EXCLUSIVE: Gerard Butler is in advanced negotiations to star in the action thriller Manhunt for Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher’s Double Feature Films. Breck Eisner is aboard to direct the film, which is set to begin production at year’s end. The plot involves a team of FBI agents sent to the North Carolina wilderness to chase the FBI’s most wanted man, domestic terrorist and survivalist James Tollan, who has eluded arrest with the support of the local population while attacking the federal government. They enroll the help of a reluctant bear hunter to capture the killer. But once the team enters the woods, the hunters become the hunted as Tollan will stop at nothing to survive and defend his territory. Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby wrote the script. Shamberg and Sher are producing with Alexander Milchan’s EMJAG Films, Danny DeVito and Jersey Films and Scott Lambert of Management 360′s producing arm FILM 360. Alan Siegel, Alexandra Milchan and Scott Lambert will executive produce. IM Global is fully financing the film.

Do the hunters or the terrorist have the pretty hair?
Of course – a “domestic terrorist”. How very PC.
Really? That’s the best you’ve got? First, Hollywood has been killing Arab terrorists for thirty fucking years. We know there are Arab terrorists, in fact, it’s become a storytelling cliche. People are tired of that shit, it’s old. Second, Hollywood has been killing European terrorists for thirty years, rogue Russian generals, sociopathic Frenchmen, German bad guys, yep, killed a whole passle full of them.
It’s old, it’s boring, it’s trite.
So, where do we go in storytelling? Hmmmm. Considering that home grown terrorists exist, and we haven’t seen may of them on screen, and militia and anti-government groups have exploded in numbers, it makes perfect sense to tell a story about a bad guy, who is American.
It’s timely, it’s true, it makes sense from a production standpoint, it makes sense from a storytelling standpoint because there will be others in the story surrounding the bad guy with conflicted loyalties. I know, it’s not a cartoon, that makes it hard for you to understand, but the world is a complicated place.
Isnt that pretty much the synopsis of Rambo
Is Eric Rudolph getting paid for his story?
Breck Eisner? Damn. Ted Kotcheff is more qualified.
I loved this the first time I saw it…when it was called RAMBO.
And I loved it the second time I saw it…when it was called THE HUNTED.
Ditto.
I was so ready to post how this is a rip-off of Rambo and The Hunted.
Get ready to enjoy it for the third time.
Reluctant bear Hunter?
Isn’t Butler contractually obligated to only appear in poor Rom-Coms now?
Is this the very same Gerry Butler who had a “hit” movie in “Machine Gun Preacher” ?
When it says the “local population” helps him, I hope it means “local animal population.” That sounds delightful!
How many movies is Butler going to attach himself to this week? I think this is the third…?
I hope they get Brian Dennehy for this one too!
Reluctant bear hunter? A black bear hunter in North Carolina? Oy vey, black bears in NC are small… 100 to 200 pounds… they are often hunted with dogs, treed and shot… it’s a pretty ugly “sport” and such a character will be unsympathetic. And if a black bear chases these guys around it will be hysterical… “throw a bag of hamburger buns at it!” It’ll be Woody and the lobster behind the fridge… We are not talking Grizzly Adams here…
Hey, why not a gator wrestler or a cougar hunter — or a snake charmer?
Or, how about doing the original Eric Rudolph story… sounds a bunch more interesting.
Good point — I’m from western NC and indeed the black bears here are small. And not particularly aggressive. “Bear hunters” are not larger than life who wear lion skin pelts and walk around with bowie knives between their teeth. They tend to be rednecks with a bunch of underfed dogs kept in squalid conditions.
So does EVERY leading male role go to a Brit/NZ’er/Australian now?
Note to Hollywood…Nobody and I mean Nobody thinks this guy is a star…Pls ship him back to Great Britain
with Robbie Williams, Cheryl Cole Et Al.
Well you know what they say about opinions and everybody has one..So here is mine.. I think he has great potential..evidently Hollywood can see it in him why else would he be given all those opportunities as an actor if he wasn’t Star potential .. and at least he unlike the majority of people coming into the U.S. to work .. Has learned to speak English, and really well for that matter.. Especially for someone that has such a thick Scottish accent..and in all fairness you got to give him that. One last note THE MAN IS EYE CANDY FROM GOD..AND EVERYBODY AND I MEAN EVERYBODY ..WILL AGREE WITH ME ON THAT.MOST WOMEN AS WELL AS SOME MEN..COULD CARE LESS IF HE COULD ACT..IT’S REALLY SIMPLE DARLIN ..IF YOU DON’T LIKE HIS MOVIES ..DON’T WATCH THEM.. God forbid you should loose sleep over it..with so many other Star’s in the sky..
We don’t want him back. You’ve made him what he is
And whose fault is Madonna? She became worse when we shipped her over to you with her fake British accent. You could have at least taught her some English manners.
It wasn’t called Rambo it was called First Blood. But if you remember it pretty well, you’re probably pretty old.
Reading these “Comments On Deadline” is much more entertaining than the movie will ever be.
