Those preliminary numbers we told you about Monday turned out to be true. ABC’s Good Morning America ended the 16-year winning streak of NBC’s Today in total viewers for the week of April 9, drawing 5.168 million viewers to Today‘s 5.137 million. The final numbers released today by Nielsen solidifies Today‘s first loss in the metric since December 1995. “It’s a special day for ABC News and, after a proper celebration 852 weeks in the making, we’ll get right back to work to be ready tomorrow to help GMA viewers start their day with a rewarding experience and big picture understanding of the world,” ABC News president Ben Sherwood said, adding a shout-out to the show’s NBC rival for its historic run. ABC said GMA is the only morning show this year to grow in total viewers and the adults 25-54 demo compared with last year. The week in question featured co-host Robin Roberts’ return from vacation and came a week after it saw gains with guest host Katie Couric.
