Current California Lieutenant Governor and longtime liberal talking head Gavin Newsom has landed his own show on Current TV. The former San Francisco mayor, who briefly ran for California governor in 2009, will host the weekly hourlong talker The Gavin Newsom Show beginning next month. The network said in making the announcement today that the show will have a California focus, interviewing “notables from Silicon Valley, Hollywood and beyond.” Former Forbes and CNN executive Mia Haugen will executive produce. “Gavin Newsom is a courageous leader who has boldly seized every opportunity to create positive social change,” Current TV chairman Al Gore said. “First as a successful entrepreneur, then in his role as Mayor of San Francisco, and now as Lieutenant Governor, Newsom touches many worlds — business, politics, entertainment and activism. We are honored that Current TV will be bringing his curiosity, intelligence, insights and enthusiasm to television.” Current is on the hunt for new voices after the abrupt and nasty departure of network linchpin Keith Olbermann in March. The anchor made good on his word to sue Current and its bosses Gore and Joel Hyatt, claiming breach of contract and that Gore and Hyatt undermined him and ignored his suggestions and concerns about the network. Current’s lineup now includes Eliot Spitzer, Cenk Uygur and Jennifer Granholm.

Alright! Finally a Current host to crow over! I wonder if this is to help boost his national profile before an inevitable Senate run down the line.
Who would have thought that there was a job more invisible than that of California’s Lientenant Governor? Gavin seems to have found it!
liberals! rabble rabble rabble…
Conservatives! rabble rabble rabble…
done.
Here’s an opportunity for Current TV to resolve its dispute with Keith Olbermann. Make Keith the goofy talk show host side kick for Gavin…Conan/Andy…Roots/Jimmy…Geoff/Craig…get it.
Zzzzzzzzz the should have picked up Joy Behar
great. another show I won’t watch. thanks for only reporting on what people in this business care about, Deadline.
I swear, I saw the picture before I’d read the fist part of the titleand thought, “Man, they got the actor that played Gob?!” Gotta admit, though, that Will Arnett would likely be much more interesting than Newsome, Olbermann, or just about anyone else.
Damn if he doesn’t look like Rick Santorum in that photo.
I hate Gavin. There is not a sense of any moral fiber in his being. This will continue Current TV’s downward spiral…
no one will watch this show
Oh yea… he is our Lieutenant Governor– I forgot.
A real ratings winner: unknown host, focusing on one state, on a network that many people don’t even know exists on their cable/sat system!
So I guess instead of comparing ratings to 60 Minutes or AC360, we can hope it beats digital ota ch 31-10 in L.A.
This has failure written all over it. Gavin has a very monotone delivery in his speach and I often would tune him out.
His legacy as mayor of SF is very mixed on many levels, not withstanding his personal transgressions in a dirty affair with his friend and campaign manager’s wife.
The city under his hand had and continues to have the worst homeless problem in the country.
He was once touted as a promising up and commer Dem candidate who would make a run for the White House someday. Never happened and never will happen, the man never lived up to his or others political expectations.
And speaking of “abrupt departures,” doesn’t Gavin have at least one of his own?
Jumping in front of a news camera for a sound bite is one thing. But doing five hour-long broadcasts a week is really a grind.
