It has been a great few months for canine actors, with two pilots, Disney Channel’s Dog With A Blog and TNT’s Scent Of The Missing featuring dogs in starring roles. Now one of them, Dog With A Blog, has been picked up to series. The live-action family sitcom, created/executive produced by Michael B. Kaplan (Frasier), is told from the pet’s point-of-view. It centers on step-siblings whose parents get them a dog to encourage them to get along. The two do bond when they discover that the dog can talk AND blog. In the role of Stan, the talking talk with a blog, the series will introduce what the network is billing as “Disney Channel’s next big star”: a four year-old, Husky/Golden Retriever/Border Collie mix named Kuma rescued from a shelter and trained by Guin Dill and Steve Solomon of Good Dog Animals. “With our track record of discovering young talent who are ‘triple threats,’ we launched a nationwide search and our reward is that we found the one dog who could talk, blog and do his own stunts,” said Adam Bonnett, Disney Channel’s SVP, Original Programming. On the show, Kuma is joined by G. Hannelius (Good Luck Charlie), Blake Michael (Lemonade Mouth), Francesca Capaldi (A.N.T. Farm), Beth Littleford (I’m in the Band), Regan Burns (Wizards of Waverly Place) and Stephen Full (I’m in the Band) as the voice of Stan the dog. Production on the multi-camera series will begin in June for premiere in fall 2012.

New ‘Man Of Steel’ Television Spot #6

“On the internet, no one knows you’re a dog.”
This has instantly become my new favorite guilty pleasure.
I love seeing Disney dare to break the standard kid sitcom format that has been rehashed so many times over the last 5 years. This and the puppet show that they announced yesterday…great that they are trying different. This is why they’ve taken over the #1 spot from Nick, who just do the same Dan Schneider show over and over and over….
Nice job!
Both Beth & Regan Burns will have fun with this…the pilot was very cleverly done.
“The Peoples’ Choice” meet’s “Mr.Ed”
Here at Disney we let dogs make all the important decisions. Who do you think gave a green light to John Carter? Our smartest dog with his own computer and financial spreadsheet gave it a green light. We relied on Rover to give us good advice but he gave us bad advice. We sent him to Vietnam and he was served to some tourists from Argentina for dinner.
This and a thunderstorm in LA today. Maybe I should start to read up on Revelations.
Does Adam think the dog really talks? Clever.
@Ordinary Joe: have you ever watched Dan Schnieder’s TV shows on Nick? They are in a different league than Disney shows, and that is why Schnieder’s shows top the ratings and why Schnieder has 90 million dollars and gets Emmy noms every year. Schnieder’s shows are at a primetime level of writing. And how can you say they are all the same? All That, Zoey101, icarly, Josh and Drake, Victorious -all completely different. why pick on the producer who is making the highest quality shows on TV for kids + teens that parents can enjoy too? Seems strange that you pick on Schnider while praising a show about a ‘talking dog who blogs’
Stephen Full is a golden comedic god.
Michael Kaplan is a wonderful guy and a fantastic writer/producer/ showrunner. He’s one of the hardest working guys in the business. Looking forward to this next chapter in his successful career.
You don’t get it do you, Disney got #1 for the 1st time in years because nickelodeon was stupid not to realize that they’re targeting more on teens than kids I mean look at their show iCarly, Victorious, Big Time Rush, How to Rock in prime time. I like Disney because they are not scared to try something new once in a while. For example Jessie, usually Disney will do a sitcom based around a child or a tween, but this time it’s an adult whose playing the lead role who’s not playing a teenager. So nick really needs to level up their game and not follow Disney Channel’s old game with shows that are majority full of songs. Plus if you realize Dan Schneider’s show has that formula that you’ll realize when you watched his shows (which are wacky and mean) and the lead star is always the perfect person that you dream but not as interesting as the other supporting actors.
Really really funny. Stuff!
