Universal’s romantic comedy The Five-Year Engagement starring Jason Segel and Emily Blunt opens Friday. The studio has released this restricted trailer that more clearly places it in the vein of producer Judd Apataw and director/co-writer Nicholas Stoller’s wheelhouse, something the previous, tamer trailer couldn’t convey.

Dear lord, what is the arrangement by which Hollywood continues to delude itself by deeming this Segal fellow anything more than an overhyped, no box-office, frat boy schmo?
Wait, wait. Yep, I’m sick of Judd Apatow movies.
Segel is the luckiest dude in Hollywood.
I can understand why some of the other goofballs in Apatow’s camp made it, but this guy ain’t funny, he ain’t pretty, and he definitely ain’t interesting enough to command 5 minutes let alone 90.
Segel is probably #3.
Title of Single Luckiest Dude in Hollywood is a back-and-forth between Danny McBride and Craig Mazin.
Yeah, McBride definitely tops that list…
nope. still looks dumb.
OK, that’s more like it. It sure as hell nails the 9-months-of-slush-and-3-months-of-mosquitos Ann Arbor stranding.
But to quote Woody Allen, when one of his characters in one of his later movies asks about Woody Allen, “….you mean like one of his earlier, funnier movies?”
That is not the premise of a movie, it’s the premise of a boring conversation. Trailer confirms this.
LOVED this movie! Better than Sarah Marshall (which was also great).
And Goony- if you’re sick of his movies go make your own so I can comment the same.
No wait. I’ll do it now. I’m sick of your movies.
Thanks for commenting, Jason. We (and the rest o’ America) are gonna pass though.
And Muppets sucked.
I saw this at tribecca on this week. It was fantastic. Formulaic but Funny, unexpected and moving. Recommended.
I saw it and it sucked. Not recommended
Why can’t they ever say “From Producer Judd Apatow”?
Sorry folks, but slapping Judd Apatow’s name on an extended skit that relies heavily on toilet humor shouldn’t be what it takes to get a financing deal.
Ugh. Guess what, Apatow gang–writing “vagina,” “masturbation” and “orgasm” into scripts doesn’t automatically make them funny. It’s the verbal equivalent of pratfalls.
And you’re likable, Jason, but I think you’re stepping into Seth Rogan overload territory. Make yourself scarce for a bit.
I like the cast and crew but this looks crazy boring.
Yeah, I hate to say it, I like the stars a lot, but this definitely seems to fall in the arena of half the Apatow movies–the ones that aren’t so funny.
Wow. This looks terrible!!
He was great in every phase of THE MUPPETS.
Are you kidding? Such a waste of a movie. This guy has please punch me in the face written all over him.
That is a terrible trailer – unfunny, leaden, pointless, predictable. Badly cut. The beats – all-important in comedy – are off. (For an example of an entirely successful recent trailer, check out ‘Ted’). Just totally uninteresting and unappealing. And I ENJOY Apatow movies.
Lamest writing and performances I’ve ever seen in a trailer. Can they stop the release somehow and do the world a favor?
Yeah, Emily Blunt deserves better.
Worst trailer in the history of the universe. Who would go see this shitty movie? Everything about it is stupid and repulsive.
