess Rich Ross was out the door and with noone running the studio a low level creative exec and a BA person dipped into the till. Unproven producers on a Disney movie. Exactly what they dont need at Disney right now. More firings to come thats for sure!
What if it’s really Touchstone? Unlikely, I know.
BUTTER stunk as well. It seemed interesting because of political allusions, but there was nothing about the script that would compel anyone to see it.
hate to rain on this parade, because i’m sure the script is good. However, it would not surprise if this project dies a quick death now that Rich Ross got canned. How far can Sean Bailey be behind? The new chairman (much like ross when he hired bailey) will undoubtedly bring in his own president of production.
Jason is the nicest person in the world and an amazing writer – congrats to him!
Anyone got a link to the script so we can read and judge for ourselves?
It’s a terrific script, but probably too quirky to work as a studio film. It’s a very indie-ish romance and a tough idea to market.
so what is it about, the script I mean?
