In addition to the better trailers for Universal’s summer tentpole Battleship, here’s some footage of the aliens in the film attacking a military base. Is it me or has the available footage graduated from a ‘WTF?’ reaction of the first and second trailer to, ‘This is a pretty cool global alien movie?’ Though I still don’t get what it has to do with the Hasbro board game.

So how many people who post here are salivating at the prospect of this one bombing? They got their wish with John Carter.
I’m actually looking forward to Battleship now. I agree that the trailers/commercials keep getting better. This is a global hit — clearly it’s not a movie made for most of the industry snobs who spend their spare time posting comments on this site (like me) but I think it’s going to be big at the box office.
There is no real brand name behind this title other than a pretty obscure board game, so it will not do gangbusters. I’m guessing it will barely make back its $300M+ investment (which includes marketing), with little to no extra to spare for reinvestment.
But the way Hollywood is backwards thinking now, that will STILL justify a sequel.
Is this some kind of exclusive footage reveal? Why partner with an outlet that is going to take your summer tentpole CGI footage and compress it down to 480×270? Maybe Universal should find someone other than E! to release footage through if this is the way they’re going to treat it.
What’s to see? Mechanical CGI thingies blowing crap up and people getting slaughtered. We get it.
“Is it me, or has the available footage graduated from a WTF? reaction of the first and second trailer to, this is a pretty cool global alien movie?”
It’s you.
Bay rehash, which is 2x the headache.
I agree. Plus, some of the CGI, particularly around the 10 second mark, looks downright amateurish/fake/silly.
I’m not among those that ‘want’ a movie to fail, but this does look like a silly movie that could go the way of John Carter. However, since it’s EXTREMELY – and I mean EXTREMELY – Transformer-esque, it very well may attract a much larger audience than John Carter (though that’s an easy feat).
It is just you, Mike; it doesn’t look pretty cool. I’m not the first to notice it looks like a low-rent Michael Bay flick (if that’s possible), a cross between PEARL HARBOR and TRANSFORMERS. Re Hasbro game: I’m guessing they are lobbing things at each other hoping to get a hit? A metaphor for the whole project, no doubt.
How is this not Transformers? It looks EXACTLY the same as the transformers movies. Shot exactly the same, same music, same aliens, same action. This is Transformers 4 and that’s what they want people to think.
not only does it look/feel like the worst of Transformers, but it SOUNDS exactly like Transformers which is the worst ripoff of all.
Yes, I think that was the point, unless you missed the “from the producers of TRANSFORMERS” card headlining all of the trailers. I’m positive they are hoping that at least the nimble-minded will get confused.
Transformers B-roll?
Except that Peter Berg isn’t Michael Bey… Berg is the real deal, just look at FNL, the movie or the pilot or the series, Very Bad Things, etc. His work as an actor is excellent across the board — he’s been a grip and a honey wagon driver — and now Berg is a filmmaker; he’s not an action clown… I have no idea where he’s going with Battleship but I can just about guarantee it’s gonna be cool. As for these compressed clips, buzz is buzz, half the world might watch this on an iPhone, WTFKs.
I agree with you on Berg. I’ve liked most of his movies (even Hancock had its moments). I really don’t want to see this, but it seems pretty clear that it’s what people want in the summer, so I’m just hoping Berg makes it slightly better than the Transformers movies. I’ll take “slightly”.
Based on everything I’ve ever seen or heard about the movie, I woudn’t bet my money on your “guarantee.” The other comments have valid points in that this movie is basically Transformers – it’s certainly playing to the same audience. Saying Berg has done some quality work in the past doesn’t mean this movie isn’t going to be a piece of shit that barely rises above Michael Bay’s retarded trilogy. Berg likely saw the opportunity to advance his career and he took it, good for him. The result? Guess we’ll just have to see which one of us is right.
Not only does it look like Transformers, it will include the ear splitting high volume level which crushes the senses.
Michael Bay clone for sure.
A spinning metal wheel is no match for the humans.
Transformers worked, this could too. And no, I have not been affiliated with Universal since Cheetah died.
Jeez. I’m exhausted just watching that clip. Yeah, I agree with the others that it’s just you Mike. Looks like Transformers 6.
And agreed. It is just you, Mike. For all aforementioned reasons.
bomb…bomb…BOMB.
Once Hollywood burns, we’ll get real movies again I promise.
Has Taylor Kitsch been digitally removed from this movie or does Universal’s marketing merely make it seem that way?
I really doubt it was a “uh-oh, John Carter bombed, let’s hide Kitsch” situation. Most people have no idea who the dude is, and the marketing would be silly to focus on humans anyway.
“Most people have no idea who the dude is…”
That much I agree with. He can thank the John Carter marketing team for that.
He was all over the talk shows for John Carter. If people don’t know him now, it’s because people don’t want to know him.
You can’t force people to take a shine to an actor they are completely uninterested in.
Why are you all so bitter?
Because sweet is so 30 seconds ago.
Y’know what, though? Pete Berg, for my money, is better at story than Mr. Bay cares to try to be. So I expect some real humor, some real drama, and some real fun…which is more than I can say to my reaction to the Transformer movies.
The question is WHY would you think this is good? That’s a machine, hardly an alien.
Maybe it will be good…berg makes great flicks
The shredders are actually large alien duplicates of those metallic golf balls they used in IBM Selectric typewriters that have all the letters printed on them and they spun around super fast to type the letters. Ah the good old days before computers were so prevalent. I miss my old Selectric typewriter. I also plan to miss this movie when it’s in theaters. I won’t pay to see it I’ll watch it on cable a year from now.
But it would give you such a good opportunity to reminisce about your old Selectric. Or scare the snot out of you and give you nightmares about your typewriter attacking you in your sleep. Either way, exciting times.
It’s not you Mike, it’s these cynical posters who would rather bring down a movie than actually give it a chance.
Please. We’ve already given it a chance. It was called Transformers 1, 2, and 3.
not bitter, wary…
Well *that* looks like dogshit. Boring, redundant, noisy, hollow. Probably make a fortune, though, just like BATTLE LOS ANGELES. Wait.
Peter Berg isn’t that good a director on film to make me believe that he’s made anything special here.
Someone along the way has made a conscious decision to market this to make it lool like a continuation of the Transformers franchise and if that’s what they are aiming for then that’s more than likely because that’s pretty much all there is too it.
The casting of the thing doesn’t help.
But I don’t think this will bomb either. Compared to John Carter, it can’t possibly do so that badly.
It’s also entirely legitimate to express a lack of interest in a film from the marketing since it’s job is to do just that. If it fails in that respect then that’s what happens. So no Mike, it’s probably not just you that thinks it’s gotten better looking.
But that doesn’t necessarily say as much as you seem to think it does.
I cannot think of a single piece of machinery in 2012 more obsolete or irrelevant than a battleship.
Well, the original movie was going to be Boomerang but the budget ended up being too small.
Oooh look. Pieces of metal smashing into other pieces of metal. Always a winner.
Another horrible noisy empty mess of a movie.
