How NBC’s Thursday night comedy block will change next season is still up in the air. But a piqued Alec Baldwin tweeted this morning: “I think I’m leaving NBC just in time.” The 30 Rock star, as Deadline reported earlier, has already “quietly re-upped” for another season if the series is brought back. Unless he’s heard that 30 Rock won’t be renewed. Hard to tell if Baldwin scooped news this morning because, over the last six 30 Rock seasons, he has threatened to leave the show, to leave acting, and to leave America for a myriad political and personal reasons. This time Baldwin is raging on Twitter because he tweeted that “a crew that identified themselves as being with The Today Show” showed up outside his NYC apartment and camped out along with the tabloid press. The cameras were there because Canadian actress Genevieve Sabourin was charged last week with allegedly stalking the actor.

I don’t blame him. He’s going to be stalked by the press…about being stalked. If NBC cancels “30 Rock” without giving it the ability to appropriately sign off it will be inexcusable. Genuinely novel, funny, and original in execution, we had never seen a sitcom like this before. Try to say the same about any other network series. As for Baldwin great actors are often complicated. A litany of cheap shots about his personal life doesn’t make him any less great.
Oh I don’t know…how about The Larry Sanders Show? Without that, 30 Rock wouldn’t even exist.
With no 30 Rock cutting into his time, Baldwin will be able to do ads for Capital Two along with Capital One.
If “30 Rock” gets axed, I will no longer give any NBC shows a chance. How would you like that to be your legacy? The moron that pulled the trigger on this television classic…hmm, not good karma.
30 Rock has had its day & been given more than a fair chance. It has terrible numbers. Most of America can’t connect with the self-consciously clever over the top written-sounding mostly unlikeable and unrelatable characters.
I saw the Today Show piece. My first thought was, “Why are they showing the world where Alec Baldwin lives?” I’m sure this woman isn’t the only weirdo stalker in his life. And it’s not like it’s a pressing news story. I would be pissed off if I were Alec.
Of course NBC would cancel such a great show like 30 Rock. Let’s face it – its one of their best show. They’re the same tools that Fd up a show like BENT but got behind a show like BFF. These people’s barometer is way off. Just try and sit through one episode of SMASH if you don’t believe me.
Okay, I laughed:
“…Because, over the last six 30 Rock seasons, (Baldwin) has threatened to leave the show, to leave acting, and to leave America for a myriad political and personal reasons…”
The show strangely pushes the racist envelope. I generally find the show funny, but when its rhythm or the jokes feels forced, it often veers into some jab at African Americans or plays Morgan for a dumb-dumb in the B story.
Perhaps he’s joining the cast of Anger Management? Seems appropriate.
30 Rock is a complete mess this season, and it is unfunny. The acting is forced, and all the actors on this show seem bored. It deserves to be canceled. I can only take Tina Fey’s annoying mannerisms in small doses. Alec Baldwin doesn’t deserve this massive media coverage, but he is one of the most insufferable actors in Hollyweird.
With all MAJOR respect to Tina Fey and Baldwin – it may be time guys. I’ve been a major fan of this show from the very start. The episodes have been “laugh at your television” funny. Can’t say that about many shows. This year I’m not sure what is going on with the writing. It’s either two brilliant episodes or one horrid one. I feel like we’re being punked. Fey is FAR to brilliant to allowed the episode that aired last week…. well air last week. It was terrible. I’ve never cringed while watching 30. But last week when Tracy Morgon though Liz Lemmon was his Dad or something. Sorry, WTF? But then brilliance: insider line: audio guys insert their v.o. If I were NBC I give this show ONE last season, but yank it by mid season if these antics continue and stunt cast the beotch (the show). Let’s face it, NBC needs to BRAND itself as QUALITY again. The network of ER, THE WEST WING, COSBY, these fantastic shows that drew big spender advertizer eyeballs. The current team in place can do it again. Hanging on to 30 is a smart move but creatively, they may need to be “noted” a bit more if renewed for one more season – something was REALLY off this year. Unless Fey was just messing with everyone to see what she could get through. She’s brilliant – after all of these years, she’s bound to have some clunker episodes. Baldwin, personal life drama aside, on screen – best role ever. NBC also needs to keep some very key players in the television business happy here. More series in the future from any of them and NBC would be lucky.
Order it again NBC – but – tighter leash Bob and team.
30 Rock has past it prime a long time ago, it’s painfully unfunny now, both Community and Parks & Recreation have been funnier for 3 years. Plus, 30 Rock has the weakest ratings, already has a syndication deal, what’s left? Not much, let it die.
