Entertainment One has teamed with the Estate of Marilyn Monroe to develop and produce Finding Marilyn, a competition reality series that will emulate Monroe’s journey to stardom by featuring twelve young girls as they travel to Los Angeles to compete for a chance to become the next Hollywood “it” girl. The series will be produced by eOne Television in association with the Estate of Marilyn Monroe whose rights are held by Authentic Brads Group. eOne’s John Morayniss, Rick De Oliveira and Tara Long will serve as executive producers, along with the Estate of Marilyn Monroe’s Jamie Salter and Joel Weinshanker. eOne will produce and distribute Finding Marilyn worldwide. No premiere date is announced but the project may be tied to the 50th anniversary of Monroe’s death in August.

Setting aside the jokes begging to be made about a competition show in which participants “emulate Marilyn Monroe’s journey” — Will there be multiple wedding tryouts? Tunnel races under the White House? Late-to-the-set match-ups? Overdose instructions? (Crap: Looks like I didn’t set them aside after all)– exactly how many failed Monroe-related efforts does it take for people to realize that the actress has virtually zero relevance to today’s audiences? That after the low-to-no turn-outs for efforts like MY WEEK WITH MARILYN and SMASH and others, Marilyn Monroe, while certainly a major pop-culture-history figure with an interesting life, is now a TCM fixation at best?
Sounds like a terrible idea.
Go straight (intended) to Bravo. But do not pass Go.
I just hope they have Faye Dunaway as a judge saying “Don’t call us, we’ll call you.”
Dear God.
I can’t think of anything more stupid or untimely. And with Smash barely squeaking by with miniscule ratings, what makes this show even remotely interesting? Good luck. DG
Dear Hollywood: Will you please stop with this irrational obsession with Marilyn Monroe. We really don’t get it.
Sincerely, The World.
Failed before it even starts. First there will never be another Marilyn. Second no young woman wants to start a career in films to become addicted to drugs, treated poorly, have multiple failed relationships/marriage and die tragically.
and now, even the dead are on reality television. what’s next? their cremated remains competing on unsurvivor? welcome to the absolute bottom.
